The music at the start, which plays during the scene in which Thea becomes the Fendahl core, is really eerie, as is much of the story...the last gasp of Gothic horror before a marked change of style (though 'Stones of Blood' had Gothic elements near the beginning).

This is probably one of the grittiest Doctor Who's I've ever seen, as well as The Seeds of Doom.
