corny video, even the dudes are wearin lipstick, but,,,,,, who gives a fuck, awesome tune, awesome era!!! and c'mon didnt we all sport mullets at one time or another back then? lmfao! 80s kick ass.
ever pass someone going up, only to pass them on the way down, as well? i've never seen so many people in a video with the corniest looks on their faces! Jesus! but i still love it.
Love this song.. first time I seen the video its terrible robert hazard must not wanted a video cause he shown no emotion at all in it like he didn't want to be there no wonder it wasn't a bigger song he was terrible in the video!
LOL! I thought he was saying, "Hey girl, I'm a personal friend of EVANDER HOLYFIELD." I was looking at he lyrics, and I see now that it is "Gloria Vanderbilt!" XD
I ran into A.J Richetti not long ago who was the classic hard lead guitarist for his hard rock blues band theA.J.R EXPERIANCE. They were based out of Moorestown New jersey. He knew robert hazard and said early 80's and hazard perfect!
A few years ago, I sold Him a 1972 Mercedes Benz that reminded him of a car he had back then. I told him how much I love his music. He and his wife were quiet, but very nice and classy people. He is missed
@Dahby243... its simple really...... its about the obsession of rising to fame and fortune, the lust for materialistic happiness, only to find , having isn't as satisfying as wanting, falling eventually back to what you were predestined to be. How its a vicious cycle motivated by greed and competition, but at the end of the day, what you achieve materialistically has no bearing on your soul or character ... 'ALL EXITS FINAL' (4:17), We all live, We all die...no getting around the end game!
Loved Robert Hazard & the heroes, hated to see the split. This song was genius, great sound from a guy from the Philly area. He used to own a log cabin on the lake in medford lakes nj and even performed at the local high school. Great sound, agree with gwidener, liked the LP version better, but still ag reat song.
Just saw this on VH1 Classic and I've never laughed so hard at a music video before lmao just the whole thing is so ridiculous with the intense staring at the camera and the monotone "ESCALATOR OF LIIIIIFE" chorus hahahahahaha this is easily my new favorite video. "ESCALATOR OF LIIIFE" bahahahahaha thank you, Robert Hazard for making my night.
I love this song from Robert Hazard, I looked him up to see all about him and I was saddened to know hat he died in 2008, My sympathy to all of his family and friends.. God bless.
@gwidener7 I remember really liking the earlier EP version of this song. .. WMMR used to play it. I saw him with the heroes in west chester...they were awesome. Then he signed with a big label, ditched the heroes, and changed the sound of the song. I remember being disappointed when this came out. The video didn't help.
@dkempf1 - 'ZZO (or as my friends called them, "Sleazy-Ho") used to be a great Allentown, PA station - I could hunt around the dial and they would be the only station playing decent music in the northern Philly burbs - I'd say, "When all else fails, there's always WZZO!" They changed formats recently and they SUCK now.
@grandvisier - I grew up on WMMR, WMGK and WYSP - and am old enough to remember WIFI-92, which is now WXTU, a country station at 92.5 FM. Unfortunately, Philly just lost WYSP to sports talk, and now that TWO radio stations in Philly (98.1 and 101.1) are playing nothing but Christmas music (this is December 9, 2011 when I'm writing), there are only 2 or 3 decent stations left in Philly during Christmas season. WMMR, 95.7 Ben-FM and WMGK are all that's left.
@gwidener7 - WMMR was really good back in the day, but WMGK has gotten even better than WMMR ever was. (As I posted elsewhere here, I'm old enough to remember WIFI-92 as a rocker in the 1970s - all the good music in Philly was crammed between 92.5 and 94.1 back then)
@nicktaxidermy - MGK is about the last listenable station left in Philly. MMR has sucked for years (even before DeBella went to MGK), and YSP was even worse!
I actually now have more choices, now that I live near Hershey: 92.7 WKZF Lancaster; 96.1 WSOX York; 97.3 "The River" (WRVV) Harrisburg; 98.5 "The Peak" (WYCR) York; 100.1 WQIC Lebanon; 101.3 "The Rose" (WROZ) Lancaster; and 102.5 WRFI Reading.
I was back home recently, and the radio situation was SO bad that I put KYW on!
@AshburnStadium - I like classic rock as much as the next person, but the classic rock stations in Philly are playing the same cycle of songs from 30+ years ago. It's boring. How many times do I need to hear Freebird, Piano Man or (insert top 40 hit from 30+ years ago)? When's the last time you heard Uriah Heap's Lady In Black, or anything from Spirit, or Peter Green in Fleetwood Mac on one of those "classic rock" stations? Classic Rock? Yeah right, more like Classic Top 40.
would you hand over my eyeliner and Aquanet please......

This song should have been a #1 smash. The only stations that played it were non Top40. Like here in Boston it was WBCN & WZOU>

Sucks that even VH-1 Classic doesn't play music videos anymore. 3/4 of the bands I now love I first saw on that station!

This is AMAZING. Both the song and the video. Robert Hazard looks like a badass new wavey Leonard Cohen in a skinny tie.
Also, how can you not love the aristocrats in this video? They're mouthing the lyrics while riding on an escalator! That's fucking genius.
