I liked both performances of Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson as far as their dedication towards becoming the character of each film goes, but comparing them and judging 1 superior to or better than the other, is comparing apples and oranges.

There was only 2 things i liked about this movie. 1: i thought ray stevenson made a great punisher and 2: for some reason i really loved the cemetary scene where frank castle is sobbing at his parents graves it was basicly the only scene i liked in the movie. the movie itself in my opinion was horrible but ray stevensons performence as the punisher/Frank Castle basicly saved the whole movie from a real disappointment. great actor but bad movie. i thought thomas janes punisher was better.

Ray Stevenson IS Frank Castle. Dolph Lundgren? I love the guy, but he usually plays.....Dolph Lundgren. Except for Ivan Drago, who was Dolph with a heavy fake Russian accent. Thomas Jane isn't a bad actor, but his character wasn't the Punisher. Would the Punisher ever bother setting up elaborate scandalous blackmail schemes? Fuck no, he shoots first and asks questions later. If you were ever a fan of the comics, you'd recognize that Stevenson fits the mold.

In character, the Punisher would have never done something like the soap opera plan with saint's wife in the 2004 movie. real Punisher, if he knew the identity of his family's killer (something he never knows in comics), he would have done this ASAP:

- track down the bastard

-burst in the lair all guns blazing killing everyone there

- capture saint, then torture/kill him in the most painful way possible

I agree with you on the 2004 movie was not Punisher but it was better I find. It was loosely based on the Punisher comics which in this case was a good thing. Honestly, Punisher doesn't make for a good story, having this guy just going around killing bad guys all the time. I'm a fan of the comics but keep Punisher off the screens, it's garbage. Ray Stevenson gave the Punisher as much "flesh" as he could but that character is MUCH too limited and the movie suffers. 2004 was fleshed out more.
