  • To all bitching.

Most of the whales in captivity now a days were born there. They would not survive in the wild because they don't know how to and the chances of a pond accepting them would be very low. So it's good that they just stay there.

  • I miss Ike so much....stupid SW leaving Kiska alone and taking him back without giving MLC a chance to replace him....idoits

  • Ok I was watching a Darken Rahl video and this came up... yep I see a resemblance..=P

  • Orca's are the most beautiful animals i can imagine. and i hate those people wo make fun of them swimmin in those small tanks and doin unnatural thinks.. it's not fair, they have to be free! -.-

  • @crackandheroines they dont do any behaviors they wouldnt do in the wild.. unless its a ww behavior with a trainer

  • They treat these animals like circus clowns. They die prematurally in captivity and usually they are artificially inseminated. If twenty-years from now, they don't capture anymore from the wild, there won't be any captive orcas left. There is too small a gentic pool in captivity for them to be self-sustaining. Orcas should not be in captivity!!

  • some one gave it coffe X3

  • Positive changes have already occurred and attendance levels appear to be steadily

declining at those marine parks which still maintain cetaceans. Since 1990, at least 20

North American marine and amusement parks have permanently closed or

discontinued keeping cetaceans. Marine parks may have their defenders - but they have no reasonable defence. Jerye Mooney-WDCS

  • Marineland SUCKS. its literally the baddest facility to keep orcas besides MSQ. 5 orcas have died there in the past 6 years. They keep horrible care of their orcas and they even used to let thousands of little kids pet them. Without washing hands. They did nothing about the health of their orcas.

  • marineland rocks!

  • This is Athena =')

Unfortunatly she died in winter 2008 but we didn't know until may 2009.. Rip little Angel

  • Athena :)

  • I think that people shouldn't rush to release captive orcas. They are too dependent on human contact. Corky shouldn't bew realeased she has almost no teeth, compromising her ablity to hunt. Orcas are social and shun outsiders. Corky hasn't been seen by her family in over 30 years. Also Corky is a adoptive mother to at least 4 orcas. What would they do without her?

  • You're right. There's no way to stop the chain now that it has begun. It would be cruel to release any of the captive ones back into the wild. Keiko was the first, and we saw how that turned out, although I'm glad he died in the open ocean instead of in a tank. BUT they don't need to capture anymore. As for the wild ones that they rescue, it's nature. Let nature run it's F***ing course. I love Orcas and I'm tired of seeing them get treated like a commodity.

  • @MADEgurl06 Recent scientific studies have shown that orcas are well aware that they are orcas, and not pets for humans. Springer, the 18-month old orca that was returned to her family, quickly learned to stay away from boats and stay with her family. orcas would need to be "deprogrammed," but it can and has been done. keiko survived 7 months in the wild, so i would not say it was a total failer, and we learned a lot from him. although i cant see seaworld letting them go, we can hope

  • im sorry. but i just have to ask, what scientific studies are those? where can i find a report of it?

  • @mahjabeenadam

well the thing is, i have been studing orca(though no working with them directly) for the past 11 years. i have tons of stuff on them, including thousands of websites saved on my computer, (both pro and anti captivity), greenpeace reports, WWF reports, born free reports, books, seaworld statements, RSPCA and PETA stuff, dvds, tapes ect, zoo keeper forums, and i find out new stuff every day . i will look for the direct source you asked for but it might take a while. o.k.

  • ok thanks.

However, i have to mention that i do agree with the point you made. i agree a 100%.

Its just you mentioned scientific studies. and i couldn't resist asking that question.

i am against captivity because i wouldn't like to be put in a prison. so i feel sorry for anything that has to live in an aquarium or tank or has their freedom compromised in any other way. my feedom is the most important thing i have. and i can't think of any other animal who wouldn't feel the same!!!

  • ha wow i havnt really visited this page since i went to canada and took the video. think this is most comments ive ever got on a video i uploaded on here to show friends, i frogt it was even here :D still love athena!

  • take it out of the bloody take and put it back in the ocean.

  • Yes,let's do that. Then she'll freak out because she's never been in the wild before, chase little kids around like Keiko did, rip herself apart on ice floes because she doesn't know better, and die. Oh,and we'll be out $40 million. So let's 'put it back in the ocean'.

  • no they can train them how to do tricks and they also can train them how to survive the ocean trust me!!

  • As a staff member at MLC, I won't trust any random youtuber that seems to have no knowledge of this or training techniques. They train 'tricks' through a process that creates and relies upon a strong bond between trainer and animal, a bond that you therefore can't just break while simultaneously training them further about a life that we as humans barely understand.

  • so u seem to think u know wat ur saying and ur a random utuber! my aunts and uncles all worked with orcas and i was raised around them... i know a lot for my age

  • Working with the orcas of the park featured in the video above creates the affect of knowing what one is saying.

  • how old are u. because im 11 and i know just about every fact about the orcas wild and at seaworld california and ive been with them to.

  • And training for the wild has been attempted. The whale spent years leaving wild whales and returning to human contact all over the Atlantic Ocean. And the whale in this video was born in captivity, she doesn't even know what the wild is. And the last I heard, it had actually been made illegal to try releasing a captive born orca into the wild(but I haven't been able to confirm that yet)- it would just stress her out and confuse her as it did with Keiko.

  • no keiko was very ld and they did train keiko how to fend it's self in the wild u can train a whale to survive the wild

  • Keiko was very what? I hope you're not trying to say old, because he was 27. Male orcas can live until they're at least 50, so he wasn't old. I never denied that you can train a whale how to survive, but the fact remains that even in training you can't destroy the bond and desensitization to humans that captive orcas have-Keiko survived, and let kids ride on his back. He didn't want to be alone, regardless of his training.

  • mmm good point i stand some what corrected

  • Actually, while they can live to 50, the average lifespan of a wild male orca is 30. 50 is more the maximum than "at least". Female orcas live on average to around 50, and can live to 70. I'm not sure why there's such a big difference to their average ages.

  • Actually, the maximum is more like 60 for males and 90 for females...

  • not true, I suggest that you type in "killer whale and dog" into the youtube search engine and watch that video. Killer whales have been drawn to humans dating back to native american history. orcas are smart and friendly creatures, and while they are trained, they are naturally curious and playful. I suggest you watch and study more on wild killer whales as I have.

  • Do you just copy and paste that message into every ML video?

  • OMG i luv this vid! its so cute :)

  • which country is it? espana?

  • Canada

  • yeh that is her guys, she so cute!! i coulda just stayed there watching the whales all day!

  • aw wait whats her name ? She is just beautiful ! =)

  • The orca's name is Athena. :)

  • it is Athena the whale is acting just like she did, but i haven't met Ikaika, but i believe thats him in the background.

  • aww cute i think that is Athena
