  • Outstanding pocket playing.Don't stop playing for God.

  • @fantomnote that was brilliant man! I can tell that was your gift from God ; the way you put passion into your drumming is really good ; Tip : I wanna know how you do a double bass pedal sound with a single bass pedal because its quite fast! hope to see you do more videos ;)

  • @LilRudiie6839 - thanks man. Um.. about the double bass sound with a single pedal, I'm not able to do that yet but there's a video on youtube that shows you just that. Just type in, "Mike Johnston, double bass with one foot" Cheers! : )

  • how about in mixing?

  • @markdaveybabao - actually we didn't really do anything special about the sound mixing. In these videos, we used 4 regular SHURE (vocal) mic's and a "not so expensive" sound mixer. We just tweaked the sound mixer 'til we achieved a good sound. It's more like a trial and error thing. I guess the real credit goes to the sound of the kit itself. It's a maple kit, so it sounds good even without a state-of-the-art recording equipment.

  • nice drum tune bro..give me some tips on how you tune the kit..tnx..God bless!

  • @markdaveybabao - thanks. I don't think there's an exact rule in tuning drums. You just have to learn the basics and experiment from there. It really depends on how you want your drums to sound and it also depends on the kind of music you play. Personally, I like my toms to sound fuller / rounder, so I tune the batter heads and the bottom heads at pretty much the same tension and I don't use tapes, foams and other muffling devices on my toms and snare. But I do use pillows on my bass drum.

  • I love this song and the cover, it gives you freat vibes, bringing it to youtube was a great thing and I wish you nothing but the best in Gods glory!

  • @StuntMcUtters101 - Thanks! I appreciate it. God bless you!

  • galing!

  • Dios te bendiga mucho mi hermano!!!! exelente trabajo!!! o y me gusta tu bateria>> jejejejejej!!! Feliz Navidad.

    Desde texas un saludote!!!

  • @ricardolambis - I'm sorry, I don't speak spanish. But I do understand "Feliz Navidad." And for that, I say muchas gracias and Merry Christmas to you as well. Godbless!

  • Excellent drumming brother! This has been very helpful for me in learning Lakewood's version of an all time News Boys classic. One thing missing is that iconic double high-hat and I'm going to work that in. We do this and a ton of other Lakewood songs. I'm singing lead vocals on this one...not too easy! My wife (along with the Pastor's wife) and I do all the worship right now...I play drums over the CD or mp3 and sing lead where I can...until we can get a full band together again! Be blessed!

  • @grafixrj - thanks for the comment. Hope to see your videos soon. Godbless!

  • @fantomnote Yeah, me too...once I can get this cheap (PC only) digital camera to work on my Mac G4 at home. How long you been playing? I've been playing since I was 14 and just turned 51...and i've been the only Praise and Worship drummer at our church since 1986. I have a Roland TD-6 kit with the older PD-21 pads and CY-12's for cymbals. Home I have a custom blue Vistalite kit, five rotos (6-14"), custom 13" Visti snare, floating 16" Visti floor, and 7 Zildjian cymbals! Both with double kicks!

  • @grafixrj - I started playing drums when I was about 16. I'm 36 now, so it's also been a while. I'm pretty much a self-taught drummer that's why you may notice some flaws in my drumming. I own a 6 pc Gretsch Catalina Maple drumkit. I also use zildjian cymbals: 16" avedis thin crash, 21" avedis medium ride, 8" A custom splash and 13" K custom hats. My bass drum pedal is a DW 5000 accelerator single pedal.

  • @fantomnote Yeah me too! I played snare in Denbigh High School Patriot marching band in 1974-1977, but I'm self taught too as far as the drum kit is concerned, but I've learned more with the help of the Holy Spirit and His anointing with all my praise & worship drumming! Yesterday we did 3 Lakewood songs "Lord You are Good", "Free for All" and "All About You" which I managed to film on my cheap digi cam. As my wife Ursula says "Be blessed with heaven's best, and don't settle for nothing less!"

  • @grafixrj - Amen to that... I'm looking forward to watching your video. I hope you can post it here on youtube. Godbless!

  • thanks man! : )

  • hey man ! what do you use ? an interface ? and how do you get it to sound so nice...? i use a focusrite interface, and put it on garageband...but for some reason, it comes out really loud...! help me ?

  • Actually, I didn't really use any high-tech gadgets when we made this video. I don't know much about the technical stuff in recording so I just had a friend help me out with the simple set-up.

We just used an ordinary (not so expensive) sound mixer, put four vocal mic's on the drums and tweaked the sound mixing 'til the drums sounded good. We also connected the mp3 player, the headphones and the video cam directly to the sound mixer to give it a clean sound. Hope this somehow helps!

  • @fantomnote deff helps ! thank you :)

  • Hataw! kuya galing mo!

  • Thanks!

  • Nice!

  • your drumset and the cymbals sound great! And good job with the song. You really nailed it!

  • thanks! My drumkit is Catalina Maple by Gretsch. I'm pretty sure it's gonna sound even better once I replace my bass and tom heads with Remo Drumheads. As for my drumming, it's all by the Grace of God.
