The more I hear this band & Katie's voice, the more I like them.

Some other singers are (for me) more emotionally evocative & touch the heart more (e.g. Hope Sandoval). Still, there's something emotive, powerful,& appealing in Katie's voice & music, & so much atmosphere. In these ways, there seem to be similarities with Siouxsie & the Banshees,a band Katie cites as an influence.As electronic music goes, Austra's music seems much deeper & inspired than, say, the ho-hum-ness of an Avicii.

@guyfromnewcast1e I know what you mean. If you listen to interviews with Katie Stelmanis she does think highly if herself but I think calling them a pretentious bunch is a BIT excessive because the bassist and backing singers are really nice, I met them at SxSW last year.

I didn't see it as pretentious, just seems like they're all kind of in their own world a bit, dancing to their own groove and really feeling it. It added a lot to the song for me.
