  • @thezob101 Thanks!

  • Ahhhh Boards of Canada

  • @TheStealthDj Up vote this!

  • wow you're a real wiz. I wish I understood all that! :)

  • @maxpolaris99 I love the command line :) Most of this stuff can be done from the GUI as well.

  • @omgitsmit me too, I do most stuff using the cli. Bash.

    find / -type f -iname "*anypattern*mp3" -exec mpg123 -C {} \;

better than Amarok Banshee or Clementine LOL!

  • i really like your music!!!

  • @fabmkk Thanks man! More to come!

  • alot of companies use ubuntu as server,,, its as effective as debian ... wikipedia uses ubuntu in all its servers

  • Ubuntu is a nice distribution for a beginner- Home- PC. For a server i use Debian or CentOS.

  • @spamferkel CentOS is a more corporate server. That's the reason i went with a Debian (Ubuntu) home server.

  • Wow, those cats are loooooooooooooong!

  • CentOS is a perfect Linux Server

  • @neolexington ANY linux server is the perfect server :D

  • I wonder if you could have picked a worse song. :<<

  • @Foaman if you're here for music you're in the wrong place bud. this is a linux video!

  • Lol i have 3 CD-RW's with 3 diffrent OS Lol

  • To the people viewing this video: Instead of using plain TorrentFlux, use TorrentFlux B4RT, it offers much more features than the original. Such features include direct downloading, ajax updating, and server bandwidth monitoring (monthly, weekly, daily, and total) and it also tends to look better. Be warned however that it does not come as a package from the Ubuntu repos, so it may be advisable to download the original TF to get some of the binaries downloaded, then you can do the rest manually.

  • @mrkesik2008 Excellent advice! I'll install that version of TF on the next Perfect Server vid! Thanks!

  • Man you know your stuff how long have you been doing this.

  • @Datatekpc Thanks :) Been really busy with my career as of late, but i plan on releasing a couple short videos in the next couple weeks if time permits. Thanks for subscribing!

  • Nice i got my shiz all up and running but you should make a new one for 9.10 and a lil slowerr

  • @XxMEVANSxX Yeah i'm working on a 9.10 server. You can check the Hak5 forums for my progress. I started taking requests from users on what they think the "perfect server" would have. Got some interesting things in the next Perfect Server video!

  • @omgitsmit

What about the new 10.4 version? - i am going to build a core i3 setup to use as a NAS, and have no experience with linux at all. Would be nice if you have any tips on how to set it up, as i have read some packages are missing, and must be installed manually - yikes. Being only used to Windows sure dosen't help much..

  • @Anima87 These steps should work with 10.4 just fine. Planning on a 10.4 video including a lot more things. If you want to contribute to what you would like to see, either comment here or follow the post on the hak5 forums!

  • @omgitsmit

It would be nice if you could show how to get all the things on a Linux server to work, so that it has the same features like a high end NAS from Synology or QNAP (FTP, Torrent, Wake on lan, Remote control, and file, web and print server) allthough you seem to cover most of it. I know i may be way out of limits, but if you can just make some ok explanations, then i would be more than happy.

If it's ok, i may ask some noob questions once i get it built and join your hak5 forum..!

  • Thank you so much, GREAT help! Hope this still works on 9.10. Pretty sure it does... right? :D

  • @Rellix999 Of course it does :) I plan on making a new 9.10 Perfect Server via user requests on the Hak5 forums. Stay tuned!

  • @omgitsmit

Awesome! I followed your tutorial and am running a perfect server now! Works like a charm, Thank you!! (This was on Ubuntu Server 9.10).

  • damm dude pretty kick ass i nedd to install torrent flux

  • I <3 Torrentflux :) That was the first thing that really made me sit back and go "hm, i wonder what else i could put onto a server for downloading purposes".

  • What is the best server software in your opinion? And what is the easyest to get up running? I want to make a video streaming server like youtube... what server operating system whould be best and easyest to handle?

  • I've never made a dedicated streaming server with linux before, so i wouldn't know. If you've never used linux before, i would suggest anything debian based (Linux Mint 8 is pretty good) because it's easy to learn.

  • Thanks for your info!
