  • I prefer low-def lol.

  • The way digital TV is explained to someone who does not know the technical details (the average viewer) is always the same: a lie.

The digital picture is not "cleaner and more colorful" (0:11) in fact there are compression artefacts everywhere and the saturation of colors is not related with the type of transmission. The only true thing is that there are more channels but it's to be decided if that's an advantage. A big disadvantage is the behavior in bad reception situations (unwatchable).

  • we are now being forced to switch over to dtv in the bahamas i thought only americans had to do this and we're not getting any damn coupons this sucks man

  • If they would have simply tested the digital antenna in a wind tunnel at 5 mph, they would have abandoned this stupid proposal for the digital conversion after they realized that most of signal remains 98% scrambled. I think anybody who gets a Nelson's T.V. rating guide, should record the number of times they lose signal. Let the networks fix the signal strength problem when it hits them in the pocketbook with lost ratings.

  • 0:17 OMFG he actually plays wiv his thingy!!

  • So far I had to buy a new antenna for DTV and new cable wire and tried to different cable boxes, I do get so channels like ch 11 and 13, but the rest are so poor and have to keep scanning the converter box , this system really sucks and I will have to purchase cable tv very soon, Why did they do this in the first place? is the cable company behind this?

  • new boxes will have RFID type 'traceable' technology thus making it easier for the TV liscencing people get onto u if u not paying ur liscence.. there are also spiritual 'dampners' that are now more efficient in the digital form ...as with plasma tv's...but i doubt most people will beleive that...depends on how awake they are

  • shit won't work for us so fuck t.v.

the shit sucks anyway. I gotta work overtime like crazy with this shitty economy anyways

  • LicentiousSlut

I have cox cable but they were saying in this ad that you get more channels with the digital converter box. I was wondering if it was worth canceling my cable service and just getting a box for 4 of my T.V.s

  • I bought a quadro tv today

and i just cant get the digital antena to work

I mean when i try to use it it like "laggs" and the sound dissapaears and there are black boxes

  • LicentiousSlut

If you have VH1 and E! that means you have cable and didn't have to buy the little converter box right? The reason I ask is because the media said if you bought the converter box you would get more channels if you were not hooked up to cable.

  • They say there are still about 3 million people who aren't ready for the transition.... so while watching basic cable channels for the 1st few months after the transition I should expect to see less commercials for retard helmets and the video professor.... hopefully

  • as of now, while surfing through my measly 26 rescanned channels, i nocticed some of my uhf channels are still broadcasting in analog. does this mean they are not complying with the law?

  • This switch is SCAM. Who gives a shit if you have digital? That's your'e problem! This is a money ploy by the TV companies and cable providers to force people to pay more for what is suppose to be free tv. And then the democrats and republicans that are supposed to be working for Americans just take those bribes to let this be.

  • june 13 tomorrow

  • I think this change from analog to digital television is a

waste of time. Analog is fine as it is and this changes is

confusing lots of people. Its a joke.

  • Its all about money my friend. Think about it who gives a damn if you have digital? Congress for the right money

  • Today !

  • The range of the DTV signal is miles less than an analog signal. This is progress? Just one more way to force people into getting cable/satellite

  • yeah u fuckers are late.

  • think bout it were technically being forced to "wast money" to watch televison. and by that happening more hooked on tv. keeping us dumb.

  • Nothing anyone can do about if there is an Illuminati conspiracy, so don't ramble about it. :D

  • u got a point. but still im leting it be known to the people still in the dark

  • with dtv the government controlls what we watch more easily. the only reason why they pushed back the date of transition is so we would go out and buy more and more converters. people open your eyes.

  • i think with the new digital they can tune in whenever they need to for emergencies on every channel they are up to something...that damn commercial gave me a slight headache...and i thought about this govt cupons i dont know sounds kinda fishy yeah big brother is up to somthing.

  • Dude! Digital TV is great if you have the right antenna for indoor use. If you are using a coat hanger for an antenna then yes, it is bad. Try an MECS flat panel antenna for $29.95. You not only will get great pictures after June, you will get several sub channels from each station. Just take a look at my video. Of course each antenna has a hidden mind control device in it. Watch my video and join us.

  • Why more people don't disagree with this is beyond me. I am vehemently against passing a LAW that REQUIRES change like this. And it does seem pretty Big Brother-esque. And don't tell me I'm complaining about nothing because some people have done that.

  • Will Comcast and Verizon be redoing their channels now that next Tuesday, not tomorrow, but Tuesday next week is the date that digital transmission must begin?

  • I heard that the transission has been pushed back because so many people aren't ready for it. Is this true?

  • People say that with the new Digital tv transitions.. it will be easier for the government to watch us and track us? Sounds silly and what are people talking about..

  • Pffft, who cares. I threw my television away years ago...no biggie.

  • My first TVs were HDTVs.

  • Yes!!!!!!! 24 more days

  • i think its all in the plan of the government having more control over people and to keep tabs on people. cause digital is easier to track than analog and to hack through.

  • All the talk about possibly delaying the transition is ridiculous. No matter what, there will always be people who are not ready for this transition. We Americans just love to procrastinate. We've plenty of notice about this change, and the actual changeover has been in discussion for years now. I had heard about the coupon program more than 6 months ago, applied quickly and got my converter boxes quickly. If they delay because people aren't ready, they'll have to keep on delaying it.

  • dis change is on my birthday

  • happy birthday

  • happy Biiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrthday !wooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooo !yeeeeyyyyeeeyyyeeee!

    to ya!

  • Let's have TV PARTY !

    /watch?v=hFF7jzVfSB0

  • there is some thing wrong here wake up guys this is not just to make it clear for us this is the brain training they use to talk about in the 70's

  • GET RID OF YOUR CABLE COMPANY!!! You have seen it all! Really think about it...YOU HAVE SEEN IT ALL. And stop having your TV be a babysitter for your kid...you are training him to be dependant on that TV for comfort...

  • so my hd plasma will now be in higher resolution ?

  • Most retailers have sold televsions with Digital tuners built into them for the last 18months. If you have a newer TV you should be fine!

If this is the case, technically a paperclip will pick up digital signal or you can buy an antenna.

In short, you will not need a DTV converter box with a newer(ish) television...Tell me your model number and when you bought it, and I'll let you know what you need..

    Troy Knight

    Magnolia Home Theater Supervisior

    Best Buy, Austin TX.

  • hoooold on. if i have a new lcd tv does this mean i stil need the antennas eventhough i have cabal?

  • do we still need an antenna. or the the newer tv's have it? cause i don't see shit on my new TV.

  • You'll still need an antenna. And depending on your area, you might need a more powerful antenna, even a rooftop antenna.

Most, if not all, newer TVs have digital tuners inside them, so you won't need to also get a digital converter box.

  • True, but you won't get channels like CNN or VH1 unless you have an HD cable box from Verizon or Comcast, you could also have Satellite TV.

  • I could do without cable. I know some people can't "live without" cable, but I've gone without it for almost 20 years and don't miss it. I remember when I had it, and even when I go to friends' houses with cable, I'm just flipping through more channels in search of something to watch. Now, there's just more channels with nothing on to flip through. I personally just don't find it worth the monthly cost.

  • Digital tV if fine in itself but when it is broadcasted though and received an antenna you get drop outs (like a skipping cd). That will be VERY annoying for most viewers. With analog transmition the picture just gets a little fuzzy but is still very watchable. Most poor people will probabaly not have tv because the signal will be too weak in some areas and there will be lots of signal dropouts even with a good anttena with amplifier boosters. I have already witnessed this. No more TV for me.

  • fuck tv, i throw it away like 2 years ago,,, Internet rules!!!

  • Boo! Now I can only use my new cell phone with built in analog tv for 4 months, then I'll have to carry around a digital converter box everywhere I go! BS!

  • how do we know 2012 is a bad year. what if its just a big ERROR like the Y2K

  • WE NEED TO WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • enjoy life while you still can my people

for war is coming in 2012 an Alien signal or warning will be broadcast in 2009 and are gov just dosnt want us to see it .

They Live the NWO is tring to brain wash us

  • how do u know this?

  • Theres a Big change coming indeed

    2012

  • maybe they are aware of an Alien signal or warning that will be broadcast and they just dont want us to see it . I have a 19 inch color TV that im going to keep rabit ears on just incase , I suggest you all do the same thing.I know theres another reason for this big switch,I guess only time will tell what that reason was, because theres no damn way our Government would make it a law to switch to digital just because its a " Better Picture" if you believe that, you're a fool!

  • THEY LIVE

The NWO is trying to brain wash us god help us

  • well if 2012 comes along and Aliens start to take are children to underground bases and if this shit has somthing to do with the gov im gonna go Duke Nukem on there ass

  • The Truth

The reason the gov is having every one change to Digital is because somthing big is going to happen they want to keep there reptilian form a secret

    Watch the moive "They Live"

2012 is almost here they now somthing we dont and they dont want us to see

  • It's odd that they are making this transition mandatory =3

  • We know all about the USA will terminate its analogue signal and begin broadcasting exclusively in digital next year and Canada on August 31, 2011. Analogue TVs must be switched off in the UK in 2012, Ukraine and the Philippines in 2015.

  • The digital transition is not, I think, a case for Mulder and Scully. It started with us trying to catch up to the Japanese (NHK developed the MUSE Hi-Vision analog HD system in the 1980s and had regular HD broadcasts in the early 1990s). Work began in the US on HDTV in 1987, with the Grand Alliance formed in 1993 from competing TV industry systems to develop a single, digital system. Standards were agreed, then published and adopted by the FCC in 1997.

  • The first digital broadcasts went out on October 29, 1998 (specifically the return of John Glenn to space aboard the space shuttle Discovery), and the plan was set in place to end analog TV on December 31, 2006. However, as take-up was very slow all around, the deadline was extended to 2009, and tuners required to be put into new TVs.

  • The Internet is like a megaphone for idiots. There are always as many as there ever were, only now we can hear them.

  • Maybe its HAARP , or maybe they are aware of an Alien signal or warning that will be broadcast and they just dont want us to see it .

  • How simple minded can you people be? Have you seen the commercial about switching to digital TV? it says " ALL TV SIGNALS WILL SWITCH TO DIGITAL , BECAUSE " ITS BETTER" AND " ITS THE LAW.. why the hell would our government make a LAW to switch to another medium like digital, simply because its a better picture ?? Give me a damned break! There is something bigger to this whole switch to digital thing, much much bigger and you fools better wake up before its too late.!!!

  • it uses 8-VSB modulation. the radio waves sent out of the transmitter are still analog waveform. LOL . you don't need a new antenna. get a VHF/UHF antenna and you will be safe for Feb 2009.

  • the thing about this is, it is being forced on us without us fighting. tell us we need to have this or else, the immigration situation is the reason we are going to welcome the rfid implanted with global positioning.... wow!! did i just say that?

  • we have in our very near futures the opportunity to see the real i.d (rfid) the handing over of power through government, a new face in politics, and this scam/ conspiracy digital box crap, needed to control what we see as people. it is very demonic and scary as all hell.. God please help us

  • this is wrong on so many different levels of secrecy. we know that we are being forced into the nwo. look up blue beam project. things are moving rapidly these days. and even though the truth is in our faces, we wont even see it coming

  • man...i miss the 90's

  • dude, something smells fishy as hell. When have you herd the government being involved in our entertainment like this. Why would they care and make it mandatory just to watch a lil t.v. I personally won't get it cuz I can watch t.v shows and movies on the net.( 4 Now)

  • ummm ever since they created the FCC way back in... oh idk, the mid 30's!

  • we will be forced to buy digital webcams that connect to our internet lol. Or restric our internet use, like give us a 2 hour a day limit to use the internet. :(

  • There is something terribly wrong here.

  • I suspect it's also important to rule out any pirate or privately broadcast media from reaching the American people in the future. 1984.

  • Television is slavery.Please read a book

  • DTV cheerleaders dont tell you that in order to receive DTV signals, your antenna must not only capture, but hold the signal. Folks using standard rabbit ears 25-35 miles from the tower receiving weak, but watchable analog today will be shocked and disappointed come 2-17-09.

  • ummm most stations aren't broadcasting at full power yet Einstein. they aren't requiered to do so until Feb. 17

  • Sheeple wake up!! Switching to digital will be dangerous. With digital you can easily implant faces, pictures etc..through a "live broadcast". In other words the stations will be able to change actual events as they happen and you will not know unless you are standing there to witness it yourself. But, your witness will be in vain because no 1 watching tv will believe what you saw. The tv will say differently. Why the rush? hmm.

  • well thats it kids, no more free tv and forced, yes i said FORCED to BUY a fucking converter box which really is a mind control device or some type of domestic espionage. privacy is no more. thanks mr. bush, thanks patriot act. thanks 9/11. thanks digital tv.

  • i got my box with the coupon 2 months ago. First of all, i wanna say even though analog is all snowy, Analog BLOWS digital out of the water when it comes to reception. With digital i only get 1 station and it breaks up into squares. with analog i get over 15. In other words, unless you live across the street from the station your not gonna pick up anything. eimac is right.

  • I will not pay for the government just to be able to watch their controlled media.

    AND FUCK FOX NEWS VIEWERS!

  • George Orwell warned us on how a nation could easily go totalitarian, and this new digital tv converter too. In George Orwells book 1984 he describes this as the TELESCREEN, where the government gets their message out to the people through it.

  • byrant16319 I couldnt agree with you more, but people thing we're crazy.

  • Just another scam. I've always considered myself bleeding edge with tech but I'll sit this out. Reason: CONTENT. The reason why the internet, downloading etc has been KILLING television is because the shows suck, they're in no way edgy. Why would anyone bother upgrading just to see dopey, pretty actors in high-def? My digital set will continue to be used for gaming, pc and movies.

  • DTV IS NOT A HEADACHE!!

  • Not for you

  • DTV is bullshit. For one, if the stations tower is not in your back yard, your gonna need a bad ass outdoor tv and preamp. Chances are if you do that, the analog signal would be crystal clear anyways.

Even if you do manage to get enough signal into your converter box, the MPEG compression looks like crap. Ive seen better quality on you-tube videos. Theres compression artifacts and smeared colors.

DTV is a big headache for every rural TV watcher. Most will be screwed.

  • I'm Getting an LG 26" (2008 Year) LCD SCREEN!! Is that screen good!?!

  • FINALLY! Someone knows the truth! Since when does the government care abotu broadcasting? The government is ONLY having this conversion SO THEY CAN BRAINWASH AMERICANS! The government is sinking veyr low...they want to brainwash us so they can control us! Did you know this conversion's going ro Russia? WE'RE ACTUALLY TRYING TO BRAINWASH ANOTHER NATION TOO! The absolute truth is that our government is hardly different from Communist China's!

  • Sorry, I hit post comment too soon lol. Our government is only different from China's in the fact that we don't get tortured, nor do we have Communsit rule. (to tell you the truth, I can't say that the last difference is all that true) Bottom line, this is a government brainwashing scam, and nothing but a brainwashing scam! When February comes, I can tell ya, I ain't watchin TV anymore...

  • DO YOU THINK the government cares SO dearly about our television watching experience that they would go out of their way to put an end to this low-tech "analog" signal and replace it with the much superior, super cool "digital" signal, all for the sake of watching tv???.. open your eyes PEOPLE!!.. its media manipulation at its best.. believe it or not i dont give a shit, but its the damn truth!!!

  • XK: High five on what you said. Since when has the government gave a rats ass about "our tv experience"? This HDTV shit started wiith Bill Clinton and pushed through by this admin. Now,they did not read the terrorist threat level, but they read the HDTV program bill? They gotta be joking right? Wrong! This is how they will manipulate they American public. With the click of a mouse they will be able to insert any live picture of you robbing a 7-11, or shooting a politician. No more Oswald effx.

  • Why do I think this is a step towards Big Brother?

  • the government is the face of evil so for those who trust them well later you'll see the signs that we are being mentally manipulated wake up people wake up.

  • dtv-hdtv(dot)com - Digital TV discussion forum for US viewers.

  • and yes pocket televisions will probably be useless unless you wanna walk around holding a big box

    unlikely

  • there is good things about the switch you guys arent realizing.

Better Reception, MORE channels, and now you dont need to give all your money to comcast for there services.

Analog Cable (cable being recieved without a Cable box) is going to be shut off in 2012 anyways.

Television is all crap today anyway. They took all the good stuff off.

  • yeah. My cable provider already went digital.

And yeah the world will end in 2012.

  • There is a HIDDEN agenda to this... you have been warned.

  • This is just another step towards filtered information and control.

  • Ur exactly right. LOOK up - 'Operation Mockingbird' - you'll be surprised.

  • Hmm... I wonder if there's going to be any renegade tv stations that'll take chance of analog. Just like the ones who did for AM radio.

  • haha, good point.

  • No! This'll mean my little b/w tv I use when the cable goes off won't work anymore...why don't we just keep it as it is? This is some bullshit that's gonna give RCA a nice profit.

  • Someday my future kids will look at my vintage TV [if it's still working then. most likely it will be], and ask me "what are these 2 knobs? what's VHF and UHF?" and i'll tell him about the golden years of reliable TV that doesn't scramble up or go blank constantly.

Then I'll get out my old VHS

  • DTV convertor box is now available in the stores! :)

  • Does anybody question the government doing this but me? Anything they try to do that affects the whole country probably needs to be looked at through a microscope. I mean the $40 coupons could that really be a way to funnel money from the government to private businesses? And how many people in gov. are linked to or getting donations from these businesses? why is digital tv so important that everyone in the country needs it? seems all those $40 coupons could be used for something more important.

  • I'm with you, there's something really fishy about this. I got a few BIG clues... but still researching this extensively. [and why not just send out coupons, instead of applying or having almost register for them?] Really makes you think about it.

  • I agree with you. This is nothing but a brainwashing program. Bush sure does want to go out with a bang...

  • Yep, with my comment a few usernames below, I mentioned 'Operation Mockingbird' for ppl who don't know already also look up 'MK Ultra'

  • The digital signal uses MUCH MUCH less bandwidth. Therefore, if you get rid of the (bandwidth hog)analog signal, you can divide it up among MANY MANY private media or broadband-using companies. In a time when our country has spent itself into the worst debt situation ever, they see this as an opportunity to generate MANY MANY billions of dollars in revenue, while giving the lobbying corporations a shot at getting bigger, fatter, richer. Only rural, elderly & poor people will be inconvenienced

  • converter boxes are now in stores.

$50 or -40 with the coupon so you only pay 10

  • hey im not sure but i think our tv can get digital channels as well as analog. the digital channels are really clear, but i only can get 2 channels...so yesterday i had to watch the superbowl and it was super fuzzy...that'll be cool

  • DTV converter box coupons are now available

  • February 17, 2009. One day after the new Chevy Camaro hits showrooms in US.

  • and it mite be kinda true becuase there already saying in 2009 besides just TV it will have special features connected through with police and fire department dont know how this will be but there will be a point in the future where everyone will have to have there TV on all day or the TV will really be on even when u have it off so it can turn on by itself to give a special message that everyone should here by the government idk this kinda wierd but who cares haha

  • This is cool but its also kinda wierd that its ENFORCED BY LAW to all TVs to have this and no more analog why cant it be like it always has been where u choose to have it or not i think this is bullshit but sombody told me that this is somthing the government is doing for in a near future to have control over everyones homes becuase the new tvs will have built in hidden cameras idk wierd huh

  • Its governed by the FCC which appropriates radio frequencies. So pretty much ANY change that has to do with broadcasting of any type has to be ENFORCED BY LAW. Not a big deal.

  • Digital TV has definite benefits, as this video covers, but there are also some issues to be aware of that aren't presented here. Please see my channel for further discussion...

  • all that is, is hd channels (u just need a box)

  • When this happens i'm protesting WHO'S WITH ME!!!!! I'm serious come this can't happen.

  • Im with yiu the people who dont have enought money cannot afford digital converters or cable or dish. That is BS rite there

  • Hell yeah

  • The time to protest was when they voted on making this a law. Pretty cool how they sneak stuff like this past us. Oh well, the only ones who suffer are the poor, the elderly, and the disabled - maybe a few ourists, campers, rural folk and truck drivers... the big businesses will make billions and the government will profit by the ability to re-appropriate bandwidth in smaller amounts for huge revenues.

  • this is really gonna happen

  • you can now apply for a FREE coupon for an analog-to-digital converter box at dtvanswers dot com. limit 2 per household. i ordered one for myself and they approved my application.

  • i think this is bullshit...i shouldnt have to spend more money for something i get for free now.i am not cheap, i just dont have much use for tv. im too busy, but when i do want to sit and relax i shouldnt have to go buy who knows how many things to to watch the same crap im not really interested in anyway.again this is bullshit...fuck the FCC.

  • What did the FCC do? The problem here is that everyone tries to figure out WHAT and HOW, but nobody asks WHY? Were any of us asked our opinion on this before congress and the President made it a law? Good to know our voices count.

  • I am planning on purchasing a small TV for my bedroom and want to take advantage of over-the-air DTV. My family has DirecTV but doesn't want to have to install a new cable outlet or run some cable around the house so this is great.

  • Get flatscreen TV. It's better

  • I would, but all I want really is a small tube TV. I'm on a budget, and a 13" would also be great for the size of my nightstand.

  • Just go down to Wal-Mart or Target or some such place and find a 13" tube TV. Any TV that size or larger made after March 1, 2007 (which should be any still on the shelf) will have a digital tuner built in.

  • yeah same thing with me except my family is to cheap to put another directtv box in my room so im gonna have to do same thing your doing get myself a small tv and enjoy DTV..

  • If you get a digital tv you don't need a converter box. But if you get an analog tv which is very cheap you do need a converter box.

  • so right now i gotta analog tv made by sharp and i get rabbit ear signals but if i get cabel most likey through qwest will this work for my tv or will i need a digital tv?

where do i get discount tickets?

  • I got Cox because it's better.

  • I have Comcast, my digital picture quality is bad.

I hope OTA will be better quality than digital cable.

  • did you configure it properly sorry 4 the 1 month reply

  • I live in worcester, massachusetts, and I have Charter Digital Cable, it's another cable company.

  • Are You sure Cox Digital Cable broadcasts digitally? Because I have Cox!

  • Yes, Cox does broadcast digitally and has been for quite a while. I worked techsupport for Cox for about 5 years.

  • Ask you a question:do you think the signal received by a DTV is better than that received by an analog TV with the "box"?

  • The DTV will have more options I bet, and probably higher picture quality, especially if going with an HDTV. I'm not sure if the boxes will allow access to all the channels that you'll be able to get with a DTV.

  • HAHA,Thank you for your reply~~

i think the biggest advantage of DTV is high pic/sound quality:)Therefore, we should buy a HDTV~~

  • The signal you get depends on where you are in relation to the transmitter you're trying to pick up. There are some quality differences in tuner circuitry, but that depends on the maker of the TV, and the same brand will likely use the same tuner for the box as it would for built-in.
