The Batmobile was actually the Lincoln Futura show car, reworked by George Barris and Bill Cushenbery. It was not built from scratch. It is steel-bodied, has all the gadgets built-in, many of which function, and weighs 3 TONS!

I saw one that had all of the Batman paraphernalia on it on Golf Course Road on the West Mesa of Albuquerque earlier in the spring. It was awesome and guess who was driving it? Not Batman, but Robin!
