2) I much prefer the earlier stuff, but you can't blame Chris for the direction the band has gone. Listen to his other work and you'll get a far better idea what he is all about.

I think Shiflett is really talented, but Pat Smear is an iconic figure from the Golden Age of American punk rock. The Germs are one of the greatest bands of all time.

I like all the Foo Fighter's music, but I'm one of those stubborn losers who love only the first three albums.

All those albums feature 'Not Chris Shifflet', so it makes me feel fuzzy inside to blame Chris for any dislikes I may have about the new Foo.

Because Pat is a living legend, a founding member of The Germs. He also played guitar with Nirvana on the In Utero tour and was an original member of The Foo Fighters. He left after touring a bit for The Colour and The Shape, and was replaced by Franz Stahl (Scream, Wool) then Shiflett. If you've been a fan of this band from the beginning, it's really gratifying to see him back playing with them. Also, just generally speaking, the guy is an AMAZING musician. Pick up his solo records if you can.
