i went camping recently and was able to pick up 3g in the woods. there honestly was nothing around. i did this with my current phone but want to upgrade to an iphone. this being said understand the iphone has a better 3g conection than my current phone wich really makes not getting 3g very unlikely if i can get it in the middle of the woods with obsolete technology.

Fucking ridicilous price diffrence! Here in the Netherlands a iPhone without mobil service costs like 800 euro's new! Which in todays currency is 1.124,543 US dollars! With a mobile service contract it will be ATLEAST 35 euro ($50) a month for atleast 2 years. That sucks.
relax anybody can afford an iphone and its not all that.....i got offered a 3g iphone practically new for $200 but got a G1 simply because it get things done WITHOUT restrictions....oh and i didnt nenew my contract ; )

for me, i would get the iPhone just because i use iTunes and for me the iPhone's multimedia capabilities are better. BUT i have had an Blackberry before and i liked it. This probably wasn't that much help =P

If you're deciding to get an iPhone or not, do not! It has a good reputation and all but I personally prefer phones with windows mobile, why? Because they have more capabilities. Search reviews on htc phones. They are far more impressive than an iPhones capabilities. Also the iPhone and iPhone 3g lack simple things such as video recording, copy paste, and other common things you would expect in an average smart phone.

Everytime I see an IPhone commercial I always ask myself the same question, "Who the hell uses these apps, seriously who?" The IPhone is aesthetically pleasing and very simple to use making it a very trendy phone, and there's nothing wrong with that, I'm just not into trendy and I require more than just a "pretty," simple phone wih a butt-load of apps that I will never use. The phone I'm waiting on is HTC's Touch Pro 2, which is suppose to be available in the US late Q2 sometime Q3.

I have seen some apps that were actually really good and that I could actually see myself using. I wonder if Chris owns a different type of touch phone, lets say samsung omnia or any of those LGs. iphone is behind in terms of specs now. I think it's hilarious that 3G and GPS and MMS/SMS messaging and a "landscape" qwerty keyboard (in iphone 3.0) are 'SO AMAZING'...when other phones, with lower-cost service plans have had these features for a couple years now or longer. It's "the package," I know... but you'd think Apple would have more of an edge on technology than just a pretty phone with cute apps.
iphones arent so special, sure some apps can be useful but other than that, some phones already have similar stuff. I would keep my current phone and get the iTouch cuz the battery for music last longer. But if your a person into more business stuff and driving to places and everything(not exactly common but sure, kinda random thought here though) then i guess it would be a bit better to get the iphone.
my iphone 3g lasts a while but its most likely bcuz i only use wi-fi/3g when im using data (safari, maps, etc.)...idk exactly how long it lasts bcuz i never tested it but i kno it does last a pretty good while
here are some tips for you. turn off 3g if youre not using it (takes 2sec to turn it back on anyways via sbs), set fetch to no more than 30mins (unless you really need that email), turn brightness about half way and turn off auto adjust. i was just out of town that had no service so i turned off service but left wifi on... it lasted 4days strait.
I charge my 3g every night because if I don't It'll run out of battery because I'm always on youtube or something using 3g whenever I'm bored but Iphone 3g's rock!
yeah, i usually will charge mine every other but here lately ive been working out of town so its going 3-4days with out a charge. i cant use it a lot, but if i use it a lot through out the day, then yes, i do charge that night. but that would go for any phone. with the 3.0 update for the iphone, i think its the perfect phone (especially once i get it jb).

You're gay and so is the iphone 3g.....The Tytn 2 or HTC 8925 is 10 fold better then this new iphone. Still you can't shoot video..the camera is inferior to the tilt...No expandable memory, It's not a real GPS system either...it's nothing more then google maps..which you can go to XDA-Developers and download it on any phone...the tilt has "Real Gps"

i think that its sickening to have to be forced to change network just to get an iphone. im in ireland on vodafone ie, i refuse to change to o2, and pay a huge changeover charge for an over rated portable device. I bought 2 iPhones last week. See my videos! My iPhone won't work 1 mile away from a tower and I had to pull the SIMM card out to put in my Cingular 8125 in order to have cell service. My wife's iPhone (in the stand-by mode, no WiFi, no 3G) runs dead in 4 hours.
My old TracFone works better than my 3G as far as a "phone." It does work well off my WiFi here at the farm.
I'm a pilot and like the GPS, although it can't compare to my Garmin 496.

I think it's hilarious that 3G and GPS and MMS/SMS messaging and a "landscape" qwerty keyboard (in iphone 3.0) are 'SO AMAZING'...when other phones, with lower-cost service plans have had these features for a couple years now or longer. It's "the package," I know... but you'd think Apple would have more of an edge on technology than just a pretty phone with cute apps.

iphones arent so special, sure some apps can be useful but other than that, some phones already have similar stuff. I would keep my current phone and get the iTouch cuz the battery for music last longer. But if your a person into more business stuff and driving to places and everything(not exactly common but sure, kinda random thought here though) then i guess it would be a bit better to get the iphone.

- At least 5MP Camera with Xenon flash... maybe its just me but i hardly use my camera
- Voice Recording... have you heard of the app store, theirs prolly 50 different voice recorders. 10 of which are free lol
- MMS... i agree there, app store has given an alternative
- Longlife Battery... mine last about 3 days. thats plenty for me given i can plug it into anything usb

my iphone 3g lasts a while but its most likely bcuz i only use wi-fi/3g when im using data (safari, maps, etc.)...idk exactly how long it lasts bcuz i never tested it but i kno it does last a pretty good while

here are some tips for you. turn off 3g if youre not using it (takes 2sec to turn it back on anyways via sbs), set fetch to no more than 30mins (unless you really need that email), turn brightness about half way and turn off auto adjust. i was just out of town that had no service so i turned off service but left wifi on... it lasted 4days strait.

I charge my 3g every night because if I don't It'll run out of battery because I'm always on youtube or something using 3g whenever I'm bored but Iphone 3g's rock!

yeah, i usually will charge mine every other but here lately ive been working out of town so its going 3-4days with out a charge. i cant use it a lot, but if i use it a lot through out the day, then yes, i do charge that night. but that would go for any phone. with the 3.0 update for the iphone, i think its the perfect phone (especially once i get it jb).

The most important thing is to be open for all users internationally.

1.) apple doesn't control the apps, the creators of the apps do...apple just confrims the apps
2.)They can't intergrate adobe because they have quickplayer and adobe is for woindows
3.)They have java
4.) They make it so the battery doesn't come out because there are important wires that are attached to the battery leading to other things that could damage the iphone if tampered with
5.) You don't buy a new iphone if something happens to your iphone, you send it in and they replace it FREE

1.) yeah they select what gets approved. no browser allowed bec it's competes with safari, no voip bec aggreement with providers etc.
2.) wrong adobe is not only windows, even symbian has it and most other gadgets and linux too.
3.) not really entirely do your research.
4.) it means poor design all other phones have detachable batteries but don't have that issue.
5.) yeah very inconvenient for the consumer but not to guys like you who loves apple.

1.) Yes you can download 3rd party browser, podcast downloaders etc. through the App Store
4.) They exchange a user-replaceable battery for extended battery life (the iPhone has a much better stand-by time than the Nokia N95 but the N95 battery is user-replaceble)
This is similar to the MacBook Pros. The 17 inch has the best battery life but is non-user replaceable, but the 15 inch has shorter life but is user replaceable.

1.) when i posted the comment 3rd party browser was not allowed at that time. yeah 3rd party browser is allowed but they all suck. checkout pcmag article on this.
4.) yeah but only for 1 year after warranty then you're on your own. so you cannot use it for 4 - 5 years unless you buy another one. the battery life in n95 is better i know this because I had an iphone before now I'm using n95.

bottom line is... n95 can do anything iphone can (of course without touch) plus a lot more.
I can watch yahoo, cnn, hulu, cbs all videos on the internet.
I can listen to any radio stations in the internet.
I can take quality videos/pictures and send to a friend or the internet directly from the phone.
I can use it as a modem.
All these are not available on the iphone and these are nice things I can't let go.

Still you can't shoot video..the camera is inferior to the tilt...No expandable memory, It's not a real GPS system either...it's nothing more then google maps..which you can go to XDA-Developers and download it on any phone...the tilt has "Real Gps"

i think that its sickening to have to be forced to change network just to get an iphone. im in ireland on vodafone ie, i refuse to change to o2, and pay a huge changeover charge for an over rated portable device. At the moment, it strikes me as a gimmick, i love Apple, but it appears they sold out to the likes of AT&T, O2 etc, and thats something that was never in Apple's culture. I'm currently using a 3G Sony Ericsson k800i, 3.2 megapixel camera, its suits me dwn to the ground.

I bought 2 iPhones last week. See my videos! My iPhone won't work 1 mile away from a tower and I had to pull the SIMM card out to put in my Cingular 8125 in order to have cell service. My wife's iPhone (in the stand-by mode, no WiFi, no 3G) runs dead in 4 hours.
My old TracFone works better than my 3G as far as a "phone." It does work well off my WiFi here at the farm.
I'm a pilot and like the GPS, although it can't compare to my Garmin 496.
