Thank you. Ishi's story is very special to me, and you did a fine job covering his his life in white America. I hope you continue to make documentaries, shows lots of talent. His voice at the end (I assume) was a special finish
Unfortunatly for the Yahi their decision in 1877 to attack white settlers in the Oroville area led to the death of at least one white child. The punitive expedition led by local militia discovered Yahi children hiding in a cave. All were killed. The tribe could not reconstitute after that incident and quickly dwindled. This material was from Mrs. Kroeber's accounts.
Look up "Man of the Hole'", he is a Native American who currently lives in Rondônia, Brazil. He is the last of his tribe, everyone else was massacred in the 1970s or 80s.
My ancestor, my great great great grandfather was half yahi and half wintu, he was born into the wintu tribe as a result of asort or arranged marriage involving his mother or father as part of inter tribal relations, though this isn't clearly defined.
I've seen many photos and a few videos of Ishi over the years. In the four years that he lived in Northern California he went from hiding from everyone to riding street cars and smoking cigarettes.
If this video interests you, I would highly recommend reading "Tending the Wild: Native American Knowledge and the Management of California's Natural Resources" by M. Kat Anderson.
i have just read in two worlds after reading the accounts of dr pope have gained a hobby in archery.nice video.one thing i (and many others) can never understand is why no one was ever tried for the crimes against the ethnic americans.after all it was funded slaughter & in that respect is on par with what hitler did,in others it's worse.yet all americans behave as if it was another species to blame not their ancestors.
Unfortunately we're all guilty of it - we can't try ourselves for it. The greatest condemnation we can undergo is not jailtime, but knowing how much the white ancestors took from us.
It was just a really nasty, pathetic point in world history; white man is as much of savagery as it is civil.
ishi's tribe and mine are very close at one time we all were one people its sad to think about what happend but i wonder how many people who watch this will really understand anything about him or his people
The Euroman is inherently evil.

I read somewhere that Ishi thought the White man's greatest inventions were matches and glue.

the extinction of the yahi isn't true.

Point being, I'm yahi, if only a little bit.

At least he was treated with kindness and lived out the latter part of his life in peace and comfort.

Great job on creating something which helps people learn something about someone and someplace that seems far away, but is actually here and now.
