  • I'm working on this in Kansas City Youth Jazz. Fun stuff.

  • These kids are great. I used to play this tune (and others by the awesome Neal Hefti) back when I was in high school in the seventies. We were damn good -- but these kids may rock even harder. Great vid!

  • I wonder why such a miracle emerged at this very ordinary public high school? And why they disappeared? BFJOs in 2010 or around seem not so miraculous for me as those of 2007 or around.

  • I love the BFJO. Because itshows what dedication to your chosen Art form can do. These kids have reached an excellence at such a tender age that I have ever seen.

  • this sucks

  • Heard this song over and over during my life, and didn't know that Neal Hefti ("The Odd Couple") composed it. Thanx!

  • You guys sound awesome! :) What group is this?

  • If this is heaven I quit sinning

  • bit quick for my tastes but ABSOLUTELY amazing musicianship from all of these young musicians.

  • この曲大好きです!

  • a very talented group of musicians. I loved this video. Who did the arrangment for this song?

  • @patrick9654 Thank you. Arranger is Calvin Custer. Music Sheet from Series of Jazz Classics for Young Bands, ALFRED Publishing.

  • great piece, nice playing

    cheers

  • doin this song for jazz band

  • Me too lol do you live in NJ?

  • holy shiz me too and i live in nj

  • TREMBLEZ!

  • 5 stars!!!

  • This is a very talented group of girls. The band director can make or break a band and this one obviously has a great director. They could nearly pass for a studio orchestra. It doesn't hurt that Neal Hefti was one of my favorites. Well done.

  • By the way, Paul...meant to tell you that it was your dad that enabled me to attend two marvelous evenings at United Recorders, while Frank was singing and your Dad arranging and conducting the band (Earl Palmer, Al McKibbon, Conte Condoli, Ben Webster, Frank Rosolino, etc.) for the Album; "Sinatra and Swinging Brass." Other than getting to know Neal, the most unforgettable two nights, that I have EVER spent, in my life. I loved your Dad..so VERY much!!! What a gentleman.......

  • Has this wonderful jazz orchestra released any CD's? If so, would love to purchse one.

  • There's no official CD's. If you hope, I may give you my recorded ones.

  • Haitin, how would I be able to receive the recorded "tracks"?

  • Having had a longtime friendship with Neal since, 1958, can assure you that he is "smiling and happy" having heard this band. Great!!!! I miss Neal very much. The last time that we spent together, was at Marty Paich's funeral, several years ago.

  • Tony7840,

I'm very much appreciated to your comment.

And I express condolences that you lost your friend Neal.

  • Thank you so very much for being so gracious. Would love to hear the band playing "Lil Darling," The Odd Couple, Duel at Diablo and Girl Talk, as well as, songs that Nal wrote and arranged for Basie.. All written by Neal. God bless these wonderful girls.

  • Tony, I miss him as well.

  • Paul, were "Francie" and Neal your parents?? Jonny Frigo was the impetus of your Dad and I to meet. Was performing at "Easy Street," in Chicago. When appearing at the "Hilltop Club," in Palm Springs, we shared driving going back to Hollywood. He was involved in an album featuring Ann-Margaret. Refraining his exact words; "asolutely dread having to be involved dealing with a NON-SINGER." Paul, are you currently living in Santa Barbara??......Tony

  • Tony - please look me up in the Local 47 directory, call me and leave your email address if I'm not in. PH

  • Paul..will have call AFM 47 directly, on Friday, to retrieve your information. By the way, do you know Warren Luening???

  • Paul, by the way, after searching a Google site pertaining to you, came across one, where in the photo, you are the "spitting" image of your Dad, with you wearing sunglasses. There's also another gentleman in the photo. Am assuming tht it's one of your photos. By the way, have no problems providing my e-mail addy to ANYONE.

  • Tony, that page has my contact info at the bottom - please do so and say hello.

  • I wish I had known your father. But to judge from what he created (the music I have loved all my life, played as a pianist, and found endless joy and surprise of discovery), I imagine him: loving, capable of tremendous hard work, creative, with an impish almost childlike sense of wonder and humor.

OK, I'm a stranger, he was your Dad... Am I close at all?

  • damn good girls!

  • I don't know what sort of authority samfreemanwatford thinks he is but he writes absolute garbage. NYJO can be a fine band under the direction of Bill Ashton but to compare this equally fine band with NYJO is quite frankly odious. I find their interpretation of Neil Hefti's chart absolutely charming and I'm sure played in a way that he would have appreciated, god rest his soul.

  • NYJO are definitely over a million times better than BFJO!

  • And you point is . . .

  • How impressive. Style, class, humor, dynamics, discipline and talent, and I hear the right style from the saxes for Basie. There are a lot of pro bands that don't play this professionally.

  • The drummer makes me want to play drums, now I play tenor sax. she is rally Jazz! she is my favorite.

  • as seen up above my jazz band plays this as well.. my instructor was like u are supposed to play it slow and relaxing!! clearly its supposed to be played fast.. nice job! really enjoyed ur rendition
