The girl at front of my place came to watch it with me and at the first scary scene she remembered she did not do her homeworks. Rutger Hauer was way better than Nalder at portraying Barlow. It's creepier with a guy who isn't so monstrous, since you don't recognize him immediately as the bad guy. All opinions respected though.

Hauer can't scare anyone. Vampires who talk all the time are never scary. The terror that Nalder's Barlow inspires upon the audience is by his mere presence, not sounding deliciously evil.

People bitch about Old Horror vs New Horror all the time. I have yet to see the Saw movies, and I'm in no hurry to. I will say that the Oldies took their time building up tension and suspense. They were very stylish as well. Most vampire movies tend to be erotic and a bit cheesy. Not that there's anything wrong with that! But vampires belong in nightmares, and this movie puts them there.

The Fog is a great concept for a horror movie-original not a cheesy rehash of an original.That church scene in the last 5 minutes of the movie, those phantom-pirates w/ fiery eyes, that scene is so scary & nightmarish!

Exactly what I was thinking about Donald Sutherland. Sutherland is a terrific actor, but I did't like him as Straker. This was no fault of his though, the writers made his character a goofball unlike how Straker was in the novel. Mason was a much more classy and distinguished villain. If that makes any sense?
