There are a couple of percent or less(depending on enrichment) of fission products. Very radioactive, and hence become fairly harmless after only a couple of hundred years.
The component of nuclear fuel that supposedly necessitates storing it for hundreds of thousands of years is transuranics, that is actinides, fuel!
They are not as good fuel as U-235, but fully usable with the appropriate technology.
