  • Thanks for posting the video! Grasmere is a lovely place - we were there visiting family earlier this year. You are getting more rain now I think - please do some more videos and let us see what is happening up there! Thanks!

  • oink

  • Amazin video, we love Grasmere & visit at least twice a year. Good luck & we will be thinking about you all. We will be back just after Christmas, take care

  • Haste ye back!

  • glad to know the stones are ok, but sorry to hear you have last your patio etc

  • Haste ye back!

  • I have recently had a stone set in the Wordsworth Memorial garden next to the church. Does anyone know how the garden has survived? It looks very much flooded in the video

  • I will check tomorrow and post a reply, but I'm confident that the workmanship will be OK. I know the guy who did the job!

  • is the swan hotel ok?

  • Hi, All the stones are OK and very very clean!

You were right to ask though, because we lost our own riverside patio and flower bed in the deluge.

  • Please note, THE HOTEL WAS'NT FLOODED - in fact it escaped unscathed - the building's foundations come up out of the river, and whilst we haven't seen the river as high before, we remained safe and so did a house full of guests! I only posted the video so that people who know the area could see what happens during such a weather event!

  • Hey hey, can you please keep us updated on the situation, im going to send a copy of this video to weather forum :)

  • The river rose several inches behond this but has (in the last two hours) dropped back slightly. We are dreading the night to come! This is the highest I have seen the river and I have been here for nearly 14 years

  • Broadgate, Grasmere, Cumbria ~ This is the location, maybe not to far from you ?

At the moment it shows that rain is falling at 10mm - 18mm, but it does sometimes get really intense. Radar identifies that there is about 120mm rain fallen over the high ground in 24 hours, ~ Ill keep eye on radar to see if anything further develops. ~ As im in SE Wales, its not easy to get media coverage.

  • Hi,

Thanks, Broadgate is a two minute walk.

Because we are in a steep sided valley, the rainfall that really matters is on the tops of the fells. We regularly get 120 inches of rain a year here - less than some places like Seathwaite in Borrowdale, just a few miles away.
