Wow, she is wrong. There is no such thing as a shadow in space! For a shadow, there would be a need for light to see it. Think, when there IS NO eclipse, WHERE DOES THE "SHADOW" GO? Since there would be no special force, the waves would travel forever. AKA, There would be a "shadow" somewhere in space: Alas, there isn't one.

Actually thats not always the case. Sometimes there is a solar eclipse, and sometimes there is a lunar eclipse, I don't quite remember which ones which, but I do remember that one type, (I think its solar) is when the earth's shadow passes in front of the moon, but also at one point, the moon passes in front of the sun, you may think thats weird because the sun is much larger, but because the moon and the earth are so far away, they look the same size. This is a lunar eclipse (I think) its cool!

Actually, you have it backwards. A solar eclipse is when the Moon physically passes in front of the Sun. A lunar eclipse is when the Earth's shadow passes over the Moon.

I am watching with my 6 year old son to teach the reason for the eclipse, but I have to say she is really a "fox", hope that does not sound sexist. Great lesson video, and graphic, really helped to explain the concept to my son.

To oversimplify, it's for the same reason that sunsets are red. Our atmosphere filters out the shorter-wavelength light, so right on the edge of the Earth's shadow, the light from the Sun that's hitting the moon is red.
