Wow, she is wrong. There is no such thing as a shadow in space! For a shadow, there would be a need for light to see it. Think, when there IS NO eclipse, WHERE DOES THE "SHADOW" GO? Since there would be no special force, the waves would travel forever. AKA, There would be a "shadow" somewhere in space: Alas, there isn't one.
hmm nice to see other people actually turn in their knowledge to the science of space and eclipses nice work on explaning the earth's axis and how the moon dosent always come into the earth's shadow
It´s very good the explication, the images are incredibles, I no speak english but can understad the explication thank for the information and the video
LMAO. I love how at the end, she turns around back to her desk, as if we had interrupted her work or something with this question.
And one more thing...
I love these "Ask an Astronomer" videos but please...this appears to be a professionally done series. Can't they get some mics for these astronomers? It's hard to listen to that echo they have when they're talking.
Actually thats not always the case. Sometimes there is a solar eclipse, and sometimes there is a lunar eclipse, I don't quite remember which ones which, but I do remember that one type, (I think its solar) is when the earth's shadow passes in front of the moon, but also at one point, the moon passes in front of the sun, you may think thats weird because the sun is much larger, but because the moon and the earth are so far away, they look the same size. This is a lunar eclipse (I think) its cool!
Actually, you have it backwards. A solar eclipse is when the Moon physically passes in front of the Sun. A lunar eclipse is when the Earth's shadow passes over the Moon.
I am watching with my 6 year old son to teach the reason for the eclipse, but I have to say she is really a "fox", hope that does not sound sexist. Great lesson video, and graphic, really helped to explain the concept to my son.
To oversimplify, it's for the same reason that sunsets are red. Our atmosphere filters out the shorter-wavelength light, so right on the edge of the Earth's shadow, the light from the Sun that's hitting the moon is red.

Doris, you are well endowed, and that makes for a more interesting video to say the least... woo hoooo! It's always nice to see a woman with beautifully round hips and breasts doing a video like this. Grrrrrr.
Aaron518 i do care about religions ( the three major religions) so please DO NOT generalize if you wanna say things it will show more of an intellect to say it about yourself because your only representing yourself and no one else
Religion is shit! Only a primitive, unintelligent mind beholds the wonders of the Universe and invokes crude anthropomorphic myths instead of embracing reality.

hitmonlee209 3 years ago
They don't line up perfectly with Earth's seasons, but if you Google the term you can find several in-depth articles online.

This is the truth about Eclipse of the Moon and the Sun from Al Quran Al Kareem. Chapter 75:6 He questions: "When is the Day of Resurrection?"
75:7 So when the sight becomes dazed,
75:8 And the moon is eclipsed
75:9 And the sun and the moon are brought together,
75:10 That Day will Man say: "Where is the refuge?"
75: 11 By no means! there shall be no place of refuge!
75:12 With your Lord alone shall on that day be the place of rest.
WeBorn2DieAnyTime 4 years ago
Get out of here with your nonsense,no one cares what the Quran says about an eclipse.
