Hey, dude. Much appreciation for dropping this clip on us.
Read a lot of the comments and it would appear that the majority aren't seeing, nor hearing, what is in this solo of Stanley. I TOTALLY agree with you that it's AWESOME. It's gone to a different level of music!!! There's so much depth and feeling in it. I just keep playing it over and over again.
Yeah, I like Stanley. He's not my favourite bass player. But what he's done in this clip is at another level that the status quo CAN NOT fath
Video is cool. Just don't care for Stanley. Met him years ago. Very arrogant. Had a bass showdown at the Paradise in Boston. Used his Alembic bass and gave a line of bass players a chance to show there stuff on some two dollar epiphone bass while they showcased their skills he would play over them and make them look silly. Turned his bass up to 10 and theres on 2. Really thought he was something backed then. Then changed my praise.
This is AWFUL. He sounds like a frustrated guitarist. This is NOT what bass sounds like, at all. Listen to Mingus, Jaco, Chris Squire, John Entwhistle. REAL bass players. Not this noodling shite.
@MultiSmersh I really hope you didn't make a judgement of Stanley's playing solely off of this one video.. I saw him a couple nights ago with Chick Corea and Lenny White and that performance was incredible. I agree this obviously isn't his best playing, but really- you can't judge him based on a 50 second video with horrible quality. If you want to listen to a "REAL" solo by Stanley, here: /watch?v=YnpS35iw0aI&feature It wasn't very hard to find
Ummmm. Stanley Clarke is a great bassist and all. I think he's awesome. But I can't believe you sonsider this an "INSANE" bass solo. He can do quite a bit better than that. And so can a lot of other people.
@KwazyTwang its not about how many notes you can play that makes a solo a great solo... his note selection and groove makes his solo full of emotion and power. its an insane solo because who else can sound like that on a bass? you can tell thats stanley clarke by the tone and style he is playing... its dripping with taste. IMO.
@Zack2TheFuture That really wasn't what I was trying to convey. I'm not necessarily talking about speed, or some crazy technique. I meant it as a general statement. Encompassing all forms of playing.

Just imagine if, while Stanley Clarke was doing his insane bass solo, suddenly Jimi Hendrix showed up on stage with his legendary Strat and the solo became an instrumental duet.
I'd like to "really" know who you heard and have seen that's better than this guy because they don't exist.....LOL. Now not "your" favorite, but actually considered better than him.
