  • Anne of Cleve is speaking modern High german in this movie! I can understand it perfectly although she has a heavy accent XD. But Kleve is north of the benrath line! Which means she should speak low german/low saxon which is much closer to anglosaxon/english since it did not had the second Germanic consonant shift. So her accent maybe was not that heavy after all. And it should made it easier for her to learn english.

  • She wasn't exactly his type. He liked his women slim and sylph-like, and Anne was a little more full in the bosom and hip. Because they became such good friends after the annulment, it is more likely that in the end, they just did not get along as husband and wife.

  • Joss Stone is a great actress but I think they miscast Anne. The king claimed her to be ugly and that he did not care for her but Joss is lovely and gorgeous :(

  • @SpunkStalker101 You said the word; "claimed". They can't cast the actress on what Henry was suppose to have claimed. Portraits and accounts from that time, show her to be quite attractive. She was simply not Henry's type

Infact Anne of Cleeves was probably more repulsed by Henry than vice versa. Henry was almost 50, whilst Anne was only 35

  • How did Henry not find her beautiful? She is lovely.

  • HAHAHAHAHAAHA 'he must put his member inside you and stir it!' HAHAHA

  • "hubby wants to dump me? good, i don't care, he's fat and smells like sh*t"

  • Finally a Queen that admits that Henry VIII was not so good like this....

  • "IT STINKED! IT SMELLS YA?" .....LMAO

  • I feel so sorry for Anne of Cleves. Everybody thinks that she was ugly, but the only person who thought that was Henry. Everybody else agreed that she was an attractive woman, though not Henry's 'type'. When he married Catherine Howard, and Anne was retitled as the King's 'sister', she actually came back to court for Christmas when Catherine was queen (Awkward!) Apparetly, everybody there agreed that Anne behaved much more like a queen than the silly little Catherine.

  • @PassTheMarmalade1957 Indeed....

  • Poor Anne... Must have been hard. Henry was horrible. He only thought of an heir. All the women were like his toys. If he diden't like them he killed them or divorced them and then he got a new wife. But I think Henry loved Anne but diden't want to admit it...

  • there's a bunch of wonderful German actresses, why her?

  • @elvaelvirababe Because she casted to play in the tudors. She should have been Jane Seymour but with her concerts, it was not possible so they gave her Anne of Cleves

  • AND WHAT IS WRONG WITH BOTH OF THEM ?? WHY CANT THEY HAVE SEX ??? I JUST DONT GET IT !!! IF ANYONE COULD EXPLAIN !!!

  • @misssoumsouma Nothing is wrong with Anne of Cleves. Henry is just an asshole. Some say that Anne met H before, but didn't know it was him. He was raunchy, perverted, and drunk. She disliked him, perhaps called him a few things, not to mention on their wedding day and night, she was nervous, and perhaps scared. Henry, slighted ego and not used to a woman not immediately fawning over him... he wasn't attracted to her. No need for the caps.

  • @misssoumsouma Anne was raised in a way where sex was never mentionned, so she does not really know how to do in bed and Henry had been quite dissappointed by her looks ( it is said that Holbein painted her more beautiful than she was) and by a reaction she had when he met her. In real life, he hugged her from behind to play and she called him ap ervert without knowing who he was.

  • WHAT ?? I DONT UNDERSTAND ??? SHE COULDNT GIVE HIM A CHILD OR WHAT ??

  • IF she has to speak german, why don´t they just hire a german actress?????

  • i don't understand why henry thought she looked like a horse. she's pretty!

  • Oookay, I'm from Germany and I can't even understand her when she speaks german :D

  • @ShanaFirouzeh I don't know what she speaks in the series, I can understand it as a dutch speaker, it is certainly no dutch, to me it sound very german. But remember that it is most likly that she spoke middle low german and not high german. Since that was the lingua franca in Germany and the Netherlands at that time.

  • @ShanaFirouzeh B/c it's Renaissance German. Like how English was different back then. That's how I see it, and I'm American.

  • "He must put his member inside and "stir" it"??? o__0

  • Catherine of Aragon disliked this

  • @Komnenit looooool!

  • Joss Stone did a wonderful acting playing Anne of Cleves. Her accent is so cute. She's my favorite actress to ever play the part of Queen Anne.

  • her german accent is so bad, i know a lot of foreign people and that sounded like a chinese accent.

  • @Teleringelfon sounds more French to me. But it certainly isn't german.

  • @Teleringelfon Chinese? Not even close.

  • Quick question why did she say yes to marrying Henry in the first place after hearing of his reputation with wives? I don't get it.

  • @Willow698 i dont think she had a choice...her brother basicly arranged the whole thing.

women were quite put upon in those days, thank god she survived.

  • @chykim1 Hahah you're quoting Jane Seymour.

  • @PrincessMioneKag i know..shes my favorite queen.

  • her german sounds cute :)

  • What is that last song playing? It's so pretty.

  • ah the sweetest kindest of the wives so cruelly maligned by history.

  • No! They have certainly got this wrong. The way Anne dressed was extremely modest and never dressed immodest or "french" until she was sent away to hever castle to live alone. Katherine Howard was the complete opposite to Anne of Cleeves, Henry chose her for that too.

  • That's a pretty laughable accent right there. She's supposed to be German but I've hearing mostly French, with the odd German "ya" or "und" here and there.

  • I think this women is prety so is Natalie dormer and all that play the queens but the real queens and the real king I think they're all ugly, especially that Henrry full of grease

  • it's not all her fault the marriage wasnt consummated....

  • He should've stayed with Anne of Cleves. She was a sweetheart

  • Wow, King Henry maybe had eye problems, the pichures of her are beautiful! There nothing wrong with her, she is normal.

  • @the4beautiful

She actually was pretty, as Hans Holbein was one of the most talented and accurate portrait painters who ever lived. (Besides, why would he dare deceive the King?) Anne's problem was that she was not Henry's type: too tall, too buxom, unable to dance or play any instruments, did not understand any other language than German, dressed in what he saw as a gaudy German style, and was not educated in the Renaissance tradition. Many found her more attractive than Catherine Parr.

  • her german is so awful xD i´m from germany and i told you! but it is funny ^^

  • @NadznRS Das stimmt ich musste so lachen :D

  • I never understood why the king didn't like Anne of Cleves? I never found anything wrong with her..

  • @Persephonie22 When he first rushed to meet her, he wasn't dressed as a king, but in commoner's garbs. And being the vain Henry we all know, he thought she'd fall in love with him immediately. Another maybe-reason is that he loved hiding his identity and "surprising" everybody. Henry was still rather a child sometimes, really. When she was repulsed by him, he got offended. Her naivety and ignorance of the English court's workings also exasperated him.

  • He doesn't want to sleep with her.

  • lmao at the way Lady Bryant describes sex to Queen Anne of Cleves

  • From what I understand of AOC she was naive. When Henry first met her he wanted her to fall in love with him at first site and know who he was without being dressed as himself. When he gave her a gift she didn't know it was him until he revealed himself. This upset him and led him to find her displeasing. She didn't know he disliked her and thought him kind. She thought them kissing would make her pregnant. She never even knew she was laughed about and disliked until she was asked to leave.

  • How swwet Joss is talking in german. It sounds funny. :D (I´m from germany)

  • he was having a bat because anne cleeves wasnt good in bed , she was a virgin i think and she hesitated , and the king got upset and frustrated.

  • @woahXgirl94 Actually no, the problem was that he could not... 'keep it up'. It was due to his condition. At the time he was actually a very fat, older man, and he had a very bad case of gout.

  • I know she still makes mistakes and all, plus the accent...but I still don't think that Anne's English would have been that good at this point?

  • @Nine00 It's a tv show, the characters should be required to speak with an accent an American can understand, right? We don't care about accuracy, right? I'd rather listen to her sing anyway. She looked good at the royal wedding.

  • @Nine00 You'd be right, she barely knew English and required translators.

  • @KTBEverlasting but they did an overdub, didn't they? Like, have someone with such an accent talk and record it over Joss talking?

  • @cloclocupcake7 I don't think they do overdub, singers have an easier time picking up accents because they are more aurally trained.

  • Really? If I were her, wouldn't you ask if he would kill you?. I would be so scared for my life if i ever married him. He mostly killed all of his wife. And I wouldn't want to have sex with him either!! His fat ass self wasn't even hot. And he's very hairy. Gross!

  • @risa199613 he killed 2/6 of his wives, divorced 2/6 of them, then 1/6 died and the other one outlived him

  • @risa199613

he killed 2 of his wives, thats not nearly all..

  • @lalamyah Well, you could agrue that Henry killed Jane and CoA as well. though not direct

  • Anne of Cleves rocks and Joss did a wonderful job playing her.

  • she actually is really pretty.

    she looked amazing at 4:27

  • WHAT HAPPENED TO HENRY FROM 4:56 TO 5:05, WHY WAS HE TREMBLING IN THAT WAY????

  • @QueenBrendaSIV I think they call that an orgasm my dear.

  • @mattcookuk I thought instead it was him trying really desperately to get it up because she didn't do it for him. And then he got all pissed off because it stayed..down..and that's why he was so frustrated. Didn't seem like an orgasm to me.

  • @QueenBrendaSIV Anne was deeply religious, and did not know how to react to what he was doing, also she was nervous :)

  • Can someone write down the speech of Anne from 1:22 to 1:42 please, please, I just don't understand it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @QueenBrendaSIV She said: How am I to become quick with child when the King releases me a maid? I am not the Virgin Mary. Or since you say to me, I'm nothing private, then I say it's you that is all not pleasing. I would do anything the King wants but sometimes... (German dialogue)' ... basically, Anne is expressing her frustration that her marriage is not consummated which was more pressurizing than not producing a son.

  • @JuzTudor70AD Thank you, you are so sweet! I never thought someone would write it down for me.

  • @JuzTudor70AD When Anne of Cleves spoke German to Cromwell, she said "The wound on his leg is bad. It oozes blood and pus. And it smells".

  • @JuzTudor70AD it isn't "or since you say..." it is "und since you say..." und is German and means "And"

  • @QueenBrendaSIV

Hello, I am french but I will try to translate english with german accent :

--> How am I to become quick with child when the king has lease, elease (?) me a maid

I am not the virgin Mary

"Und" since you say me I am nothing private then I say you it is not all pleasing,

I will do anything the King wants but sometimes ... <--

    here it is ?

  • wow she is A BAD ACTRICE wuahahahhaahhaahha

  • It's safe to say that Anne Of Cleves dogged a bullet..I mean she didn't get killed and she was given a nice settlement

  • What season is she in?

  • @shallowbayphase Anne of Cleves is from S03E06~S04E03...

  • If you go by the portraits, I actually think Anne of Cleaves was the prettiest!! But back then there was a very different standard of beauty...I'm sure Henry would probably puke at the sight of a Super Model! So skinny and without any breasts or child bearing hips! Anyway we have no idea what any of them actually looked like...just a faint idea by the portraits.

  • Come on, people--beauty has always been subjective. Henry finds a certain look beautiful, I find another...personally, from the portraits, I don't find any of his wives gorgeous....gotta love opinion.

  • disturbing when he started to masturbate him self!

  • What I find ironic and amusing is that the most stable and functional relationship that he ever had with any woman may have very well been the friendship that he formed with Anne of Cleves. I have heard that he once said that he wished she were a man because she would have been a great addition to his privy council. I think she might have been the one woman that he may have actually respected as a human being. Being undesirable to him really saved her neck!

  • Her accent was good in it but she overused the letter 'z' like the german stereotype

  • Poor Anne Cleeves.

    She must have been scared.

It wasn't just Cathrine Parr who survivrd, but Anne Cleeves as well.

  • Henry couldn't really kill her just like he killed Anne Boleyn, because Anne of Cleaves, was a noblewoman from Germany, just like Catherine of Aragon was a princess from Spain, can't kill wives from other countries or those countries will wage war, that's a fact, so that's why Henry divorced Anne of Cleaves and Catherine of Aragon.

  • she´s pretty, Anna de Cleves wasen´t. it´s a casting´s mistake

  • @dtvtss none of them was attractive in these days. If they had chosen ugly actors no one would watch the series.......

  • @dtvtss : Actually, even though she's very pretty for some of us yet, if you juge her after the 1500s's beauty canons she is only quite pleasing, maybe even only plain. That's exactly what Anne de Cleves was (very pretty for us between pretty and plain for some people back then)... except she had a long nose, while Joss Stone's nose is normal.

  • @dtvtss You have no idea what Anne of Cleaves actually looked like. Standards of beauty have changed. How can you definitively say she was not pretty? Because fat, murderous, chauvinistic bastard Henry didn't like her?? Do you have a photo, please share?

  • @plutogirllovekj iam aslo waiting on the photo :D

  • @plutogirllovekj There's a portrait of her.

  • she was clever enough to agree in divorce............!

  • this Rhys Meyers doesnt seem to age, unlike the personage he depicts

  • Aww poor Joss Stone, don't be so hard on her, she did her best. She didn't even want to be Anne of Cleves originally she wanted to be Jane Seymour but she couldn't fit those parts into her schedule. I think she did quite well considering she only had a couple of months to learn the accent.

But perhaps she wasn't as inspired playing Anne of Cleves. In her interviews she stressed how much she wanted to play the English rose (Jane) but ended up playing the German minga :-S

  • I liked anne - she was beautiful physically and intellectually.

  • oh my god, can it be that this is the worst actress i ve ever seen??maybe directly after diane krüger...That´s Joss Stone? The best scene ever is at 2:48. She says: " Vhy?, he iss moost kindt...whhenn hee koomes too beedtt hee kissses mee, jaaaa...."

There is nooooo German in the whole world who finishes a sentence with jaaa. Maybe miss stone watched some comedy about germans to prepare for that role. Really??Thats the worst demonstration of a historic figure i ve ever seen in my entire life.

  • oh come on, the accent of this actress is absurd!! Her attempt to speak german about the kings wound is even worse! That sounds like someone is trying to speak german for the first time... who ist this actress anyway??

  • @Leutnant82 her name is joss stone!

actually she really has a good german accent! she imitates it quite well! true, the accent sounds funny but that is exactly how they talk, .. i should know coz i live in austria!

  • @Leutnant82 Don't get mad @ Joss. Get mad @ whoever the crew hired to teach her the accent.

  • was Anne of Cleves the one who Henry picked by a portrait?

  • Why did he masturbated?

  • how did henry get that sore on his leg?

  • @koddaver1 he had a joustling accident in S02, which is also historically true. the wound on his leg never healed, hence, the smelly pus and the other yucky stuff

  • I think Henry was addicted to sex...lol or I think I'm being a bit silly...

  • @MsEnglishtea I'd say a "bit silly". "The Tudors" is historically inaccurate crap.

  • @RealityCalling ....haha of course it's inaccurate it's entertainment television...if you want accuracy then I suggest you watch the history channel, you are never going to find accuracy through movies and or this miniseries...If ever, it would be the most boring thing to watch, and very long to come to an end. And if it bothers you so much, then by all means don't waste your precious time watching it. ^.^

  • She speaks a strange german :D

  • She have a good german accent :D

    (im german)

But I think, she dont look like a horse O.o

  • She have a good german accent :D

  • Henry didn't kill Anne because it was illegal to kill a princess from another country. He didn't kill Catherine of Aragon, she died on her own.

  • @mothaOmess

Though there were rumors that Henry (and some say Anne Boleyn as well) had Catherine gradually poisoned to death, though in reality, she died of a cancerous growth to the heart. Henry would never have dared risk war with the Holy Roman Empire and Spain (both ruled by Catherine's nephew) while Anne was safe as long as Catherine lived, for Henry could not practically have two surviving former wives.

  • @mothaOmess *sighs* In real life it was not nescessary to "kill" Anne of Cleves. The marriage was annuled, and she readily consented to it. She fared well because of her amicability to it. Some historians speculate Katherine of Aragon may have fared as well had she consented to a divorce. This show is not historically accurate. Dont mix soap operas with real history.

  • hahhah faill... majorr

  • haha! when she talks german it sounds really funny she doesn´t pronounce some of the words right : ) cute

  • what happened from 4:35 to 5:21? can someone explain?

  • @krizpecream Henry can't get himself to do it with Anne of Cleves and so, he had to do it manually with himself.

  • @JuzTudor70AD I laughed so hard at that part.

  • @JuzTudor70AD Oh wow I'm dumb. Lol I though his leg was hurting.

  • @JuzTudor70AD shit ! but why? she is beautiful

  • @angileka1987 Historically, Henry perceived Anne of Cleves as ugly & not sexually attractive due to their 1st encounter tt didn't went well. AoC could not speak English. She was clueless abt the Tudor Court & lacked the cultural sophistication tt Henry perferred in women. Plus, no one taught her how to flatter Henry's ego since he was obese & roughly 49yrs old at that time. A fatal error on Cromwell's part.

  • @JuzTudor70AD thats alot of informations I didn't know thanks :)

  • @JuzTudor70AD He also disguised himself, and she did not recognize him. She also was shocked at how repulsive he was.

  • @Saffron49 Yup! If I were in her position, I would freak out and run back to Germany.

  • @krizpecream He was trying to get a hard on manually as he couldn't get one naturally.

  • I love Anne's spunk when she's talking to Cromwell.

  • personally i think when she puts her hand on her face shes trying to stop herself from throwing up because king hen was grosssss

  • @lizzybear2435 at that point he was a fat, nasty, smelly dirty old man. but when he was young, he was thought to be gorgeous.

  • When will the 6th season begin?

  • @NA60469 the finale season will be shown on April 11 2010..

  • unfortunately for Anne, things were not working out. Everybody treated her like a little child because she was so innocent and didn't understand really anything about England. England wasn't ready for a German Puritan Queen.

  • At 4:46 when turned over..

    What was he doing?

  • @PansyMk "pleasing" himself.

  • @PansyMk what do you think??? lol

  • "He must put his member inside you and stir it..." I just need to know if I'm the only one who conjured up mental images of cookie dough and baking pans at that line lol.

  • this is how my marriage is...... I need find a lover and soon.

  • "Will he kill me?" Legitimate question I think. I don´t know why many people like and have a crush on Henry. Let´s face it, the only good thing about him is JRM and that´s only in the series. He was completly insane

  • Why was he such a shit to her, and Joss Stone is lovely, as happy as I was with her acting, she deserved another part

  • It wasn't her fault it was his bloody leg.

  • There is considerable debate as to how attractive or unattractive Anne was. Holbein enjoyed a reputation as one of the most accurate artists in Europe, so there is no reason to suggest that the portrait he painted was not true to life. Either Anne did not meet the criteria of what Henry considered beautiful (petiteness, though Catherine Parr was five foot nine or ten), or because she was uneducated, or simply because this was the first time Henry realized he was impotent, and could not face it.

  • Oh my god it sounds so sweet when she's talking German <3

I'm German and I think she does very well with the accent.

  • Yes, Henry is masturbating. Most contemporary accounts state that at the time Henry had become impotent.

Henry, blamed Anne. Testified that he had wet dreams, and therfore could accieve and sustain an erection, but said he was repulsed so greatly by Anne's figure he could not perform. He prefered petite women, where Anne was said to be volumptous.

Anne, was so ignorant of the relations between men and women she believed she could become pregnant just by the king kissing her.

  • I saw the portrait of her by Hoblen and there was nothing wrong with her in my opinion.

  • I agree she was quite an attractive woman. I just think he wanted another great looking woman like Jane Seymour. Because Henry Loved Jane especially since she gave him a son. There was alot of crazy things going on in Henry's mind. Still though that is not a proper way to treat your queen. I am glad he didnt exicute her. Her did have a nice life afterwards. Which I liked.

  • @MrsDanRadcliffe1 Jane Seymour was not beautiful at all--she had no chin and bulging eyes. With the exception of the young Catherine of Aragon and Catherine Howard none of Henry's wives were considered beautiful or even pretty. For the most part, though, they were intelligent (except Catherine Howard, she was an ignorant dipshit). Anne of Cleves was smart and became friends with Henry, who basically styled her as his sister.

  • @smurfnm156 Well yeah Catherine Howard was a dipshit ( I loved how you put that cuz its really true. I know none of Henrys wives were extremly beautiful. Though most people say Anne Boleyn was the most attractive despite the giant mole on her neck and sixth finger with a hint of a nail. Still though If you look at most paintings in the 16th century, Everyone had no chin and had bulging eyes or looked slightly deformed. I kind of blame the painter than the person. lol

  • @MrsDanRadcliffe1 well, they had different ideas of what was attractive. a high forehead, a gap b/n the two front teeth were both considered desirable. and the various and sundry likenesses of anne of cleves, show a moderately attractive woman. at least if you compare all of them. but she was dark, very religious, didn't know much about court life, and not what he wanted. supposedly he wanted a blond, and didn't like larger breasts. poor thing.

  • @tranurse And I think thats definitly a big difference about today. I mean the whole breast issue. Men now love big breasts. LOL Though she of course didnt really find him attractive either thats another reason why she aggreed and was so calm about divorcing Henry VIII. They did actually have a good friendship after their divorce.

  • Yeah;) thats kinda cool :D

  • @tranurse have you been caught up with season 4?

  • @MrsDanRadcliffe1 no, i actually haven't watched much of the tudors at all. i just like history a lot.

  • @tranurse you should lol its very entertaining. I am a big history buff myself. lol

  • It's funny-he says she stinks! and she says he stinks lol!

  • Why couldn't they choose a german accent? Joss Stone speaks a good accent but it doesn't sound like Anna of Kleves was really german.

  • "He must put his member inside you..."

    LOLOLOLOLOL!!!

  • I'd like to remind everyone who talks about the accent, that we're talking about medieval times here. Not that all the language used in the Tudors is accurate medieval English... but accents were different then, just like language.

Plus it only makes sense that her English wouldn't sound like today's German people speaking English... you all grew up with the media. She never heard English before she arrived in England.

  • I was just about to point this out. Not to mention, the divides we see today in countries were not quite the same in those days; many people had phantom kingdoms or provinces in other areas, which greatly altered accents.

I think Joss Stone did a great job, and my grandparents were German.

  • I think Anne of Cleves was pretty....he just didn't want to sleep with her since this marriage was unwanted. he was betrayed by cromwell and hohlbein...

  • He was scared to.....break her!

    She was still a virgin....!

  • henry was an psychopathic, egotistical, selfish, obese king... which made him an unforgettable figure in history... hence a series in his name...

  • I cannot comprehend. This is not an ugly Queen. Nor is so ungracious or unwilling. What is the problem? The problem is all in his mind...

  • Oh wow, what she has revealed certainly takes on a new take/feel with respect to the King in bed. So far, that part has always been associated with sexual connotations. She has drastically altered that with those few statements she made with that look on her face. Everyone is disappointed in one way or another. This episode smells of contentment.

  • Compare to this Video on Youtube....!

English with German accent: funny Germany #3

  • not ervery german speaks such an awful english...

  • well, the acting performance is good. the accent/german speaking part was a nice try but no one here talks like that.

  • she speak so weird its not german accent its sound like brittain bad actress

  • I know, but I'm not mad about that, since she's not really german.
