I got lost when I heard, "We're gonna have to 'redneck' this one..." , "We've gotta cable...somewhere...", and "I can't remember where this went!" - Like, whoa!
2. The key is to remove everything from the alternator while its down their. Doing that saves you from having to take off the heat shields from the exhaust manifold.. The alternator comes out through the top its a squeeze but its comes out trust me. BTW mine is a 2007.........
@LoboDelMonte1212 The alternator comes out the bottom! I have changed over 30 of these this year ! I urge people not to take any good info from this botched alternator R&R !
@honda350r dude wtf your going through all these comments why? troll? btw mazda doesnt make ford ford made some mazdas but s;od them so ford no longer owns 10% of mazda
@honda350r first of all why are you cussing at me! seems like your the on e that needs to fuck off look your no life ass going through all these comments there like a month old!
@SuperchargedMustang5 Ok, I am sorry for cursing ! Someone made a comment on my comment and my email notified me. I read your comment and responded, big deal huh? I read the WTF and thought you were cussing me out ! Get it? I am done with this .
1 Remove the negative battery post Next remove the nut from the top. Jack up the car and place a cement block underneath the front passenger tire.. And raise it a little bit more with a jack. Next get underneath the car and take out the two bottom bolts from their. REMOVE the plastic thing connected to the alternator. Next take off tall the wires. Now take off the top bolt off that holds the alternator. Finally The alternator comes out through the top.
I just did this job on my mom's car...NIGHTMARE! What I did was a combination of all these vids.First of all, you have to raise the entire car on blocks or jackstands, at least 9 or 10 inches just to give you some breathing room and remove the wheel.. I removed the motor-mount completely & jacked up the motor just so I could GET to the bolts and electrical connections underneath. With the motor raised up, the alternator can squeeze out the bottom. Once U do it, I bet you could do 1 in 45 min.
Man I totally agree they need to move the alternator I had to change one on my 04 escape it was a bitch you had to take off tire and motor mount and axle
LMAO ! I do these all the time , job complete in 45 minutes ( If the battery is charged,) . The connector broke because you have no idea what you are doing ! Oh yeah ,you are supposed to charge the battery before you run the car, not jump it with another car I will put money on that you have already replaced the alternator because you smoked that one !
This video show business as usual and you are the majority of people who should never touch a wrench until you get some know how !
@honda350r The level of ignorance you display here is amazing. I replaced my alternator with much help from this video, no issues. And unless you've replaced them in a Duratec focus, then please shut up. They're a pain. As for your charged battery statement... every alternator I have ever replaced, I never recharged the battery, and still these alternators are good. Your logic sucks. Go rice your Honda.
@1991JeepMan The level of ignorance you display here is amazing!! I do these weekly . I have been in the business for 30 years of alternators and starters only. I speak the truth and if you got help for this moron ,that speaks volumes about your mental capacity ! Have a nice life.
@honda350r Then your buisness truly lacks in its capacity for overall respect. A true professional, if anything, would have pointed out mistakes and provided the correct information. Much like ETCG does. You jump in here and run your mouth about 'know how' and error. Tell you what... if the alternator I just did today on a friend's car goes out, I'll send you an apology. Otherwise, I've spoken my point, and will finish with saying I don't think you're a 30 year professional. Have a good one.
@1991JeepMan I have been dealing with the public for 30 years and youtube has finally shown me the light to what happens to my products when I am not involved ! This video you are so proud of is horrifying to me ! I have run a respectful business rebuilding alternator and starterssince 1982 and I am well know in my community as the go to guy! Anyone who charges their battery with an alternator is just plain ignorant ! It is not the alternators job to charge the battery!
@honda350r Then whoever taught you your profession was lacking. It is common knowledge what the purpose of the alternator is. Hell, go to google, and type in "what does the alternator do", and EVERY page confirms it "charges the battery". Nearly every alternator I've done involved a low charge battery. After the swap, I'd jump it or if there was enough juice just start it, and everything was fine EVERY time. If the alternator is not supposed to charge the battery, then what is? The wheels?
@honda350r Ok,time for school .The alternators job is to provide power for the vehicles fuel pump, ign lights air, heater ect..The reason the battery goes dead is because the vehicles power plant failed and now the vehicle runs off the battery instead of the alternator ! Alts are sized according the the cars electrical demand, nothing more! A dead battery kicks the crap out of the alt by putting the alt in 100% duty cycle, not good! You and most mechanics DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS !!
@honda350r In regards to your ATV comment, then there lies my ignorance. I despise Honda's, so I did not know what a 350r was. I'll admit my mistake there.
@honda350r Ok, so then by your logic, the battery just sits after cranking over the engine, or running accesories, etc. Then, when the car is started, the alternator takes over, and the battery randomly recharges itself. PLUS, in a below post, you said "It is not the alternators job to charge the battery! ", yet here you just said a dead battery puts 100% load on the alternator. Why? Because the alternator charges the battery.
@1991JeepMan Right , the alt will charge a dead battery and possibly kill the alt! Don't do that to your alt if you can avoid it ! I see them all the time burned up because of this practice you preach ! it is ok to learn something new ,open your mind and listen to what I say, as it is the truth! funny thing is I am working on a 04 Focus today and changing the alt. The guy told me he changed the alt 6 month ago and said it took him 6 hours to do , it was a auto parts alt.
@honda350r Ok, I see where this is going. I understand now. Just because the alternator can charge the battery, doesn't mean it can always handle it, especially with cheaper "remans" (Duralast comes to mind). In that case, then I owe an apology, and I am sorry. I was assuming you were trying to imply something different, and I had an egghead moment. I do apologize, and deserve any jeers that follow.
@1991JeepMan You are a true man ! Sorry ,I am bad at getting my point across with text. I educate people everyday and I am thanked for the new knowledge I give people for the proper understanding of a alternator system in every car . Have a good one .
@honda350r Irregardless of how drawn out the battery is, when it needs charged it demands the same load from the alternator. There is no special switch that says "Hey, Im only 43.5% low on juice, fill me accordingly." No. The load is the same until the battery reaches it's full charge. Look it up. SO, once again, I will say that I do not think you're a true professional. And I do not "pick" guys to mess with. I call people out on lacking information.
@1991JeepMan And if you want to keep this going, so be it. Act like a troll child, and fight over youtube. I'm above that, and refuse to acknowledge this ignorance anymore. So, again I say have a good one. To each his own.
@1991JeepMan You my friend are fucking clueless!! The load on the unit is huge because the voltage regulator will sense low voltage ! I bet you think the the voltage regulator is only to not over charge the battery, right? The regulator tell the alternator what to do and if the battery is low it will put the alt to work and over work the system. I will go up against anyone on this and will put my money where my mouth is ! Bring it on !
I'm going to have to take a shot at changing my 2007 Focus alternator in the next few days. I'll take some video so I can remember how everything goes back together. If push comes to shove, I take a sawzall and cut the alternator out of there.
What year was this Focus? I have an '07 with what I am guessing is the 2.0 Duratec engine. Basically a tight as crap design. But the engines seem similiar (the videos and mine). Did you have to jack the engine or remove it's mounts to get clearance? I desperately need to get this job done, and honestly have no idea where to start. I would appreciate any feedback! Thanks!
@1991JeepMan Jack the car up, remove front passenger wheel, remove all plastic crap prohibiting access to the belt. Remove silver exhaust heat shield above the exhaust manifold. Grab a beer or cold drink of choice, and some headache meds. By the way this is an 06.
@justhes Thank you so much. So no motor mount removal or anything? And by plastic junk, I imagine you're referring to the duct work connected to the alternator. This helps so much. Thanks again. I gotta remember to pick up a six pack prior to the job.
@1991JeepMan The plastic crap on the alternator and plastic crap hiding belts. I personally removed that long plastic thing from the alternator, might actually make it last longer.
Great video, Thanks for sharing. I have that same car and just recently had to change the alternator. The design is horrible, everything is so hard to get to. It is a lot easier to get out the alternator from underneath. You have to remove the passenger side engine mount and remove the long bolt from the back mount, then move the engine forward and up for about 2 inches. It takes about 2 hours one you get the feel of it.
I have a 06 and cant for the life of me see where or how to relieve the tension on the belt. I see a pulley that looks or seems to be the tension but when you turn it clock wise nothing happens, nothing is released it just keeps threading out. It doesn't seem like its doing anything. I really wished you had shown what to do from the beginning if you have more of this video that would be great since this video shows the alternator already removed.
next time , take off your pside front wheel jack car up , take off the wheel well cover and do job from underneath. alot easer.
