As an active duty Army Soldier of the United States, I just want to say that I appreciate you Ellen for supporting what we are doing out here. I hope that one day I can meet you and shake your hand and thank you for being a supporter of not only who we are as a community but also as a soldier who find encouragement and pride in protecting you and the people of the United States.

I once saw a poster showing the coffins of several soldiers with American flags drape over them. The caption read, "Now you show me which one was gay." Even while being denied the SAME rights as most other Americans they still stand up for, fight for, and die for our country and our rights. You think about that next time you're about to say they don't deserve to get married or serve.

@hallfamilysince1990 Maybe because Bill wanted Gays to serve openly in the military but there was more hostility towards gays in the early 90s than there is now, so he was forced to compromise with DADT. If you'd were more interested in knowing anything about the law than you were about bashing Pelosi you would know that...who's the silly one now?

@cradle177 Look I'm not looking to fight or piss people off. My one and only point is that is was a democrat that signed that bill. I didn't state Bill was for or against it. I think it's great that Gays can be open now. Peoples sexual oriantation has nothing to do weather or not they can perform a job. The way Pelosi stated that it was the Democrats that signed this new bill and implied it was the Republicans that signed the DADT policy pissed me off. So chill.

@hallfamilysince1990 You realize DADT was a better law then what we had previous to that right? Do your homework. Clinton implemented that law so that soldiers that were gay could at least serve as long as they didn't say they were in the military. Of course its not a good enough law at the least but a large portion of the GLBT community in the early 90s celebrated this step forward.

You are either now trying to step back after recognizing how naive you were to make such a statement or you just can't stand to be wrong.

@VoteYou , I don't think so. I think discharges went up under DADT, until the Iraq war. DADT had a nice title, but "Ask" and "Tell" did not have their usual meanings. Intercepting private emails was not considered "Asking", and being legally married could be considered "Telling".

Strictly speaking, DADT was not a change to the law, which still banned LGB people from service. It was just a policy describing how it would be enforced. You mentioned "GLBT". This change doesn't include "T".

@rg0057 The "T" is part of the gay community and they have a voice, an opinion that unites with the GLBT as a whole. You mention the aftermath of DADT. I never said it was good so of course everyone realized what it really meant AFTER it was passed. If you read my 2 previous post then you will see I am talking about how DADT was passed and supported by a lot in the GLBT, yes T also, they exist, they are among us and they discuss politics with us.
