can you help me, i am wondeering if i can connect an external mixer and cdj's to use traktor if i would be running traktor pro and not traktor scratch, also if i am running microsoft windows ?
ive got the same setup, and was wandering...whats the point in using traktor????? you cant use any effects on traktor unless your using the touch pad on the mac!! all traktor is used for in this instance is for sync (match bpm) and store all your tracks in playlists?? i think its best to leave the laptop out of it and just use mp3 sticks..............................any comments????

Back in traktor, in audio routing i can choose 2 both cdj channels which are used for channel a (iguess this is why this deck works) but there are no other selections to choose from for channel b.
Does the mixer have to work with a certain program i.e TRAKTOR, or does the mixer just do simple stuff like volume and fading of the sound that is coming through it? I hope that makes sense. please answer thank you.
if you then connected a pair of cdj 900 or cdj 2000 to your macbook after doing this would it still work. or would you have to re configure everything including the midi setup??

@hercules1924 If your running PC like myself you have to download a program called ASIO4All which enables you to access all your sound cards for output. You must select both CDJ 400s and in turn when going to output settings in Traktor you can select the two outputs for the two decks.
cand this be done with any pioneer CDJ's? because the problem i have is that i dont want to take my Traktor S4 controller to clubs the whole time whereas its easier just to take my mac with my music. the other question i have is when you have all of this connected up do you have to beat match or can you use the SYNC mode from the traktor pro?

This is pretty basic stuff TBH - If you don't know how to connect cables you may be in the wrong job lol. USB 2.0 from each CDJ to the macbook to act as deck controllers in traktor pro. An RCA from each CDJ to a sperate channel on the DJM 800 - That's it, simple!!

I'm using a pioneer cdj 350+djm 350+macbook and everything is ok, except for the fact that i didnt find where can i fix the way to search my tracks...Its jumping the tracks by 4 ou 6 tracks when i scroll the select button...If i use the mouse, no prblem: i can choose any track...But, if i use the search button on the cdj, it jumps!!!!

I just spent all my money on this and can't even get it to work.. I've got a cdj 350s so what do I do? I've made all the correct connections as far as wires and all that but it makes no noise o traktor pro and my cdj player doesn't effect whats happening on traktor pro.
@catjiwe - I'd think that's because just as technology improves with the later OSX versions, the audio midi setup will tweak and change as well - some call it progress lol
Works also in snow leopard, just make a new Aggregated Audio Device in audi midi setup and press the plus button at the bottom and configure the 2 cdj400 players in it.

I'm still using the software as virtual decks, however, the internal mixer is disabled in favour of the 'external' mixer option, which I use the DJM800

When I bought the 400's they were around £750/800 from memory - you can pick them up for £550 now New, cheaper 2nd hand of course. The Pioneer CDJ350 has now superceeded the CDJ400 though.
That cost was per CDJ - so you could pick 2 up for around £1000
I can't say whether or not the 350 is better than the 400 as I haven't used the 350, however it does come with rekorabox and is also a MIDI controller as well as a CDJ - I would hazard a guess it would be better because technology moves forwards and on ........

excellent video... So, i have a djm 800 and 2x cdj 1000 with time code cds and an audio 8 sound card.. Can i cue up tracks in my headphones as you would just playing cds? also do you know if there is midi driver software for mapping the djm to traktor so i have full use over the controls on my djm?
you should be able to cue up in your headphones ok.
There won't be any mapping fr the DJM as it hasn't the abilty to act as a controller - If you want a combined mixer/controller you need to be looking at the Allen & Heath X-Zone 3d or 4D

You can't just hook up a DJM800 to control traktor and if your using CDJ800's and timecoded CDs then you would need the Audio 8 as the 800's don't contain a soundcard

How would you expect to do that? The DJM400 is a 2 channel Mixer, it's not a MIDI controller nor does contain a soundcard. You may be getting confused with the Allen & Heath range such as the XZone 3D/4D etc - They're integrated mixers/controllers

Yes mate the FX (chained or single) in Traktor are mappable to most MIDI controllers - mine are by defalt mapped to the 3 effexts buttons on the CDJ400
hey i have a problem...when i open my midi audio settings, i make the aggrigate device with both cdjs ticked.......but for starters my menu looks nothing like yours. and when im in traktor it only sees output 2 and 3?????? 0 and 1 is non existant :(
i had to go into the midi options in traktor and change the midi port of the second cdj (cause they were both on the same port) and then i just had to copy the midi map to the other cdj :)

Yes mate - quite simply if you're trying to run the 1000's as MIDI controllers with Traktor Pro it's never gonna happen because the 1000's are not MIDI controllers. In order to use them you'll have to be using Traktor Scratch Pro and using Timecoded CDs

Vestax Spin is a really good solid controller to start with first out, especially if you're using the apple DJAY program - absolutely perfect for entry level mate
did u need to download mapping files to allow the cdj's buttons to be mapped to the functions on traktor? or does it do it automatically when u select 'cdj400' in the initial setup of traktor?
You need to ensure the firmware is up to date on the 400's - but apart from that No - The 400's are auromatically mapped either in MIDI or HID (depending on what version of traktor you are using)
No you can't use the preloaded Pioneer effects on the CDJ - But you can chain three Traktor effects together and map those to the CDJ effects buttons - which gives you a much wider selection

I have the same set up you have but with a macbook.I have followed you instructions. Sound comes through both faders on the DJM 800 however the cdj 400's don't control the the music as midi conrtollers. Nothing happens. CAN SOMEONE HELP. Im using Traktor Pro 1.2.
You've answered yur own question mate - if you look at previous questions it would have saved you the post lol - you're using Traktor pro 1.2 - there is no MIDI support like in my video anymore (the video is version 1.1.2). Traktor 1.2 and above is now HID support for the CDJ400's and it's crap, hence I still use 1.1.2
quick question: so you don't need any audio interface when using the cdj: s with the 800 mixer as midi controllers? but if I would like to use timecontrol in traktor I need the audio 4/audio 8 dj interface connected to the mixer?
Ok so i solved the problem really easily. i started Traktor forst than pressed PC mode and that is not how it works. remember to first press PC mode people than open traktor.
BUT now i have other Problem. My Players Only control A channel ... and none are controlling B channel so how do i configure them to do that ?
ill take some tiime and try to do that myself but apriciate if somebody has a solution
Hey simon, got a question. Im planning to get cdj 400's and I was wondering... i have traktor pro, macbook pro and the kontrol X1. Now I know im going to need more than 2 USB hubs. So my question is, can I still have both the cdj 400 and the kontrol x1 to use?... I will need a powered USB hub as well right?... thanks.
First of all, yes you would need a USB hub, but secondly I can't understand why you would need to use both CDJ's AND the X1 together in the same configuration???????
The X1 will be used for browsing, effects, and of course other uses. The X1 was designed to be used with either TT's or cdj's so you can control Traktor without going to your laptop to do things... what im saying is that i can still use the X1 with the cdj 400 with the issue being the USB hubs, cause the mac only has 2...

In this question the answer is 'No' - simply because you are using the internal Traktor Mixer.

I'm still using the software as virtual decks, however, the internal mixer is disabled in favour of the 'external' mixer option, which I use the DJM800

I'm not sure I understand your question, without the Traktor 'software' it's quite clearly a normal set of 2 x CDJ's and a Mixer!

When I bought the 400's they were around £750/800 from memory - you can pick them up for £550 now New, cheaper 2nd hand of course. The Pioneer CDJ350 has now superceeded the CDJ400 though.

That cost was per CDJ - so you could pick 2 up for around £1000
I can't say whether or not the 350 is better than the 400 as I haven't used the 350, however it does come with rekorabox and is also a MIDI controller as well as a CDJ - I would hazard a guess it would be better because technology moves forwards and on ........

Just a USB - Make sure the CDJ you're using has an internal soundcard though, otherwise it aint gonna work!

excellent video... So, i have a djm 800 and 2x cdj 1000 with time code cds and an audio 8 sound card.. Can i cue up tracks in my headphones as you would just playing cds? also do you know if there is midi driver software for mapping the djm to traktor so i have full use over the controls on my djm?

you should be able to cue up in your headphones ok.
There won't be any mapping fr the DJM as it hasn't the abilty to act as a controller - If you want a combined mixer/controller you need to be looking at the Allen & Heath X-Zone 3d or 4D

I have one Pioneer DJM5000 and a DN-HC4500...
The djm5000 only have 3 (stereo)(asio) soundcardoutputs and i would realy like to use 4 decks...
The DN-HC-4500 have 2 (stereo) (asio) soundcardoutputs.
do you know if i can combine the soundcards just like you did on the CDj400's?
or does the soundcards have to be the same to be able to combine the soundcards in Audio midi setup?

Which 800 - DJM800 or CDJ800
You can't just hook up a DJM800 to control traktor and if your using CDJ800's and timecoded CDs then you would need the Audio 8 as the 800's don't contain a soundcard

No because they are Not MIDI controllers - The only Pioneer CDJs you can use as a MIDI controllers are:
CDJ 350
CDJ 400
CDJ 850
CDJ 900
CDJ 2000

How would you expect to do that? The DJM400 is a 2 channel Mixer, it's not a MIDI controller nor does contain a soundcard. You may be getting confused with the Allen & Heath range such as the XZone 3D/4D etc - They're integrated mixers/controllers

my both cdj's 400 are controling just one side (A) of the software
the sound comes out in one channel in the mixer when i'm playing with both decks!!

Yes mate the FX (chained or single) in Traktor are mappable to most MIDI controllers - mine are by defalt mapped to the 3 effexts buttons on the CDJ400

Yes should work on a normal pc laptop - the set up will be different, but traktor pro is designed to work with both mac & pc

hey i have a problem...when i open my midi audio settings, i make the aggrigate device with both cdjs ticked.......but for starters my menu looks nothing like yours. and when im in traktor it only sees output 2 and 3?????? 0 and 1 is non existant :(

nope but i have fixed it now
i had to go into the midi options in traktor and change the midi port of the second cdj (cause they were both on the same port) and then i just had to copy the midi map to the other cdj :)

Yes mate - quite simply if you're trying to run the 1000's as MIDI controllers with Traktor Pro it's never gonna happen because the 1000's are not MIDI controllers. In order to use them you'll have to be using Traktor Scratch Pro and using Timecoded CDs

Vestax Spin is a really good solid controller to start with first out, especially if you're using the apple DJAY program - absolutely perfect for entry level mate

did u need to download mapping files to allow the cdj's buttons to be mapped to the functions on traktor? or does it do it automatically when u select 'cdj400' in the initial setup of traktor?

You need to ensure the firmware is up to date on the 400's - but apart from that No - The 400's are auromatically mapped either in MIDI or HID (depending on what version of traktor you are using)

No you can't use the preloaded Pioneer effects on the CDJ - But you can chain three Traktor effects together and map those to the CDJ effects buttons - which gives you a much wider selection

I have the same set up you have but with a macbook.I have followed you instructions. Sound comes through both faders on the DJM 800 however the cdj 400's don't control the the music as midi conrtollers. Nothing happens. CAN SOMEONE HELP. Im using Traktor Pro 1.2.

You've answered yur own question mate - if you look at previous questions it would have saved you the post lol - you're using Traktor pro 1.2 - there is no MIDI support like in my video anymore (the video is version 1.1.2). Traktor 1.2 and above is now HID support for the CDJ400's and it's crap, hence I still use 1.1.2

i use Windows XP and i have T pro 1.1.2
i have all connected and i have ASIO on. i can direct the sound via mixer ! but the CD players DO not respont at ALL!!
i have them on output but do i have to do something in the windows ?
problem is None of the payers seem to be responding to the players.
players are v.133

Ok so i solved the problem really easily. i started Traktor forst than pressed PC mode and that is not how it works. remember to first press PC mode people than open traktor.
BUT now i have other Problem. My Players Only control A channel ... and none are controlling B channel so how do i configure them to do that ?
ill take some tiime and try to do that myself but apriciate if somebody has a solution

Hey simon, got a question. Im planning to get cdj 400's and I was wondering... i have traktor pro, macbook pro and the kontrol X1. Now I know im going to need more than 2 USB hubs. So my question is, can I still have both the cdj 400 and the kontrol x1 to use?... I will need a powered USB hub as well right?... thanks.

First of all, yes you would need a USB hub, but secondly I can't understand why you would need to use both CDJ's AND the X1 together in the same configuration???????

The X1 will be used for browsing, effects, and of course other uses. The X1 was designed to be used with either TT's or cdj's so you can control Traktor without going to your laptop to do things... what im saying is that i can still use the X1 with the cdj 400 with the issue being the USB hubs, cause the mac only has 2...
