It's a very fine film, so far as films go. Criticisms that it was made to make money are silly: all films are made to make money - they're essentially business investments. If the history is twisted somewhat - so is history in nearly all film, particularly American ones. Historical figures should be judged by the time and circumstances in which they lived, not ours. The Great Khan was no better and certainly no worse than other mighty conquerors throughout history.

Those are questionable statistics. Otherwise, they would have never won those battles. They were mostly cavalry archers. As as child, Temujin killed his own brother with a bow over a trivial incident.
as for horse archers - there is only 4% chance to make sufficient damage to lightly armored person by arrow and less than 1% to make any damage to heavily armored knight. Composite bow which used by altaic nomads is the most powerful but can be used only by infantry but not horsemen because it is very big and heavy - about 2 meters long. Nomadic horsemen used small bows which can be used only against poor equiped militia, light infantry and light cavalry but not against armored warriors.

Mongol strengths were their mobility in battle, tactics in intimidating, and lightning speed. The 10, 100, 1000, 10000 squads were unheard of in military ingenuity as they can be broken off in pieces following squad leaders for specific roles or combined to form fronts. They simply did not stay still as this clip also showed to await a massive army.

It's a very fine film, so far as films go. Criticisms that it was made to make money are silly: all films are made to make money - they're essentially business investments. If the history is twisted somewhat - so is history in nearly all film, particularly American ones. Historical figures should be judged by the time and circumstances in which they lived, not ours. The Great Khan was no better and certainly no worse than other mighty conquerors throughout history.

as for horse archers - there is only 4% chance to make sufficient damage to lightly armored person by arrow and less than 1% to make any damage to heavily armored knight. Composite bow which used by altaic nomads is the most powerful but can be used only by infantry but not horsemen because it is very big and heavy - about 2 meters long. Nomadic horsemen used small bows which can be used only against poor equiped militia, light infantry and light cavalry but not against armored warriors.

The little I of know of Mongolian history seems almost supernatural. A small tribe from Central Asia becomes in one man's lifetime a super power, humbling ever army it ever met and their enemies weren't pushovers either. The turks who live in Turkey is a huge mix of European Roman and the back then Seljuk Turks who were the real Turkish nomads. Mongol strengths were their mobility in battle, tactics in intimidating, and lightning speed. The 10, 100, 1000, 10000 squads were unheard of in military ingenuity as they can be broken off in pieces following squad leaders for specific roles or combined to form fronts. They simply did not stay still as this clip also showed to await a massive army.
