The general generally not worth their cost at high level. If you are a level 10 leadership general and you get a 5000 battle: You are as good as death.

Steam is a bitch. Try going offline. Starting the game (in offline mode). Then quit. Close Steam. Restart Steam and then select Go online. It may help.
