I got a pair of these quite a while back (like 2003 or thereabouts), but never ground on anything with them. Even if you simply used them for walking or hiking, the older ones were very, very tough shoes. Most of the sneakers I had tried before Soap Shoes fell apart within a year or so. The early Soap Shoes were extremely well-built and could last for years. My new go-to shoes are a pair of New Balance running shoes and a couple pairs of Red Wing boots. The latter are nigh-indestructible.

Looking at the landings, I'd have to conclude that Soap Shoes are much harsher on the ankles than inline skates.

First off, there's no support to prevent rolling the ankles.

And second, when you land you (obviously) stop dead on the spot rather than rolling away.

I really don't see the point of Soap Shoes. If you're on roller blades then fair enough, but if you're going around in essentially trainers, you might as well just do away with the soap and take up free-running.

Well, I'd agree if it was in fact the case that people wear them as normal shoes (where Blades would not be appropriate), and then have the option of some fun.

IF on the other hand, they purposely choose to wear these instead of blades, with the intention of going out 'soaping' (or whatever the correct vernacular is), that is a different matter.
