I would like to think that Ben and the band would have been very humbled by the fact that the crowd was singing along with him. Gavin DeGraw has let the crowds sing entire songs for him live before. It's very humbling for many artists, The Ataris included. I even asked Kris once when I met him this past February... so you can't really argue on that one.

if you can't hear him singing but you can the crowd then i suggest you get new speakers, i can hear him clearly enough and i think the crowd adds to the song if anything, adds a bit of atmosphere to it.

I think it's pretty absurd to think, assume or imply that anyone would expect an audience to be completely quiet. There's no disputing the fact that the audience was either completely outsinging him or your camera's audio is super sensitive. Or perhaps your seat was fantastic for visual recording but not the best for audio recording. Either way, it's obvious that the audience overpowers and deflects from the entire performance. Why be offended by something you couldn't control?
