  • how can I forget U...amazing song

  • truly lovely

    magical

    timeless

  • AND THEY STILL ARE AMAZING!

  • REMEMBER WHEN U2 WAS GOOD?

  • i stole my brothers walkman and walked about for hours( smoking some weed) listening to this album..loved it then and love it now.

  • I think this song and / or video should be shipped up in space on like the space station so when aliens come here to visit or for coffee, they'll listen to this song and watch this video up there and say... (this is not a direct quite) "Gosh, those humans sure do screw up a lot of things, but this U2 stuff is all aces"... So, if I could somehow work that out, I think I'd be pretty happy.

  • All of U2 is magical but I think Achtung was one of the best and most innovated/original albums of all time by any artist.

  • I think some time in the future this song and video will be recognized as U2's most accomplished work. Its just a brilliant song and video. I guess that they used some of the footage they took for 'New Years Day' in it in places, its around the same era. They needed snow and lots of it for that video. I agree with @MrSoulwaxer's comment, it is spine tingling.

  • This is the best U2 song makes my spine tingle everytime

  • Magic. :-)

  • were the snow bound bits of this mv the ' leftover ' footages of their old number , ' new years day ' a few years back , haha .

  • the best u2 song everrrr

  • this is my one of my many favourite u2 songs,as this is my personal favourite u2 song of all time.

  • U2 = TIMELESS MUSIC!! stays wonderful!!!!!

  • magnificent

  • Bem..esta é a mais bela e bem conseguida música tocada pelos U2 …Não a consigo esquecer e não tenho mais nada a acrescentar ...

Well...this is the most beautiful and well accomplished music ever performed by U2… I cannot forget it and I ‘have not really more to say…

  • Very evocative song! Beautiful album!

  • As a younger man I loved listening to this song whenever I would drive into a new city. I still do, beautiful piece of music.

  • the best album of U2,the best song........

  • @pakitovillanueva i agree

  • This song is simply genius. It really is. The major and minor chords and the lyrics come together for form a one in a miilion song

  • A very powerful, haunting album. It still moves me many years later. Attended this concert in Philadelphia, Pa (1985). Memorable performance.

  • There's probably 3-4 great rock songs in this one great rock song

  • yo tampoco lo voy a hacer...

  • creo que hoy no duermo...

  • sleepless in baires, la canción perfecta para eso....

  • unforgetable fire and unforgetable song

  • @goleks09

  • I

What this song gives me mixed feelings harsh feelings to others very raw song... I try to be optimistic about it I like to decipher the true meanings of what the artists thoughts were on his mind and heart and soul at the time Bono was writing the song among the time and place...... I reverse the Negative to a positive... these words speak out to me boldly... all the other words don't...

    Stay in this time

    Stay ...

Ever after, this love in time

  • i love it...

  • greatest U2 song ever!!!

  • Do not worry. Good times will come. It cannot be continuous. A sort of waive function. Maybe 20 years later. New Gold age!

  • Most music nowadays is UTTER wank. This is pure class and timeless. How I long for some modern group to come up to U2's 80's standard or The Smiths or New Order.

  • @violator9

you right about that one mate,as most bands these days play utter crap, and i prefer some bands like u2 and also some of the old rock bands from the 1980's,as they dont have bands like those ones these days,as the old bands are the best.

  • @buffy1657 agree Buffy mate

  • @violator9 u realise that that's what every generation says about their music..really now

  • @fataxel LOL !! - do you think in next decade, fans of one direction and jls will honestly recall their music, style or substance (if any) in any shape or form ? I think not - anyone else agree?

  • @violator9 maybe they will,or maybe music will catch many more shapes ,until there will not be any model or style to regard upon as the "BEST ^_^" And?? Is this bad? Is diversity bad? Is allowing one to listen and compose whatever he/she wants bad? Is "evolution" bad? Well if it is,try changing it or go with it..the worst thing to do is lament and retreat in the music you associate with (maybe) the most beautiful years of your life .

  • @violator9 If your kid falls in love ,and the music that he dances his girl to is Rhianna/Skrillex/,maybe he will state the same about nowadays music...And BTW, i will recall Radiohead, Massive Attack, Muse ,Wolfmother, The Mars Volta, and many many more

  • Nevermind.....that's definitely Minneapolis at about 3:20.

  • ARe you sure? It looks like Boston's skyline at about 1:10. Just wondering.

  • Best song / video ever in the history of the world and outer planets (including alien planets beyond our solar system.)

  • and if the mountain should crumble of disapear in sea, stay dis time stay to this time.

  • amo este tema

  • unforgettable song

  • This video was shot in and around Minneapolis.

  • Bands now are shit by comparison compared to this great music and era and so are the songs they write. Creative song writing has gradually been replaced by over commercialised shite. Music is on a downward spiral I am afraid.

  • @TheGreatPerahia that or every thing that is praised to high heaven by the music press these days is dubstep/rhytmic electronic beat shite which is just boring, soulless hipster shite.

  • I tire of almost all others except this, it's timeless.

  • One of my ALLTIME faves of these guys. Definately in the TOP five of their songs. Beautiful song...video is awesome

  • The unforgettable band.

  • When U2 were actually good! Not really a fan of anything they've done since The Joshua Tree.

  • @josssmith have to agree with you but Achtung Baby was their zenith.

  • @violator9 Negative that was their worst!!

  • so you mean their other songs are even better than this masterpiece...

  • This is the best song of U2 for me.

  • my fav u2 song without doubt sheer poetry

  • Amazing atmosphere.

  • nunou2pt, thank's for this song, i think is the bst song that u2 gave for the world with god's help, long life for bono, the edge, larry mullen jr and adam clayton and of course for you for share this song.

  • My favourite U2 song, love the video too.

  • The Unforgetable Fire and New Years Day are my favorite U2 songs of all time... Simply amazing songs that still give me chills! <3

  • one of my all time favorite songs brings back many memories just one of the best songs ever by U2. :-)

  • best song in the fucking world

  • the ending iz sad

  • (were making, sorry) anyway, presenting the song of the album...

  • This is the album that made knew the band around the word. This, the second single of the album, with the name of the album, 1984.

When they were make the recordings of the album, Bono went to one exposition made in Dublin, that was about the damage of the use of drugs in people and adolescents.....

the name of that expo was: The Unforgettable Fire....

  • when i hear this song i remember the times driving home from the city at night. i was on my own for the first time making my way in the world. i remember the freedom i felt being able to see the scenes i grew up with flashing by, but in a different perspective, away from my parents, smoking a joint. Everything cast in earths shadow with countless man made specks of light darting the scenery as far as the eye could see. Gave me chills

  • Silence please . . . the best song is playing . . .

  • I'm not a U2 fan, but this song stuck in my head for weeks after hearing it in the pub and I thought - "thats brilliant".

  • This is my favorite song of all time. This one touches the heart. I was 17 when it came out. Love the snow part

  • Best song ever by U2.

  • Mike Ramos loves Bono's hair.

  • I just love this song!

  • tune, i remember it well, memories,

  • im playing this song for aussie day jan 24

  • sem dúvida, uma das melhores bandas de sempre e esta é uma das suas melhores músicas..

  • Para lo malos que son hicieron una obra maestra. simplemente perfecto.

  • Comment removed

  • @stellarshore I agree with you about U2. They take you to another time and place. POWERFUL STUFF!

  • Beautiful, moving music. It's easy to forget what a wonderful these guys have been with all lame electronic/indie rock acts who imitate their sound.

  • love this song! one of my favs!

  • In my personal view this is one of their best songs, but then they have done many good songs. But this is my personal favourite.

  • like if you think that U2 is one of the greatest rock bands of all time:)

  • @blueberryz015

Its not the question "Are they one of the best bands of all time".... The Question is "Are they the best bend ever?"

  • The song starts off with the image of the twin towers, irony LOL!

  • @alliwanttosay1 the city footage is tokyo.

  • I just found out a friend of mine had passed. For whatever reason, this was the first song I thought of. Thank you, U2. Your music is helping me cope.

  • @sugarbean13 Sorry to hear of your friend's passing! For some reason certain parts of this video have always reminded me of passing on to the other side. Like when Edge is walking down the snow covered road . It seems very symbolic to me of what it may be like for some reason.

  • @sugarbean13 ehhhhh

  • this is my favorite song of U2...by far...

  • Dang it... just one more bit of information I left out of the (4 of 4) entry below. When I got to 3rd base, The Unforgettable Fire was playing (the whole album/tape got a nice workout). Again... - ahhh... sweet memories of my innocent high school days (remember, this was before it was 'en vogue' to acquire assault rifles to go shoot your fellow students and/or teachers if your life sucked). And I actually thought we were going to hell for drinking a couple of lukewarm beers. :-)

  • ATTN: Due to the standard 500 character limit, I wrote about 1700 characters worth of text that I had to break into 4 parts, which you'll see below. In order for it to make sense, please go to the 4th entry below this entry and read each entry in succession but read 'upward'. Thanks.

  • (4 of 4) continued from below/above...

Memorable sidenote: I remember 'getting to 3rd base' with my GF, Christmas 1984 under the Christmas tree while my parents 'trusted me to hold down the fort' while they went to a 3-hour company Christmas party... oh, what a magical and innocent time that truly was!

  • @jmaesrocne Top man!!

  • (3 of 4) continued from below/above...

And then Rattle & Hum happened and the U2 I once 'knew' would never be the same again. It was a lot like seeing your child hit puberty, knowing they'd never be the sweet baby/child they once were. Sad... but change will always happen - for good, bad or indifferent. continued...

  • (2 of 4) continued from below/above...

So, I simply said to her, "I love you"... to which she replied, "I love you, too (U2)". A-HA! Gotcha. :-) Corny, but funny (at least in 19 hundred and 85). PS - In my honest opinion, The Unforgettable Fire album completed their 'old and best stuff' phase. The Joshua Tree was nearly perfect & made U2 an almost household name (and finally got them fully paid for all their years of hard work). continued...

  • Funny & true story. But first, a little history...

I loved U2 in the 80's just like you guys. I remember hearing Sunday Bloody S. & then buying 'War' on cassette & trying my best to either wear out the tape itself or the cassette deck. Then, I bought Boy & October at my local Turtle's Records & I've been a fan ever since.

That was 1982-ish. In 1985, my then girlfriend said U2 sucked (she liked Madonna, etc). I said I could prove she'd eventually LOVE U2. She said 'Never'. So... continued

  • una de mis canciones favoritas de u2 de los 80´s..

  • my favourite video !!! when I was a child, I watched it (VHS!!!!) more than two or three times per day before i went to school every day...

  • Love the song. Hate the mullet.

  • @miroslavstricevic Lol!!!! Sorry u can't decode but I reely don't giva crapper!!! :)

    Cheerz wey da beerz!!!!

  • old u2...just like old madonna

  • Comment removed

  • Their best song, and it's still boring.

  • for me personally this is the top of the tree for u2. they've never bettered their 80s stuff. its a puzzle as to why this track is never heard on radio. had this on vinyl and wore it out.

brings back so many memories like ian botham haircuts, jeans cut at the knee, my first car in which I played this to death on cassette! ahh.................

  • love it!!!!!!!!

  • THE BEST BAND EVER!!!

  • that skyline.... which city is that from?

  • Impossível classificar a melhor musica do U2! São todas incomparáveis.

  • Best song ever of U2!

  • My first U2 memory. I was bulied into listening to U2 way back in 85. My first purchase was "Wide Awake". I spent 2 years listening to Boy, October, at al, on my walkman. Then rumour of a new album came alone. Joshua entered my life and I never looked back. U2 are my generation.

  • this is certainly the best of U2 . Couldn't go on an island without this one ...thanx

  • This song is unforgettable.

  • What can I say about this song, poetry - just amazing! So many incredible lines -- "I'm only asking but I, I think you know..." I wrote these lyrics on a card and gave it to my ex when we broke up. I didn't have to write anything else, the lyrics said everything for me. And I became a U2 fan forever!

  • U2's best song ! Thumbs up if you agree..

  • @tcsonline Definitely!

  • volledig akkoord! supersong

  • @tcsonline agreed! Never Got tired, listening this Album=after got 'Boy+War';In this Album,Bono Said he Finally, got His voice ''In Tune+Opened'',for Him:: Easier to Sing LIVE,in Those Huge Concerts;Towards Rattle And Hum(- Joshua Tree Album finished =,Just Before Phil Joanou Directed this Brilliant Movie) Thanks for Original Video, was just finishing HighSchool; -84,When saw this!!

  • "And if the mountain should crumble

    Or disappear into the sea

Not a tear, no not I"

One of my favorite U2 songs...Such Nostalgia listening to this <33

  • 19 people listened to RATT during the '80s.

  • @EconAtheist No, 19 people were scared off by Bono's mullet!

  • The mountain will not crumble or disappear!

  • U2.... in the powerhouse of their core talent !!!!

  • This song made, makes and will always make me cry..And I have no idea why, maybe because it's just su beautifull..

  • good music i"m love

  • This is my faaaaaaaaavorite U2 song ever! but they do have some classic recent music too. Can't argue that.

  • estos irlandeces, siempre tristes

(this Irish ppl, sad-faced ones, every single one of them)

  • Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois produced this incredible album. Maybe they'll hook up for another in the future <3

  • Please take me away....from here....

  • Put these lyrics on my grave stone....love it..

  • This is a song for nagasaki and hiroshima. dou you know?

  • They were much much better back then, no doubt about it...

  • bono looked great during this period

  • 0:09 remember the pbs commercial sound?

  • I loved this album I remember it coming out in 1984, I loved this group so much with having already bought Boy, October and War and then they brought THIS out! With my other favourite song Pride (In The Name Of Love) ... a knockout album, preceeded the unbeatable legend that is the Joshua Tree but this album comes a close second for me.

  • The Aura they had at the onset of their careers was unbelievable..this tune is better alone than any song of the last 10 years..and its still not one of THEIR best...legends

  • Very nice video and channel :)

  • Powerful.....

  • i love this song

  • es la que más me gusta de U2!

  • Love, LOVE this song!

  • Love this song!!!

  • Unforgettable Ireland

  • best u2 song ever in my opinion they played it every date on the 360 tour but not miami i think theyve dropped it from the set :(

  • Uff! me gusta

  • beauty beauty beauty

  • adoro esta musica faz-me voltar no tempo.... bons tempos.......

  • i have always loved this video, one of their best.... as a swede i really like the wintry Swedish countryside depicted in the UF video , the winter of 1984 had a lot snow,,,

  • Adam Clayton looks like a god in this video. A little bit of stubble and some mouse can turn any man into a model I guess.

  • hmmmm :)

  • No one could ever say that U2's new music comes anywhere near as being good as their older stuff. Wish they still wrote songs like this

  • @JOEFOR3 No DOUBT!!!

  • @JOEFOR3 What do you consider new?

  • @JOEFOR3 So True
