TERRIBLE TURN OUT!!! SHE IS STEPPING SLIGHTLY FORWARD WHICH IS allowing her to rest on her hip rather than to work the glutes to hold the turn out. Hence the bad turn out.. Poor girl is probably paying hard money to not be pushed.

Alright... now that I have read dozens of you bashing this video and complaining that it is incorrect, I would love it if you would at least post an example of what IS correct. o_O I am starting classes at a local academy in a month and was trying to become acclimated to basic movements and positions beforehand.

Apparently this is not the video from which to learn, but none of you are pointing in any other direction... so... Please, point me in a general direction of correctness? o.O

@MissBallet1011 and get a better teacher as well? I would, certainly! By posting this video on Youtube the teacher is shouting from the rooftops that she isn't a good teacher and it's the most appalling advertisement for the school she teaches at. As I wrote elsewhere, there can be no compromise when it comes to ballet, teaching or learning.

@ginika007 There are other versions of the Piqué Movement. For example if you want to do a Piqué turn (excuse me if it's the wrong term, my native language is German), you begin in 4th position, do a quarter turn so you are in second position, don't set down the foot, keep it in demi point, then you spin. You kind of only do 3/4 of a turn so you can set down your foot like shown in the vid.

Anyways, the basics are OK, but its generally rather sloppy and the arms (port de bras) are terrible.

Of course ExpertVillage is not a ballet school, but they could hire someone that knows what they're talking about, at least. This woman is supposedly a ballet teacher, so you'd think she'd know! Being a beginner's teacher is not an excuse, my ballet teacher teaches adult beginners and she's amazing. ExpertVillage just kind of has a reputation for giving terrible instructional videos! ;)

This was a good video for beginners, but it would be even better if the demonstrater wore tights and a leotard so the poeple watching can see her better. and befor u say what a word means u should know the exact definetion of the word. Pique means prick or pricking or it also means to perch. it dosen't mean to step on to a straight leg.

The girl is a beginner and I believe that is all she teaches - "beginners", but I agree with those who've said don't place a video up in "Expert" village if you are not giving expert advice. You might want to give us (those how are trying to supplement our classroom learning) an advanced student to watch if you are going to demonstrate proper technique. I don't want to learn from someone doing as terrible as I am or worse.

when I was teaching to adult beginners, I used to explain in details the theory and asking them to do their possible to make the correct mouvement... and they got amazing results. if you don't learn/know well or are not interested in the theory of ballet it's better if you just take a gym class. you can't teach "more or less" ballet!

To all you perfect ballet dancers, if you ladies are so good at dancing, why are you viewing ballet for beginners? Also since this is for BEGINNERS I would say structure comes first when learning, and later posture and other details. This video is a great for THE BEGINNER! Sitting here before I click on here, I would have had no idea what so ever how to do stretches for ballet, and now I see where it starts, thanks for the video. ps being professional also mean addictude

There are several mistakes with this video.

First of all, to do any kind of "how-to" video, you must be an expert. In this case, the technique with this woman is seriously lacking, as well as her professional experience.

Further, "pique" means "to prick".

Not only that, but this is a dangerous and unprofessional thing to do. People can get seriously hurt when they are ameteurs and are trying this for the first time. Already so many people have broken ankles with this type of video.♥
