I agree, looks more like an Amiga. You couldn't do that on an Atari XL/XE. You probably couldn't do it on an Atari ST. What's with the kids and their emulators?!?
This is a new hardware upgrade for Atari 8bit computers. He's showing it on an emu (it seems they added it to Atari++ emu) of the hardware because it's probably more comfortable for development and showing it at video.
This is quite common in development even on commercial hardware like game consoles (...GBA, Nintendo DS...), it's better for debugging and faster testing.
@BobaVette Are you kidding me... The Atari 8-bits was more powerful then your typical NES and was able to handle graphics better so yea it can do these kinds of graphics provided a program took advantage of it.
Not kidding, quite serious. Unlike most people on teh internetz, I actually lived during the reign of Atari. I cut my teeth on the Atari 8-bit and it was the 2nd computer I learned to program and the 1st one I owned and sold games on. 25 years ago, I was coding in assembly on my Atari 1200xl and had most pertinent registers memorized. If it weren't for knowing that Atari inside & out, I wouldn't still be making games today. So, no, not kidding. Still love Atari 8-bit.
Wow. Nice effects!
