I'm glad someone did a review for this show, but this is one of the PPV's in my time that I remember all so well. I never did a 5 star rating or anything like but I remember watching the Benoit/Jericho the night of the PPV and I pretty much thought it was the greatest match I'd ever seen.
Then the Rumble, my favorite rumble of all time. You forgot to mention how brilliantly they made it look like Kane was going to win by eliminating both Rock/Austin at the same time. Great show.
Chris Benoit v Chris Jericho may well be the most underrated match in WWE history. I'd never heard anyone talk about this match, then watched it a few months ago and thought it was amazing (personally, ***** for me). I genuinely think it was the best match in both guys career and that's saying a lot.
I really wish they would go back to doing that; making it so there are eliminations throughout the rumble rather than have a ring full of superstars because then it's just crowded and uninteresting. I watch every year hoping they'll have another like that, but I doubt it will happen.
this is the rumble where kane set the record of 11 eliminations...i dont think anyone should beat that...so kane can finally have some record in his career...cause when he won the wwf title against austin he lost it like the next day...so thats kanes like only real prestige...
4 week title reign? which title? cause all i remember was kane winning the wwf title then losing the next night on RAW then winning the ECW title a few years ago...
Shoot... my bad. That was the IC title. I remember now.
Did you know that Kane is a 5 time "Worst Feud of the Year" award winner? 2002 (with HHH), 2003 (with Shane McMahon), 2004 (with Matt Hardy and Lita), 2007 (with Big Daddy V) and 2008 (with Rey Mysterio).
He's a 9 time tag team champion if that counts for anything; one lasted 2 months with Taker, another 2 1/2 months with RVD. And Kane and the Big Show had a 5 month reign and lost to the Spirit Squad! What a joke.
I haven't watched this ppv since they first aired it. The on and off Benoit/Jericho feud from 2000 ended here and I enjoyed that match. I remembered Chyna doing that Cartwheel elbow then suddenly she collapsed. The rumble match was highly enjoyable and I cracked up when Drew Carrey handed Kane money and eliminating himself.
This was a great, I loved the IC and WWF title matches.
You didn't talk about the pop Austin got when Kane and Taker were waiting in the ring as the timer was counting down. That was one of the craziest loudest pops I've ever heard.
yeah Austin got crazy huge pops during this PPV. damn WWF crowds were so awesome during the Attitude Era they were so into everyone they even gave huge pops to the midcard matches that were not as important damn then you look at today where they are silent for half of Survivor Series.
I am currently planning for my next two RR reviews to be 2000 and 2003. I'm not sure if I will review 2004 because I never really liked the LMS match between HBK and HHH and most of the card was weak aside from the Rumble itself. I might review 1999 if only because of Rock/Foley.
Rumble 2000 was amazing. It has a near 5-star match and a 4-star match on it. Rumble 2003 you should also review because it has the best and worst match of 2003 IMO. 1999 was not a good ppv. i really enjoyed the I Quit match but everything else just felt unimportant. Throughout the night DX Members fought in undercard matches that no one cares about. The rumble is very interesting however. They even cut away from the rumble to show austin getting beat up backstage sometimes during the match.
Overall PPV: 9.25/10
Edge & Christain Vs Dudley Boyz - ***
Chris Jericho Vs Chris Benoit - *****
Ivory Vs Chyna - ¾*
Kurt Angle Vs Triple H - ***¾

That's true. THAT and the fact that Kane is the only person to be beat by the Undertaker twice. ;P
Oh, and don't forget the 4 week reign Kane had in 2002... ;)
