The Dying Cub's fan request made by my Dad Hank. He was in a coma for the last 30 days of his life at Evanston's St.Frances Hospital in 1980. He hated Dave Kingman, saying he be shit for striking out with men in scoring position and hitting a homer when the Cubs were ahead by 10 runs. I was at the hospital when he came out of his coma only once and the last thing he ever said ' WE GOTTA GET RID OF KINGMAN!". Whenever I hear a Goodman song I think of my Dad .
We all miss you Chicago Shorty..(another of Steve's nicknames..no disrespect here)..
The song is available on his "No Big Surprise" retrospective..along with "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" (Red Pajamas RPJ-008)..and of course "A Dying Cub Fans Last Request.."
Good news clip, but I'm sorry he didn't mention Steve's self appointed nickname of "cool hand leuk" in reference to the leukemia that ultimately killed him. And of course, he was the author of "City of New Orleans," made famous by Arlo Guthrie.
I'm glad that people are finally starting to know about Steve Goodman. Many 2003 Era Fans had no idea that "Go Cubs Go" had been around for over two decades. It's not just about the Cubs and their fans. It's about anyone that has died that has believed in the Chicago Cubs. Thank you Steve!
Steve Goodman was the greatest singer/songwriter EVER!!! Steve, we miss you and we love you. Your legacy will live on forever, and hopefully the Cubs will one for you this year. Today is the 24th anniversary of Steve's departure from us. He is gone, but certainly not forgotten. God Bless Steve Goodman and the Chicago Cubs!!!
"a dying Cub fans' last request" is a better song and more accurately puts it for the Cubs. If I were a Flub fan I'd slit my wrists.

I was surprised when they said it was "shelved for two decades" - I remember this playing in the mid-80s...

I'll be damned. Knew Steve did a lot of stuff with John Prine, but had no idea he was a great Cubs fan. God I love baseball. R.I.P Steve.

He died of Lukemia in 1984 4 days before the cubs won their division. It was sad, and broke a lot of hearts.
