I first heard a version by Neneh Cherry too many years ago on a Marvin Gaye tribute record and thought it just great.

But years later listening to her around here, I'm underwhelmed but haven't been wiling to admit it to myself. I guess it's time to "face the music".

I'm gonna try to dig up my old record just to see whether the the reason for her lesser version is audio quality or if it's just not as good as I once thought it was.

I was at a consert with alicia a few years ago in USA.. ( I live in Norway)

and I had backstagetickets... the suprising part of it were that she dragged me on to the stage and made me sing with her in front of 200.000 people... we sang my boo <3

Sorry, I don't see it. While I respect all her hard work and musicianship she has a ways to go to be on a par with Roberta Much less Marvin. Roberta has a voice as sweet as honey and Marvin could sing sweet or with a soulful rasp. Everytime I hear Alicia sing her voice strains and c racks to reach those high notes.

I've had the good fortune to see many of the GREATS of the last 40 yrs and I say..she has a long ways to go.
