Seen a lot of comments saying these maps aren't balanced for zerg. People don't realize that Blizz put zerg in the game only as a joke. You're not supposed to play zerg seriously. It's just there in case you want extra challenge--can't wall off, no harrassment options before 10:00, only 8 fighting units, T3 takes 7:00 to tech to, etc.

@jdsowa they made zerg a race to comment the story..... and zerg isnt realy a joke, but it is more challenging imo. And maps do a big part in balance but not as much as the players themselfs... and if a map compliments zerg it will aswell other races. with short runtime and easy expos terran and protoss will have the chance to be just as strong. you can easily see they want fast tech in these maps.

with this "distant gas" situation- you would see that the game wasn't made for this. It's just not balanced between races, and would be very limiting, and in fact make games more boring. A hole a few inches to the side doesn't compare to a gas far away- a better analogy would be digging the hole in a sandtrap- which yes, would shit on professional golfers, because that wouldn't be golf anymore. I'm not trying to rail on you here, but I think you lack basic understanding of sc2 balance.

That said, I think your choice of analogy highlights the hole in your logic here- "pro players" can't adapt to having a gas two screens away because that is not the game they are a professional at. Starcraft is a well-balanced game when a few critical parameters remain controlled- foremost being resource balance- 8 mins, 2 gas in the main. If you were to experiment with different races

@Xvoid6f Balance is the name of the game. A distant geyser is a horribly imbalanced idea- the game could have been made for that type of variation, but it wasn't. Despite the focus on balance, tournament games have a ton of variety, it's just at a finer level than "whoah I guess I need to do my no gas build cause of this stupid map".

Some of these maps just look like blizzard tried to cram as many mineral patches as possible into the friggin' things. Personally, I'd LOVE it if Blizzard implemented more island bases/gas (or mineral)-only expansions like in brood war! Maybe two rich geysers in a vulnerable place, or low-yield minerals in an easily defendable location near your base?
