The polar bear plunge a few miles from me is also really intense. Full ambulance crews and medical tents are set up on the ice. Ropes are tied around the jumpers before they take the plunge because the shock to their systems sometimes makes it impossible for them to swim back to the surface. This years jump for hospice raised almost 90,000.
