Most likely the best ever sci-fi story ever created. Although season one spent most of the time introducing all the characters one way or another they missed having a so called baddie baddie. It wasnt until season 2 and then through to the end of season 4 that the story came to pass. The shadows were and are still the ultimate baddie ever portrayed on tv. Season 5 though did seem a waste of time as it really had no ummf anymore. But for those who have not seen this watch it. Excellent
@kestrilian Well , personally i dont think B5 needed a "baddie baddie".. it tells a bigger picture history about politics, morals and humanity wich doesnt need a concrete "baddie" but a main motivation wich to fight (the shadows chaos movement, Earth dark goberment wich were psenophobic towards other races, hate between cultures, religious extremism..) there were some "baddies" like Clark , but they were only the visible face of a far more complex and bigger evil
people forget that Strazinski tried to sell this to networks but was turned down. Although they almost copied the story with DS9, the ST writers were a varied bunch.
Sttrazinski wrote most of the episodes himself. This is why the story arc is coherent.
Hands down the best scifi series. And the first show ever shot in 16:9 too!
well i remember when this show started in the mid 90s but I was a star trek fan of ds9 and voyager so I didn't watch it. I didn't know what I was missing then because I have the complete series downloaded and have finished watching all of it and it was good and even better than star trek in a lot of ways. I felt a little sad watching the last episode because I knew that was the end.

so, maybe at first the acting was bad, special effects were horrible, story was kinda iffy and the costumes were ultra corny but by the end of the first season they got their stuff right and it turned out to be a terrific show! and their special effects were pretty damn good for its time and it being a sci-fi show. Totally worth the time spent watching it.
This. My dad talked me into watching B5, and I was into it, but as season 1 progressed I was like "what crap did I get myself into..". But I stuck with it, and by the end of season 1 it was getting good, and by the time season 3 and 4 came, it was my favourite show of all time. The start of season 1 isn't the best, but this is still the greatest show of all time.
Actually, I never thought that the show was ever that bad, even during the first season. I mean, compared to that stupid piece of crap "Defying Gravity", which was no more than an excuse for gratuitous sex and stereotypical characters, the first season of "Babylon 5" still had the class and maturity of the rest of the series.

@GamerTommy1 B5 was brilliant. Remember that it's aging: the styles and effects are becoming dated, but the incredibly intricate FIVE YEAR story arc has yet to be rivaled by anything I've seen.
The only thing I'd change about it is the acting. The extras were the worst, but even most of the human characters needed work. I've taken to seeing the show as being about G'Kar and Londo, the two most dynamic and changed characters from start to finish. It's much better from that perspective :)
I couldn't agree more. Quite possibly the most epic sci-fi story ever told.
In the end, when the main series wrapped up, I felt great loss, empty inside. I wasn't right for a few days. It was as though I had lost a great friend.

babylon 5 had one of the most gripping stories around, and Stargate and the awful "we will shove god in your face" BSG still have a lot to learn from B5 - those shows are for kids who think they know everything, B5 was for adults who loved to be gripped

Also great video reminded me why I watched Babylon 5 in the first place...a PLOT and ACTORS, still a foreign concept for most TV shows sans BSG of course
It told the story it wanted to tell. the characters were real, flawed humans and the aliens were incredible. Plus, this series actually tried to get the science right.
Nice video about B5. I like especially the choice of scenes in regard to the assassination of Kosh and the accompanying music. It really expresses the sadness of war.
Oh, on another note, the last scene where Ivanova is giving the fair well speech and Babylon 5 explodes, combined with the perfect music score, I was ready to cry. It was seeing the end of something meaningful you really enjoyed. The Forgotten Tales (I think that's what it was called) from 2007 should not have been made at all. They did nothing for the story.
Got to agree about Lost Tales, they really could have done something new, but after watching L.T. I was left feeling cheated. I really hope they do something better for the next dvd release, or at least get a theatre movie done instead.
There won't be a next dvd release. Straczynski said he wasn't happy with how Lost Tales ended up to be, also because of the low budget. He said he wants to make a movie that will add to the series, not subtract from them. So he told WB that either the next instalment will be an AAA budget movie or nothing. I think you already know their response.

I have to admit that Babylon 5 surpassed Star Trek as my favorite show. It was much more involved politically and emotionally then other sci-fi shows. And it was more clear cut the strengths and weaknesses that come with age for a race instead of Star Trek, who always finds a way to win. I wish Crusade would have gone the whole route but leave it to networks to equate cleavage and tight vinyl with ratings instead of appealing to those that just love the show. Kudos to this video post.
I couldnt agree more. Babylon 5 had more explosions and better story lines than star trek. Star trek also really had no bad ending or where something goes terribly wrong except for Deep Space Nine.
Good collage of B5 clips, and a great choice of apocalyptic B5 music, but still - the video didn't give you as much battle as the title made you expect.
I guess it wasn't too bad, but the cgi was still pretty flaky back then and I thought it detracted a lot from the overall feel. Also, it all seemed very directionless for a long time. Really needed the shadows to shift things up a few gears.
Actually the show did a great job of putting little things in that became bigger deals in the end. The CGI was hit and miss for me but I will never argue the score. The score crushed the best star trek could ever do.
Yea they tried to make B5 a tale with begining middle and end, into a weekly show, jist didn't work, everything after the retake of earth was just 'pading!'
That wasn't B5s fault. JMS had planned a 5 year story arch with the liberation of earth being the 5th year. However when the original network said no to a 5th year he wrapped things up in the foruth. It wasnt tell last minute they said Ok to a 5th. By then the story arches had been played out. Thats why Ivonvia showed up in the series finale in the 5th season and yet wasnt in the show during that season becuase the series finale was filmed in the 4th.

Well, I am a B5 fan, but not quite to that extent! B5 was good for its first four seasons then lost the plot, Crusade was pretentious and took itself far too seriously for what it was: a sequel, Rangers should have been smothered at the word-processing stage and as far as Lost Tales is concerned, the writer is what should have been smothered, it was that big an ego-wank! But at least B5 seasons 1-4 were good. Mostly.
I love B5 seasons 1 - 4 and "In The Beginning". Everything else was dire. The Lost Tales, on the other hand re-defined "dire" and went way way further than that in terms of rubbishness! The B5 bolt was shot during season 4 and nothing good has come out since then, sadly.

I've nearly worn mine out I've played it so much. Franke's a genius and I really wanted to do the overview to his music because that's what it was designed for.

Thanks to M185874 for posting this one of mine. I was trying to create a video that covered seasons 1-4 in about 4.5 minutes. I had to leave out everything to do with Babylon 4 and if I had it to do again I'd boost the sound in the Messages from Earth sequence because it's WAY too quiet. It does what I wanted it to do, pretty much, but it's many years old now and no doubt if I was doing it today it would be very different.
Excellent video. Fantastic. The theme song was perfect showing basically the principal history from Babylon 5 (And I watched all the episodes!). Very good! Already added to favorites

It told the story it wanted to tell. the characters were real, flawed humans and the aliens were incredible. Plus, this series actually tried to get the science right.
Lots of shades of grey. Sci-fi for adults.

Oh, on another note, the last scene where Ivanova is giving the fair well speech and Babylon 5 explodes, combined with the perfect music score, I was ready to cry. It was seeing the end of something meaningful you really enjoyed. The Forgotten Tales (I think that's what it was called) from 2007 should not have been made at all. They did nothing for the story.

Got to agree about Lost Tales, they really could have done something new, but after watching L.T. I was left feeling cheated. I really hope they do something better for the next dvd release, or at least get a theatre movie done instead.

There won't be a next dvd release. Straczynski said he wasn't happy with how Lost Tales ended up to be, also because of the low budget. He said he wants to make a movie that will add to the series, not subtract from them. So he told WB that either the next instalment will be an AAA budget movie or nothing. I think you already know their response.

I have to admit that Babylon 5 surpassed Star Trek as my favorite show. It was much more involved politically and emotionally then other sci-fi shows. And it was more clear cut the strengths and weaknesses that come with age for a race instead of Star Trek, who always finds a way to win. I wish Crusade would have gone the whole route but leave it to networks to equate cleavage and tight vinyl with ratings instead of appealing to those that just love the show. Kudos to this video post.

I guess it wasn't too bad, but the cgi was still pretty flaky back then and I thought it detracted a lot from the overall feel. Also, it all seemed very directionless for a long time. Really needed the shadows to shift things up a few gears.

Actually the show did a great job of putting little things in that became bigger deals in the end. The CGI was hit and miss for me but I will never argue the score. The score crushed the best star trek could ever do.

That wasn't B5s fault. JMS had planned a 5 year story arch with the liberation of earth being the 5th year. However when the original network said no to a 5th year he wrapped things up in the foruth. It wasnt tell last minute they said Ok to a 5th. By then the story arches had been played out. Thats why Ivonvia showed up in the series finale in the 5th season and yet wasnt in the show during that season becuase the series finale was filmed in the 4th.

I love B5. It was & still IS the greatest space saga(TV or Big screen) EVER!
Crusade was killed before it's time and probably would've eclipsed B5.
The "rangers" series would almost certainly been another classic too (seriously you saw The gathering who'd believe how great B5 would become!).
The Lost Tales was a terrific re-introduction to old characters, I can't wait to see them develop over more DVDs.

Well, I am a B5 fan, but not quite to that extent! B5 was good for its first four seasons then lost the plot, Crusade was pretentious and took itself far too seriously for what it was: a sequel, Rangers should have been smothered at the word-processing stage and as far as Lost Tales is concerned, the writer is what should have been smothered, it was that big an ego-wank! But at least B5 seasons 1-4 were good. Mostly.

I love B5 seasons 1 - 4 and "In The Beginning". Everything else was dire. The Lost Tales, on the other hand re-defined "dire" and went way way further than that in terms of rubbishness! The B5 bolt was shot during season 4 and nothing good has come out since then, sadly.

It's track 12 of the original (first) Christopher Franke Babylon 5 suite CD (the track is from the Geometry of Shadows section). If you can find the CD, buy it. Superb music! I've nearly worn mine out I've played it so much. Franke's a genius and I really wanted to do the overview to his music because that's what it was designed for.

Thanks to M185874 for posting this one of mine. I was trying to create a video that covered seasons 1-4 in about 4.5 minutes. I had to leave out everything to do with Babylon 4 and if I had it to do again I'd boost the sound in the Messages from Earth sequence because it's WAY too quiet. It does what I wanted it to do, pretty much, but it's many years old now and no doubt if I was doing it today it would be very different.

Actually quite enjoyable - fine indeed - great - a lot of the most important scenes of the show are quoted in this teaser.
Personally I would have prefered a little more spech and a few things, but definitely one of the best fan-teasers I've seen from B5.
