This is sick. For one, even if this lady did know what she was doing she is actually too obese to effectively communicate with the horse from the saddle and too obese to be safe. The horse hardly did anything, and she fell off. But the obesity issue obviously isn't the only major problem here. Its sad that this goes on all over the place 24/7.

You wouldn't beleive how many clients i have send me horses that are all jacked up from idiots like these. Do your research. Ask to see your trainer handle a horse prior to committing your horse to them!

If you can't get on a horse yourself or ride/work through the horse's problems when they're healthy, you are NOT a trainer. She's very unbalanced on top of it all. For the record, the horse never threw her, she FELL off cause she can't balance. Anyways, you start from the ground up training a horse, not just get on and hope they don't do something bad. @NBakker1994 well you showed yuor ignorance of horses quite well. accepted load for a horse is up to 25% of its own weight (healthy). percheron would weigh roughly 2000 lbs meaning a 500 lb load. appropriate horse for th rider
Is there an update for this video? I know you said you didn't know how the only surviving horse is doing, but do you know what is going on legally? Is animal control making frequent visits to check up on them or anything?
@4Champ2and0 - Animal control still won't do anything about it. The remaining horse(the big sorrel gelding) is still hanging on. I know they had a round bale over the winter but no longer. There has been mini's there numerous times - I have no idea where they have gone. A few foals have been spotted starving on the property as well. There's been a few cattle housed with the gelding a while back. I haven't spoke to them since so don't know the details I just drive by periodically.

If you dont mind my asking what county and state, I will try and find out who is handling that case(if they have even started one yet). If I can get in touch with them, maybe I can convince them it would be in there best interest to start getting out there and monitoring these so called trainers. At the very least give that one lady a few guide lines on what she can and cannot ride.

okay, I do support heavier people riding, and I get urked when people are rude to them, but there are limits to me supporting a heavier person riding, this is one of them, she should be on a draft cross at least and not that horse. You're exactly right. I looked at your profile & you're about the same size I am, so we are on the same track! I judged a show on Sat where a VERY large lady fell off her draft horse. We saw it happen--the horse skittered very fast around a corner, she lost her balance & couldn't recover, she slid to the side & the horse took off b/c it scared him. Off she went! The saddle was way too small for the horse, so I'm sure combined with her weight it pinched his back, which made him skitter like that.
yeah my horse is part Draft i had to get a saddle custom made to fit him because all the other saddles are just too small for his back...the famous Draft back still holds haha but yeah he is 15.3hh and he is the perfect size and everything and if i had a saddle that didnt fit him then if i went to ride him it would of course hurt his back more then if it was a smaller person riding with the saddle..
How cool about your horse, as I am breeding my mare for a part draft! She is a 16.2 TWH homozygous spotted mare, built like a tank (size 3 shoes). Perfect natural flat walk, though! I'm breeding her to a dressage-style Shire in the spring for my dream horse: a spotted gaited draft cross. I'll go gaited dressage if the baby is gaited, trotting dressage if it trots. I figure I'll need to have a saddle made for my horse, too! Right now I ride in a dressage easy-change gullet Wintec & I love it!

I do agree that a draft would have suited better for the rider in this case. Found this video while trolling for one-rein stop examples. Couldn't tell the arm position real well, but looks like rider seat balance played a big part in the fall. I'm gonna re-watch to try and watch arm position again during the one-rein stop attempt.

lets see. From the looks of it that horse is about 850-1000pounds? We will go with 1000. 1000 divided by 2 is 500. 500 minus the saddle, approximately *can't see saddle* about 20 pounds? I own a National show horse and he is mostly saddlebred over arab so he is obviously going to be slender right? Well the lady that used to own him was under the impression that even though she was about 300 pounds it was okay to ride him because he was almost 17hh...Some people really need to do their research before getting on a horse. I am a larger rider and I have a 15.3 stocky Foxtrotter with a short back. Before I even purchased her I asked the vet if she could carry me. I have a huge pet peeve about people riding under-sized horses.

According to the Uber-Educated LaRanaTJ, NO horse can carry a heavy person. Go back and read her inital posts. But again, that video just DISTURBED me, especially when it was said that they were showing the horse to sell it when it was not even their horse to sell!

I think there is a huge need for riding schools that cater to larger people, and who have big gentle drafts to teach them confidence, help build them up physically AND mentally, and introduce them in a sane and safe way to the world of horses.
Obesse people should not be riding horses, big gentle drafts dont have hugely dense bones, they are designed to pull weights forward from behind, just because they have big limbs doesnt mean their poor backs can withstand that sort of weight. Besides which obesse people dont balance very well. She isnt riding this horse because she doesnt know a safer way, she is taking money of people and claiming to be something she is clearly not!!

You're exactly right. I looked at your profile & you're about the same size I am, so we are on the same track! I judged a show on Sat where a VERY large lady fell off her draft horse. We saw it happen--the horse skittered very fast around a corner, she lost her balance & couldn't recover, she slid to the side & the horse took off b/c it scared him. Off she went! The saddle was way too small for the horse, so I'm sure combined with her weight it pinched his back, which made him skitter like that.

yeah my horse is part Draft i had to get a saddle custom made to fit him because all the other saddles are just too small for his back...the famous Draft back still holds haha but yeah he is 15.3hh and he is the perfect size and everything and if i had a saddle that didnt fit him then if i went to ride him it would of course hurt his back more then if it was a smaller person riding with the saddle..

How cool about your horse, as I am breeding my mare for a part draft! She is a 16.2 TWH homozygous spotted mare, built like a tank (size 3 shoes). Perfect natural flat walk, though! I'm breeding her to a dressage-style Shire in the spring for my dream horse: a spotted gaited draft cross. I'll go gaited dressage if the baby is gaited, trotting dressage if it trots. I figure I'll need to have a saddle made for my horse, too! Right now I ride in a dressage easy-change gullet Wintec & I love it!

I do agree that a draft would have suited better for the rider in this case. Found this video while trolling for one-rein stop examples. Couldn't tell the arm position real well, but looks like rider seat balance played a big part in the fall. I'm gonna re-watch to try and watch arm position again during the one-rein stop attempt.

lets see. From the looks of it that horse is about 850-1000pounds? We will go with 1000. 1000 divided by 2 is 500. 500 minus the saddle, approximately *can't see saddle* about 20 pounds? I own a National show horse and he is mostly saddlebred over arab so he is obviously going to be slender right? Well the lady that used to own him was under the impression that even though she was about 300 pounds it was okay to ride him because he was almost 17hh...Some people really need to do their research before getting on a horse. Horses that dainty cannot carry that amount of weight! Its just not possible!

gdingell: I agree totally. Bone structure is far more relevant than height when it comes to weight-bearing ability. Tall and slender horses typically have longer and weaker backs. I am a larger rider and I have a 15.3 stocky Foxtrotter with a short back. Before I even purchased her I asked the vet if she could carry me. I have a huge pet peeve about people riding under-sized horses.

According to the Uber-Educated LaRanaTJ, NO horse can carry a heavy person. Go back and read her inital posts. I usually don't blast people but if she can dish out the insults, she should be able to take them as well. Incidentally, I would LOVE to start a riding stable that caters to plus-sized riders and uses large and sturdy drafts. But again, that video just DISTURBED me, especially when it was said that they were showing the horse to sell it when it was not even their horse to sell!

Obesse people should not be riding horses, big gentle drafts dont have hugely dense bones, they are designed to pull weights forward from behind, just because they have big limbs doesnt mean their poor backs can withstand that sort of weight. Besides which obesse people dont balance very well. She isnt riding this horse because she doesnt know a safer way, she is taking money of people and claiming to be something she is clearly not!!

Which studies and clinical trials did you research that led to your determination that "obsesse" people have no balance? Or did you, in your infinate wisdom and spelling expertise just kind pull that one out where the sun does not shine? I am considered "obese" at 5'7 and 230. Maybe you should come see me ride sometime, eh?

I'm really gona put a spanner in the works. I don't think obese people should drive cars either. They can't possibly respond quickly in a moment of danger or risk. Wot befell that poor horse was inhumane. Downright cruelty to animals. Get in the swimming pool n start your exercise there. The water cant break bones. I have no time for fat people o smokers. You cost me money and pollute my world and that of future generations. As for selfconfidence look to your parents n where it went wrong

How OLD are you? Where did you go to school? Did you graduate? What about manners or lack of them? Can we look to YOUR parents to see where it went wrong?
Self-confidence does not come from our parents or anyone else. It comes from our own personal strength, morals and character.
Uneducated people cost this country every bit as much as obese or smoking ones. Take a peek at the welfare statistics.

Scherryann. I have a Masters degree in English Language and English Literature (not American slang and plaguerism) I didn't quite revert to 'txt spk' as so many don't undertand it. I merely shortened some words due to the character count allowed on comments. From whom do we learn our strengths, weaknesses and morals? When and how is our character shaped? You will find from our parents and from infancy to be the answers. You were very quick to judge. Maybe you should look up the word hypocrite!

So are you implying that your "Degrees" would over-awe the average online dolt who is not as highly educated as you are? The questions you pose regarding the acquisition of character/morals is as subjective as asking a person which color they prefer. There aren't absolutes on those issues as they are too varied to discern any objective conclusion about. Never assume people are stupid merely because you assume you're smart. As far as me judging..take a peek in the mirror.

Me thinks one doth protesteth too much! You are clearly a very angry person. I did not IMPLY anything. I was STATING most clearly that you are in no position to insult and/or judge my education. That it is most definately not lacking. You have chosen to make this personal. May I recommend Slimfast. Never had a need myself but apparently it is quite tasty. You amuse me. Bring it on! I will agree with you on ONE thing. This woman WAS way too heavy for this horse. But there ARE very large horses that can carry very large people. Do you own a horse? Do you ride?
