Strange, i just found out that they going to play in Rodovre outside Copenhagen, Denmark (i live in Malmo, Sweden) on 30th November this year, so finally, i'm going to buy ticket and see them live:):)
Just wow. One of the best. Still think it is the only ballad that manages to have slap bass and not sound stupid. One of the songs I will all my life-thanks for posting !
I feel sorry for young ones nowadays who don't experience real classy music like this! Of course it's a generation thing, but anyway.....this was my youth!
@bitnize It was my youth too. This music was all I cared about when I was 14, it was my world. I fell in love with Level 42 listening to Leaving me now which took me straight to buying The World Machine LP,always my favourite. I listened to it so many times that I believe it's somewhere very deep in my head and will not ever come off.
@flowerlike42 Yes you are right, their music is very deep in my head too, that's a bit strange. Lots of albums/songs that are great, i know them all in my mind. It's a shame I've never seen them live. They released a new album in 2006, Retroglide, and i was happy. Not as good as previous ones but good anyway, the song "Clouds" is great i think. I hope they continue making music/albums.
@bitnize Once I was a devoted fan, member of the UK fan club. I saw them live 3 times and to say they were great it's not enough. Energy and performance almost better than in recordings. And I used to put a black scotch tape around my right thumb just like Mark, always not only for the live shows, but that was because I was a teenager..now I don't!! Yes Mark's voice is perfect you're right. After the Forever now LP I did not listen to the new songs but I will search for "Clouds".
@bitnize And I remember that at first listening to a new LP I did not really understand , it took me some more playing before I could grasp the meaning. This speaks for the complexity of their music...or for my obtuseness :))
@flowerlike42 Strange, i just found out that they going to play in Rodovre outside Copenhagen, Denmark (i live in Malmo, Sweden) on 30th November this year, so finally, i'm going to buy ticket and see them live:):)
@flowerlike42 Level 42 had the ability to write great melodies/lyrics, well arranged songs/sound/harmonies. Their sound is basic: bass, drums etc. and Mark Kings voice is perfect. It’s combination of all these things that makes a whole that is just brilliant. They thought of that, the details, which is needed to make great music. Not many artists today do, that’s a shame. Thank god i can always listen to Level 42s music:)
Saw the boys just a couple of months ago in San Francisco. Great gig. Been about 20 years since I'd last seen them so it was a treat. They stuck around for almost an hour chatting and signing autographs from the stage. Such an underrated band.
@drummo777 because unfortunately because of what is popular at the moment, the charts dont allow it....Give it another 20-50 years and it may all come back round again. Music seems diluted these days to me. I love this song..amazing sound !
This is such a wonderful song... in its context of relationships ending, unique, musically brilliant, I have been playing this since the World Machine album was released and still play it now.....simply timeless.....
Starting of this song is amazing. Mark's voice touches my soul and my heart. This song always makes me feel some deep feelings, makes me wanna cry, I can't explain...Level 42 4ever.
A bit like your negative comment! If you don't like them that's up to you, but why bother others who like them with your negative comments? If you don't like them why are you even watching??
I could live without Diane Lane, but I couldn't live without my Level 42 CD's. One is fine, the other is simply amazing & this song is one of their greatest. 25 years and going strong!!!
while watching the video (which by the way I like), I gave the mouse inadvertently marked as innadecuado video, which is not (and indeed I have made good, as the damn mouse moves me only sometimes), sorry, so now I wait my turn, I removed the account although I've done has been unwittingly, in short, 5 stars for the video of Level 42, ah, forgive my English, because they have not I totally dominated jejejeje XD.
Few bands write songs with such moving words as this song carries, and with such a haunting, painful sound of the break-up of love. I fell in love with this song when I first heard it in 1985 and 24 years later, it is still one of my all time favorite songs by anyone. AWESOME Level 42!!!!
I wore this cassette tape out during the mid-80's. I agree, this band was highly underrated. They had talent! Great songwriting, vocals, musicianship, they had it all. Love this tune.
Well, I know they have many loyal fans around the world, but I would say they are one of the most underrated bands in our time.Just listen to this song, isent this great songwriting or what?I would say a masterpiece :)
this starts out as one of the most haunting songs written in a long time... even though the minor melody breaks into a pop riff.. there are so many levels to Levl 42.... who knew? Haha...
Even if they released this song today...it would be popular....nice....beautiful sounding tune. There are a lot of songs that would sound good today released by them.....REUNION!!!!

love this song and the album is my favourite and most played album of all time (World Machine). First bought it on Cassette it wore out, so bought it on LP, that got scratched so I bought it again on LP. Broke my record player so got it on CD. Lost the CD so bought the CD again. Its on my PC now so hopefully I dont need to buy again. Its worth it though!
Will be seeing them in Plymouth, England in a few weeks time. Pray to god that they play this one; but unlikely. Would die to this song over and over again. Managed to squeeze this song into my wedding, the guests loved it and goes surprisingly well with Jamiroquai and Foo Fighters. The band has been my favourite since the early eighties and will love these guys until the end of time!!!!
It will never grow old. When you really listen, it's genius lyrically and musically. There's nothing like it now. Diane Lane is easy to look at, too. I was heavily into Level 42 as a kid in the UK. They still sound fresh.

This for me is the defining Level 42 song. Mature, complex, lyrically wonderful. Absolute perfection. I love it.

This song, to me, best represents what Level 42 was all about. Haunting, charming, sophisticated...wow. They were the best!
