You like your lights kept on dontcha? & you like your heat in the winter & your A.C. in the summer.? Guess what, coal lets you have all that. Oh and guess what,? They arent "destroying" or "raping" the mountains either. They actually make the mountains look BETTER So stop your complaining and shut your tree-huggin mouths,.kthanks<3
-The DAUGHTER of the MINER who told the tree-huggers to "Get your $**t & get outta here"
Hope they're stil in jail, preferably prison. All the ignorant internet heros defending these environmentalist criminals, answer this.
If a group showed up at your home, said they didn't like what you were doing, then proceeded to push you out of the way and/or restrain you, while some of them crawled up on your house & erected a banner ..... would you STLL be defending the idiots?
If you just answered yes to that question, you are quite obviously an idiot just as they are ..... and a liar.
@offamychain they did not destroy or blow up mountains to build my home.
by the way these people would be welcome in my house with open arms. they can hang it in front of my house put a sign on my lawn. why would they push me out of the way for helping the put the sign up?
and i am not a liar those are my honest beliefs but unlike yo i have facts.
the only ignorant person here is you.
please get some facts on the subject of mtr before posting.
hey I have two words for all of you protesting coal- Deepwater Horizon! Ha! Where the hell were you enviromentalists on that one? You all really dropped the ball, I guess.
Do you people know what turns the lights on in your house across the country. its coal. Coal is a vital part of our life, You better look up all the good that coal is doing for a country. I dont like mountain top removal but you better look and see ALL the uses of coal that we use.
Well, if people would just consider, if all the strip mines were deep mines, there would be a substantial amount of more jobs for the miners. The coal companies employ mountaintop removal because it requires less workers and therefore they make more money with less effort.
@SirCoughsalot Let's just put it this way. 80% of the strip jobs, mine coal seams that are a foot or less thick. Could you really see someone crawling in that space, to mine it? You have a good theory (about there being more jobs), but not the education.
@WV24985 I'll admit that, and I appreciate you being civil with me in your attempt to enlighten me on the subject, especially given how the majority of these discussions on YouTube turn out.
@SirCoughsalot No problem...and a lot of people actually don't realize that. Strip jobs have the purpose of getting coal, that can't be gotten with deep mines...and I agree with you on most discussions just seem more like a gradeschool shouting match, than people 'discussing".
@SirCoughsalot Not true. The coal companies preferred coal happens to be mountain coal for one reason. It is the highest quality naturally occurring coal (anthracite) because of it's placement in what-once-were plains which existed on subduction zones. These subduction zones are boundaries where mountain building occurs and, in turn, embedded coal is exposed to ever greater magnitudes of pressure, making it higher quality. That's why we mine mountain coal. Source: I am a Mining Engineer
Dumbest thing I've ever seen. Going to a place that provides food for MANYYY familys and trying to stop them from working. Not to mention the place that probably keeps their butts warm in the winter and cool in the summer. TOTAL RETARDS!!!! I HEART COAL AND STRIP MINING!
I have a hard time believing that any of you can maintain objectivity when your paycheck depends on this horrific practice. Coal is done. Get some job retraining because you will need it.
I love it when these idiots go to jail. Almost makes it worth the lost time these REAL workers have to make up for. Keep mining that coal boys! Keep your economy strong! Keep your families fed! Much love for the miners!
yeah im writing obama right now and telling him to start treating these acts you fuckin idiots do as an act of terorism it is not any different you endangered the lives of every employee there and youre own and if it was on the seas it would be considered piracy punishable by death it is no different so fuck all of you tree hugging fags!!!!!!!!
and mooch off of unsuspecting locals who may be somewhat sympathetic to their views. They dont have jobs nor do they want to work, but they want us to put up windmills, paint our rooftops white and install solar panels, but I guarantee if you went to the bridge they live under or the vacant building they call home, you would NOT find any of the items they so desperately want the world to use. Long
You people are all talking about coal like it's the turn of the century. You've no idea of what stringent standards the industry is held to today. You can't just remove a mountain& leave, you must rebuild it AND refill the area with it's original vegetation. Skeptical? It's called "reclaimation" and the mines employ THOUSANDS of ENVIRONMENTAL engineers to handle this. Want to stop world poisoning/pollution? Go to China&protest. You won't, know why? Because you'd be shot on sight!
i just wish they would have fell off the equipment, that would have made my day. tree huggers are scum of the earth an don't even live here. get another cause like feed the hungry, retards!
Please inform me how that comment made your position any more valid. Tell me how you can use derogatory comments and violent ways of speaking to get you anywhere. If you believe what you're doing (ruining the environment, ruining streams, killing citizens, etc.) is right, you should probably find some valid and respectable reasoning. I live in West by god Virginia, and, if there's anything to be done about it, you won't mine my home, you want put coal dust in my lungs, I'd prefer oxygen thanks.
Ive lived here 4 36 years served in the national guard 4 9 years have 6 years of college inwitch i worked in the farming landscaping restaurant waterproofing and carpentry trades to pay for IT Never had public assistance an never got paid decent till i mined We don't have coal dust flying around because of water trucks and streams are doing great because inspectors are on it! What have you done for your state Can you image the economical devastation WV would suffer from shutting down the mines
@NothingSerious ...Despite what the enviro-freaks put out for people to believe, coal mining isn't doing any of what you said in your comment...(ruining environment, ruining streams, killing citizens, etc)...I'll tell you what...if a strip job just happens to start up next to you, and you don't want to be around it, I'll gladly trade you homes, and live there the rest of my life, 'cause there's nothing to worry about, there. Absolutely nothing.
It's cool, I appreciate the sentiments. But it is, there have been countless discoveries of streams being covered, air and water being polluted, and citizens becoming ill or having sub par health do to mtr coal mining. Oh and, by the way, there is a difference between "strip mining" and "mountain top removal". Oh, and I'm hardly an "enviro-freak", so you would like to call it. I'm just fond of my air and water being filled with coal dust and/or unwanted dangerous metals.
@NothingSerious I'd like to get you to volunteer to take a tour of MTR jobs in southern WV...I'd do all the driving, and at each site we will video the water coming from the job, and we will get your sentiments on why it's so clean, as far as the air is concerned, I work right on the mine site 6 days a week, and it's not affected anyone on the job, so why would we think it would harm someone miles away??? And by the way, I know the difference between MTR and strip mining, cause I done both.
@WV24985 "I work right on the mine site 6 days a week, and it's not affected anyone on the job"
Do you drink groundwater from under the mine site? No.
Do your kids drink groundwater from under the mine site? No.
Do you live downstream from a MTR site where flooding has increased across every holler in WV for the past ten years? No? Well then maybe you should move into one of the communites where these things are a reality. Until you do, then shut up with your BS.
@bapyou I could drink the water coming off the jobs I've worked at all day long...and have at times. I lived in a camper at the foot of the hill (actually on mine property...that close) from one of my jobs for 3 years...Guess what??? It hasn't killed me yet, so don't think I'm BSing...I know from experience, unlike these (think they're smart environmentalists) who've never set foot on a mine.
Do you drink orange AMD water? If so, keep it up. If it hasn't killed you yet, keep it up. Where AMD occurs, nothing lives in the streams. Keep drinking it; go ahead.
I have seen acid mine drainage flowing in streams down below coal mine sites in PA. AMD is an unavoidable byproduct of exposed coal seams and leaching of waste dumps. Nothing lives in those streams; they are orange with pH values so low some are dangerous even to touch. So you go right ahead & drink the water flowing from your mine sites. I guess every West Virginian who cares about their living conditions are anti-American communist leftists. You right-wing morons truly take the cake. Truly.
@bapyou Don't put words in my mouth, about who's anti-American. That came from you...and I'm not right wing...I'm not far left either. I just want to be left alone to do a job that I know doesn't hurt anybody. (I know, because I'm there day in, and day out...not because some environmentalist told me so).
"I just want to be left alone to do a job that I know doesn't hurt anybody. (I know, because I'm there day in, and day out...not because some environmentalist told me so)."
There are thousands of West Virginians who are against the abuses of mountaintop removal. And why would they be against it if it wasn't hurting anyone? You take it personally, as if they're trying to take away your job. Are your fellow West Virginians all leftist commie environmentalists?
@bapyou You're digging your own hole. The fact of the matter is, most of the protesters are NOT from WV. You have definately shown your ignorance of facts too many times. This is the last time I will even waste my time on a reply to you.
@WV24985 "most of the protesters are NOT from WV" And this means what? That there aren't any West Virginians against MTR? I know better. There are thousands of West Vriginians who are against MTR and the havoc it creates. Not to mention union-busting scumbags like Don Blenkenship, men directly responsible for killing your fellow West Vriginians in this mine explosion.
"You have definately shown your ignorance of facts"
Not at all. If anyone is ignorant, it's you. Keep up the good work.
@bapyou We don't have AMD in southern WV. That's a northern occurance. Nice try. It has to do with iron in the rock, which is rare down here. For the record, West Virginia wouldn't even exist if it weren't for coal. We would not have had the industrial revolution if it weren't for coal. And we would not have won our wars if it weren't for coal. I am all for the protection of the environment - but at what cost? Losing all of our jobs? Yeah, that'd be a big win!
@246alive I agree that those are alternatives.. but what about areas without constant sunlight ,strong winds, large rivers, lakes, or reservoirs? What about the fact that the building block of the modern world, STEEL, requires coal to create coke? None of you environmentalists ever mention coking coal - but it is an essential part of industry. And who has the best and most plentiful stockpile of coking coal in the world? We do! Let's take advantage of what is at our fingertips.
@NothingSerious Can't beat the knowledge you get from actually "being there...don't take someone's word for it...take me up on the tour, and I'll SHOW you...not just tell you, like the enviros do.
Wind and solar may be the answer "for the future" Right now, this country is not set up for that kind of transition. The educated person would prepare first, test the new sources of energy for dependability, and cost worthyness. Then, and not untill then, start the transition from coal...You cant just shut it down. That would be like quitting a job without a clue of where your next paycheck will come from...Wait, that's what it'll be exactly in WV.
No better time than the present. If not now then when? I don't see what you think being "set up" for the future is, but buddy, you better open your eyes, because it's on your doorstep. It's on the doorstep of Larry Gibson, who's land has been stripped away. It's on the doorstep of the people of coal river valley, who have to breath in silica dust every day. A transition is just that, a transition, it's not "just shutting it down", it's moving at a reasonable pace into the nearing future.
wow phil, you really know how to thump on your chest like a big man. you accuse people on here that they are narrow minded, and its easy to read your post and accuse you of the same thing. your words make you sound like an arrogant, ignorant, gun wielding, intolerant boob. MTR is proven to destroy lands and precious eco-systems. we need to find a solution not only to repairing the earth, but to find new work for people of that area. threatening people with violence doesnt solve anything.
It is critical that West Virginia and other areas that rely on coal are FIRST to get funding for wind power and solar development from the stimulus bill. These workers must feed their families- but every one on the planet will suffer from global warming. And what about the people whose land and health are destroyed by MTR? What about their families?
I think you need to leave the coal miners alone this is the only way they have to support their family in these area's and there's no other work here i live in Kentucky and i know there's no other jobs here that would pay the bills most of these people who work in the mines would lose everything they have even their homes.Would u help get other jobs in these area's or would u continue on try to take there jobs the only they have to put food on the table for their family's
so should prositution be legal, since thats how some women make their money? how about dealing drugs? people make a living doing that. why cant we just leave them alone!
I invite all fellow coal miners cover your face and attack these terrorist!!! If they want civil unrest us country boys will GLADLY play that game our own way, maybe when they start getting broken jaws and bones they will go back where they came from
this video is idiotic. you protest all you want there's no way yall's little banner is going to stop hundreds of thousands of jobs and an industry to completely just stop and go away. & the comment that says massey is trespassing?? wow .. ignorance is in abundance in this video .. congratulations you hung a banner.
dream on pal.never happen. you seriously think people want to pay double or triple power bills for you and your extremest pals, fairyland theory? wishful thinking.and you can have your nuclear power, that shit will never take coals place. oh yeah mangos suck .
you people are idiots. hey dont like mtr or coal,SHUT YOUR POWER OFF. lucky you didnt get the shit kicked out of you. personally im SICK of the treehugging bullshit. guarantee they all went home and turned on the lights and a/c and even the tv. provided by what,COAL from mtr. you people are wackos.
and if you and your onesided jackass buddies dont like mtr, again,SHUT OFF YOUR ELECTRIC. you dont have the balls zappaman, you are a mouthpeice for a bunch of extremest wackos.again, coal or mtr isnt going without a fight, that i promise.
PHIL.. your coal provides a debatable 7% of the power needed in America. It would not be a threat to our power grid to shut your MTR sites down at all. It's not coal we're against either Phil, it's just MTR mining. So do us all a favor and start looking for another line of work asap. You're going to need to.
again marcus, you havent a clue what you are talking about, your fairytale dream of solor, windmills, fairydust, whatever other bullsshit you morons can try and come up with, wont even start to run what coal does,so might as well get that out of your head. as far as me finding other employment,WONT happen, you will find that out soon enough. coal will never leave, mtr,it wont either. its going to take a hell of a lot more than you and your tree hugging ,check drawing buddies to stop it,
The motion to stop it is already on the floor man. Tennessee is going to ban it for not only their state, but ours as well! Don't believe me..? Read the Charleston Daily Mail online edition. It's GOING to happen! sleep tight!!
If what you contend to be true really is, why are coal companies about 2/3 less in man power then they were say 20 years ago? Coal is on its way out, but MTR coal will go much faster then standardized mining. The Senator from Tennessee is pushing legislation to ban ALL MTR mining and not only in his state, but anywhere it is done in America. It's going to stop because too many of us want it to stop. You people are fighting a true losing battle my friend, and all the more do I feel for you.
hey marcus, first of all your so called MOTION on the floor ,never going to happen, people are finally waking up and seeing the light. how do i know, just got back from a coal and mtr rally in knott co. ky,unlike your few hundred pissy ass people,we had thousands.and we are fed up with peopl e like you. and i could give a shit less what the charleston daily says, and you and your little groups are fixing to find out,SO SORRY YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME on here with your horseshit hearsay. GAMES ON
Patriot Coal told over 300 of your MTR buddies that they're out of a job effective October 3rd today. Yea. I want to thank you again for helping us put Obama in office last November, and please, let's give Mr. Robert's a real hand of applause! These MTR companies do SO much for you, don't they? They give you all the destruction and poverty you like when they pull out, and they could care the less about you and your so called 'livelihood' with them. Game Over.
that sure is a weak response, funny thing the company i work for just picked up 2 new mtr accounts last week, and if you think obama has anything to do with it,he does called STUPID ASS SPENDING,hard for an economy to do anything with such crazy spending,he better enjoy this beacause he wont be back after this ,sorry pal, people have figured him out.and as you did, id like to thank you for being on this mtr, coal powered computer like you are, sure makes my job more secure, promise you this,COAL WINS
More mining fatalities occur on MTR sites then standard, underground mining sites. This year alone - so far - somewhere areound 6 or so MTR deaths, compared to 2 below ground deaths. (so far - at last count)
marcusvwvuspa i have actually been to a mtr site and i have seen what they leave but from your response you obviously havent if you want i will have my dad take me to his coal site and i will show you a finished reclaim and not stuff that is still being worked on.
YOu cannot reclaim a mountain that has had mroe then 400ft of its top blown off Katie. It's gone. Like 2k+ miles of rivers and streams - gone - permanently. No coming back. All that so those porr ole 'miners' can have a 200 dollar Christmas bonus next year, and if they're good boys and girls, a Turkey sent to them by Blankenship for Thanksgiving! Blanko made 11 million last year. How much does his crones make? (yea.. thought so!!) nighty night!!
Again, I have pictures that I can show you of a reclaimed mountain site but aparently you dont want to see them because that would mean admiting the truth and changing the way you think and that scares you. So if your stupid ass wants to learn the truth talk to me but if you want to believe the lies then keep on sending messages and looking like and idiot. You just prove my point that tree huggers dont know what they are talking about.
Katie, if the truth were known, you probably conceived your first child in the back of a pickup truck - if the truth were really known. I have seen 'reclaimed' MTR sites, and they look nothing at all like the original mountain that once stood there. You cannot put over 400ft of mountain top back on you idiot cunt, and it looks like YOU need to come out of the Holler once in a while a realize that YOU are fighting a losing battle. To hell with ALL MTR 'miners'! This state belongs to us too!
Heres another point for you, tree huggers say that they want wind mills instead of coal but to put up wind mills you have to cut down trees to put them up and unlike with montaintop mining the trees wont ever come back so in what way is that better? And if you really want to bring God into this how do you know this isnt what he wants? For us to use what he gave us? At least montain top mining doesnt just leave it after they get the coal.
Katie, you obviously have never been to an MTR site and seen the destruction with your own eyes. Wind Farms are a permanent source of clean energy - unlike MTR mining - and God did not put our mountains here to be blasted away from MTR mining. You are fighting a losing battle girl. And MTR mining does 'just leave' when they're done. They leave behind nothing but destruction and poverty, and damage that cannot be repaired. I'll continue to pray for you.
You said it right here katie. These people are so backwards on this issue. If they're all like marcusvwvuspa, it's almost a laughing matter. His response to you didn't have one single true sentence. Every sentence he typed was a bare-face lie. They're set in their ways, their minds are closed, they'll never come to the knowledge of the truth (Bible). These reclaims are so beautiful. He makes it obvious HE has never been to a reclaimed site, not you. Use what God gave us!
Crawl, what are you going to tell your children when they want to go outside and play but cant due to contamination and destruction that you yourself contribute to? Is that 80k a year you make (farsicle!) worth the livelihoods of your kids and grandkids? Is it? And for your information, I've been arrested 4 times for protesting MTR mountain sites sir, and I've seen more then enough of that waste to convince me how ignorant and stupid people like you are for contributing to it. Youre a Jackass!
I'm assuming you mean my $80,000 per year is a lie. If so, you mean " farcical" not "farsicle". (Don't worry, we all make typos). And if you need proof, just let me know, I'll send you a copy of my paystub, ok? But, I'm sure you would never want to see it, because it would prove you wrong on something. You, along with our President and some scientists are scared to death of admitting you're wrong.
I will never have to tell my kids what you claim because it'll never happen.
if youve been arrested 4 times for this, you are a dumbass. are you using power right now?if you are you need to shut it off and go solar or get you a windmill, hell do something to show your serious about your cause,if not you are absolutley making yourself look pretty stupid here.
Your children will grow up and thank me one day for sacrificing so much of my time and personal agenda for them to have a future in West Virginia. Those Mountain top heavy equipment operators who call themselves 'miners' are facing more opposition every single day. They account for 3 whole percent of the work force in WV, and they think they are the only ones who live here evidently. They are wrong, and we're going to stop them. Out of respect for your kids, I will call you no names,
like i said pal,IF YOU ARE SO AGAINST COAL OR MTR,SHUT OFF YOUR POWER YOU WONT,WHY ? YOU DONT HAVE THE GUTS. you extremest wackos are going to cross the wrong path one day.your handful of nutty buddies arent near enough to stop mtr or coal . you people need to get out and get jobs, way to much free time. AND MTR SITES WHEN FINISHED ARE USABLE. quit trying to convince everyone that its so horrible,GUARANTEE you have never even been on a reclaimed mine.WHAT ARE YOU USING RIGHT NOW,COAL FROM MTR.
Ever wondered why they don't show the reclaimation part of MTR Phil??? And yes, they are gonna cross the wrong path one day, they have already been my way once, wasn't prepared! I'm ready for the next time though!
I live in Prenter WV I dont have a bit of trouble with my water. How come most of the protestors are from states other than WV? My dad works in this industry and I am very proud of it. I challenge all treehuggers to post pics of sites that have been reclaimed beside your pics of working mines. what about @ 5-10-15-and 20 yrs? most of you people have never seen a mines working or otherwise so get over yourself.
They come in from other states because they're a bunch of good-for-nothing bullies. All they care about is making sure we are as miserable as they are and take what few jobs we have left around here away from us. Well, I for one am not gonna sit around and take it. I'm tired of them bullying me around. I wish they'd bring it on and show their nasty faces. I'd like to settle this man to idiot, in person.
How come all the you all ever show is pictures of working mines never after reclaiming? How come when Kathy Matea took a tour of mines she couldnt even tell the difference between reclaimed mines and virgin forest? We will see how you all feel when you are sitting in the dark. If you are against coal why dont you find out where your power comes from and if it is from coal turn off all your power and see how long you make it.
FROM THE FILMMAKER - I appreciate that this clip has initiated useful dialogue from all sides. We would like to hear more about REAL GREEN JOBS FOR MINERS on the ground in WV - either currently held or funded. What will miners migrate to? There is a lot of hype around GREEN JOBS FOR MINERS. Do they really exist and how hard are groups working to create them? We are planning our next phase of filming and this area is something we want to pursue.
"Significant damage occurs because of a lack of returning landscape close enough to the original contour. Additional damage happens because original geological structures that filter water are disrupted. Even more damage occurs when eco-systems dependent on the original contour and the geological stucture turn out to no longer be viable."
Don't even try to use the GAY-ZETTE against us. Everybody knows around here just how one-sided they are. They're exactly like you tree molesters. Don't want to even hear out the other (true) side of this war.
If theres no jobs in WV besides mining, and one really likes WV (I assume that means you don't want to destroy it/make into a wasteland), why wouldn't one move? Wouldnt you feel better knowing your home was still there than staying and taking it apart? I know I would.
I live near the sea, and its a big part of my life. But I'd rather shovel dirt while landlocked than be part of a big trawler company killing the sea.
Why are hippies "tree molesters"? they save trees, not damage them.
You're considered tree molesters because that's just my personal nickname I came up with for you. You love trees more than children. If that were not true, you'd stop trying to take food out of their mouths, simply put.
As for your first comment, why don't you move? Who are you to come into MY state and tell ME to move? It's none of your business! You nutcases got alot of nerve.
The more violent your talk and action against those defending their mountains, water, homes and safety in W VA, the easier it will be for us "hippie environmentalists" in big cities like DC (MY turf) to get our power plants to STOP BUYING YOUR COAL! Then your surface mines will all shut down, we will win, and you will need to find a way to support yourselves without blowing up mountains and beating up your neighbors...
you shouldnt talk on here. everyone can protest us coal mines coal plants ect. by just turning off your power. then there will not be a need for so much coal. all you fuckers are to stupid to see that. so now you read this shut off you fucking computer and call your power company and shut down your power, dont buy plastics or paper products. thats the worst thing to happen to coal mines and coal plants. stupid fuckers your going to high shoot low and take'em out at the bottom.
Read back through the comments. I've posted links to studies articles and testimonies regarding the environmental, health and safety effects of mountaintop removal mining. If anything I have posted is a lie, please debunk it with your own sources. I am open to your side of the argument IF you present citable facts. As for bullying, again, read through the comments and see who has been bullying and threatening.
My family has been mining in E. KY for 80 yrs. My wakeup came when my daughter had 2 retarded children thx to heavy metals in their brains - she died of cancer at 26. Miners are the toughest and hardest workers - so work hard at getting an education so you can get a sustainable job. Keep on with what you're doing and you'll be feeding your kids poison, not food. Granddad and daddy died of blank lung and I'm dying of a broken heart
To anyone who is interested in the truth, do a little research on your own.
Here are a few suggested keyword searches:
Slurry, slurry injection, Prenter water, valley fill runoff, acid mine drainage, sludge safety...
There is plenty of scientific data on the subject of water contamination due to irresponsible mining practices. Don't believe me... read it for yourself.
And notice that big coal cheerleaders never back up their lies with evidence. just insults, name calling and threats.
I'll admit water contamination might happen because of "irresponsible mining practices". But, that's very rare. What about us that are doing it right? Why do you want to put US out of work? Answer me that. If we're doing it right and abiding by all the laws, and not harming anything, why try to put us out of work also, because of a few bad incidents?
Uuummm, I don't think we're the ones lying. And those weren't threats tree molester. They're called promises. If you people don't back off, and stop trying to make our kids go hungry, there has to be something done about you hippie monkeys. What else do you expect us to do, just sit around and take it? Because of the lies of a few, many are going hungry right now. Thanks alot chief! Really slick move!
You're very much welcome. You people have been like a bunch of vultures coming around areas that is none of your concerns and causing job losses in an area that simply can't afford to lose anymore jobs. Well, we're sick of it. Some of us that has the backbone are finally taking a stand against you all. We say bring it on. We're NOT gonna back down. Trust me on another promise (not a threat), if I lose my job, there WILL be a price to pay.
First of all, nothing surprises me with L.A. or the whacky state of CA itself, for that matter. I've been saying for years that state needs to be cutoff and form it's own little country their so anti-American. So, you picked a bad example there, Almighty Smart One. The world isn't what I'd call "waking up", they're being blinded into a phony dang theory of some goofy politician that's the biggest hypocrite of all the tree molesters. Turn your freakin' lights and A/C off if ya don't like it!
I live this new trend of conservatives deciding what and who is "American". The truth is that we are all Americans. The only anti-American thing going on around here is the oppression of free speech though cronyism and threats.
Free speech is fine & dandy my friend. The right to speak your mind is one thing. Knocking people out of much needed jobs & causing kids to go hungry is a completely different problem. And I've given you the problem solving answer. Shut your yapper and turn your luxurious lights, A/C's, and heaters off! I just can't honestly believe you people expect us to just sit on our rear ends and take your lies & bullying. Ridiculous!
Nobody's "bathing in or drinking toxic water." Stop making stuff up. Good grief! I've never seen anybody lie so much, and succeed to make people believe it. Unbelievable!
"Slurry contains the prep plant chemicals, heavy metals, and other chemicals naturally present in coal, such
as arsenic, mercury, chromium, cadmium, boron, selenium, and nickel."
This stuff is pumped into the ground. Nearby blasting forces slurry into local groundwater and well water drinking supplies.
WV DEP stated that this is a dangerous practice. They dragged their feet for years on the study because they are quietly behind Massey. But the truth is the truth.
Ever heard of Prenter Holler? They most definitely do have to bathe in toxic water. They drank it for years too. Prenter has a 93% gallbladder disease rate compared to 3% statewide. Including a high rate of terminal cancer. Prenter is near some of Massey's slurrey injection sites and also near blasting sites. their water has been poisoned for years. little kids still have to bathe in this shit.
you know mining has been going on for years, GET THE HELL OVER IT. people have live there for years and never once bitched about it, so why dont you just keep your damn mouth shut. mind your business. im tired of hearing you run your mouth and trying to put these people out of their jobs.
maybe YOU should go to virginia. if you're so sick of seeing the state 'blown up'. i bet if the miners blew out the side of a mountain to put a damn walmart in ya'll wouldnt be bitchin. you're fighting a losing battle. coal mining has been going on for years, just because a hand full of people dont like it doesnt mean its going to end. you might as well just give up. get a life.
ya'll are a bunch of idiots. its okay for them to blow the mountain out for your precious walmart, but by god anything else is a sin. listen to yourselves, you're ridiculous.
im sure they've blown up enough to put walmarts in. its no different. get the hell over yourselves and stop trying to put hundreds of miners out of a job. yall should be ashamed of yourselves. theres not that many jobs in west virginia. unless you're a miner or in the medical field you might as well forget it. i bet you wouldnt like it if people were trying to get your job shut down. how the hell do you people expect all these minenrs to feed their kids?
They're a bunch of hippie hypocrites 090redneck. They want to do away with our jobs and stop coal mining, but they still run electricity at their homes. Their leader Al Gore wants to shut us down, yet he has a $2500.00 electric bill every month, and rides a private leer jet to get a hypocritical Nobel Peace Prize for something that's not even a true theory.
i agree they are. but i bet it would be a whole different world if it were us trying to do away with their jobs. its absolutely ridiculous how ignorant a group of people can be. there is nothing "toxic" their just blowing everything out of proportion
True, True. I personally don't see this ending til a war stops it, and a bunch of them lose their lives. Then they'd be considered martyrs, although hypocritical or false martyrs, to their cult. They claim THEIR lives are being threatened. What do these nutjobs expect us to do, just sit around on our couches and let them take food out of our children's mouthes while they come in here and trespass on our lives? I think not! Bring it on tree molesters, we're waiting with weapons in hand!
amen to that! they need to just mind their own business. they just think that their lives are so hard. they're fighting a losing battle so they may as well just give it up. they're just a bunch of worthless tree molesters that need to get a clue!
. My husband was one of the deep miners that lost jobs to MTR. I don't hold a grudge against the MTR miners but they hever said a word nor show concern about them. My husband could of retrained for MTR mining. He was a union miner for 27 years. We made it. I finished school and supported our family. We went through two years of cleaning house, odd jobs, any honest means. I care about MTR miner. I pray daily for you but I will not stop fighting against MTR.
First of all, I'm truly sorry for your husband's job loss (whenever that was). That was all before my time, I had nothing to do with it.
I AM UNION ALSO! And dang proud of it. I mine coal on a surface mine. It's NOT "mountain top removal". I can agree with the term "mountain top MINING". But contrary to popular belief, we DO NOT "remove" anything but the small coal seam. Then we build the mountain back very close, or even better than it was originally. There's some truth for you guys!
I never said anything about me building a mountain better than God. You're so stupid it's kinda hilarious. You just showed how intelligent you are freak! Accuse me of something so stupid. Give me a break! What I meant by POSSIBLY being better than the original is that you can actually develop on reclaimed surface mine sites. Try building a house or anything else on the top of a mountain peak that is straight up and down on both sides.
You said you make them better than they were originally... I guess God really screwed up on the Appalachians. It's nice of you guys to fix his mistake.
That's you talking my friend. I have never once said anything about God making any kind of mistakes. That's you twisting something I'm saying that's right into something that's wrong, just like you people always do. Would you rather build a house or business on flat ground or try to balance it on a mountain peak like a see saw? Answer me that. That's all I'm talking about. I have never exalted myself above God like you are trying to make people believe. I don't appreciate that accusation.
You're the one who said you make it better than it was originally. If God made it originally, and you make it better, you must think you're better at it than God.
OK, once again...tell me where the word "God" is in there. I would never put myself above Him. An angel tried that once and he's no longer an angel. You're full of it.
Look dude. You make it obvious you're never going to come to the knowledge of the truth, and that your mind is closed and will never be open, so let's just agree to disagree here. Just stop pushing for my job to be lost please. We're a very desperate and angry group of miners around here right now. For your own safety, & our peace, please stay away from here and stop this nonsense, OK?
I am happy to agree to disagree... But I will continue to use my right of free speech to talk about mountaintop removal. You can threaten me all you want.
Crawl, no one is threatening you and those kinds of threats are not necessary. MTR mining contributes very little to America's energy needs, and sadly for you and other MTR miners, we could easily - very easily - live without your coal. That's a statistical fact. We don't need MTR coal or MTR destruction. And we will continue to protest. I've been arrested 4 times already for it and I am sorry if my presence at your MTR site disturbes you, but I"m not going to stop untill MTR stops.
No one is threatening me?!?! Are you freakin' serious? You don't seriously believe what you just said, do you? You people never cease to amaze me. You keep coming up with more lies. My way of living is being threatened, but nobody is threatening me. Funny dude!
You say you can live without our coal. That's fine, live without it, turn your electricity off then fool! I, & my kids CANNOT live without it. $80,000/year. There's a stat for ya idiot!
How in the world can you act Christian and say you "will pray for me", then in the same sentence say you will take food out of children's mouths and take good working people's jobs away from them. That to me is called a hypocrite, which doesn't surprise me at all. Anybody who will crucify coal then use it to power their lights, A/Cs, Heaters, computers, TVs, are all hypocrites. Please don't pray for me. I don't need hypocritical prayers. I AM a Christian, I'll pray for myself thanks!
To me it's not really an argument. It's nothing but the truth. If you don't want to burn coal, turn your dang power off. It's simple really. If you use power from coal, you're nothing but a low-life hypocritical piece of crap. Nobody can argue that. Just as Katie said, take a good look at the reclaims that have TREES on them, not just the fresh mine sites. If it's possible for you to have an open mind, check them out, to me they're more beautiful than an untouched forest.
Your logic might work if I was on here protesting the use of electricity... I'm not.
I am protesting the barbaric practice of turning a mountain inside out for some cheap coal, which makes up for less than 5% of this countries energy...
Try the neighborhood of half, yes 50% of this country's energy liar! See, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Another lie and you're blinding people into believing a lie. The Bible said people would believe a lie and be damned.
Finish your scenario there pal. "of coal, then building the ridges and peaks back." See, you're trying another attempt at blinding people. That's not "inches" either. It's actually quite a few feet. Underground is responsible mining at a much more dangerous level. It's an extremely dangerous job. But, what you don't want to admit is that we mine coal responsibly also. I don't care if you believe that or not. But, the company I work for does.
bunch of tree huggers. grow the hell up. how would like it if people came to your workplace and tried to prevent you from doing your job? i bet you wouldnt like that at all would you now. get the hell over yourselves. really now. leave the miners alone and let them do their job so they can support their familys. if you dont like how west virginia does business then stay in your own damn state.
This IS my damn state and I'm sick of seeing it blown up. Most of the profits from MTR don't even stay in WV. If anyone should go back to their own state, Massey should go back to Virginia. And you mASSey Lickers should follow.
Then maybe YOU should leave. Ever thought of it that way monkey-spanker? There's 49 more states out there. Nobody said you HAVE to live here. If you ain't happy with what's going on here, try moving til you find somewhere that will make you happy. Even though that's probably not possible. There's no pleasing you nutcase terrorists!
Dear Tree-Huggers,
You like your lights kept on dontcha? & you like your heat in the winter & your A.C. in the summer.? Guess what, coal lets you have all that. Oh and guess what,? They arent "destroying" or "raping" the mountains either. They actually make the mountains look BETTER So stop your complaining and shut your tree-huggin mouths,.kthanks<3

If you just answered yes to that question, you are quite obviously an idiot just as they are ..... and a liar.

by the way these people would be welcome in my house with open arms. they can hang it in front of my house put a sign on my lawn. why would they push me out of the way for helping the put the sign up?

Do you people know what turns the lights on in your house across the country. its coal. Coal is a vital part of our life, You better look up all the good that coal is doing for a country. I dont like mountain top removal but you better look and see ALL the uses of coal that we use.

Wow. You guys have balls. I'll say that.
bapyou 1 year ago
Well, if people would just consider, if all the strip mines were deep mines, there would be a substantial amount of more jobs for the miners. The coal companies employ mountaintop removal because it requires less workers and therefore they make more money with less effort.
SirCoughsalot 1 year ago
@SirCoughsalot Let's just put it this way. 80% of the strip jobs, mine coal seams that are a foot or less thick. Could you really see someone crawling in that space, to mine it? You have a good theory (about there being more jobs), but not the education.
WV24985 1 year ago
@WV24985 I'll admit that, and I appreciate you being civil with me in your attempt to enlighten me on the subject, especially given how the majority of these discussions on YouTube turn out.
SirCoughsalot 1 year ago
@SirCoughsalot No problem...and a lot of people actually don't realize that. Strip jobs have the purpose of getting coal, that can't be gotten with deep mines...and I agree with you on most discussions just seem more like a gradeschool shouting match, than people 'discussing".
WV24985 1 year ago
@SirCoughsalot Not true. The coal companies preferred coal happens to be mountain coal for one reason. It is the highest quality naturally occurring coal (anthracite) because of it's placement in what-once-were plains which existed on subduction zones. These subduction zones are boundaries where mountain building occurs and, in turn, embedded coal is exposed to ever greater magnitudes of pressure, making it higher quality. That's why we mine mountain coal. Source: I am a Mining Engineer

What have you done for your state Can you image the economical devastation WV would suffer from shutting down the mines
eepmonster 2 years ago
@NothingSerious ...Despite what the enviro-freaks put out for people to believe, coal mining isn't doing any of what you said in your comment...(ruining environment, ruining streams, killing citizens, etc)...I'll tell you what...if a strip job just happens to start up next to you, and you don't want to be around it, I'll gladly trade you homes, and live there the rest of my life, 'cause there's nothing to worry about, there. Absolutely nothing.
WV24985 2 years ago

WV24985 2 years ago
@WV24985 "I work right on the mine site 6 days a week, and it's not affected anyone on the job"
Do you drink groundwater from under the mine site? No.
Do your kids drink groundwater from under the mine site? No.
Do you live downstream from a MTR site where flooding has increased across every holler in WV for the past ten years? No? Well then maybe you should move into one of the communites where these things are a reality. Until you do, then shut up with your BS.
bapyou 1 year ago
@bapyou I could drink the water coming off the jobs I've worked at all day long...and have at times. I lived in a camper at the foot of the hill (actually on mine property...that close) from one of my jobs for 3 years...Guess what??? It hasn't killed me yet, so don't think I'm BSing...I know from experience, unlike these (think they're smart environmentalists) who've never set foot on a mine.
WV24985 1 year ago
Do you drink orange AMD water? If so, keep it up. If it hasn't killed you yet, keep it up. Where AMD occurs, nothing lives in the streams. Keep drinking it; go ahead.
bapyou 1 year ago
@bapyou I've never seen anything but clear water coming from the jobs I've worked on.
WV24985 1 year ago
I have seen acid mine drainage flowing in streams down below coal mine sites in PA. AMD is an unavoidable byproduct of exposed coal seams and leaching of waste dumps. Nothing lives in those streams; they are orange with pH values so low some are dangerous even to touch. So you go right ahead & drink the water flowing from your mine sites. I guess every West Virginian who cares about their living conditions are anti-American communist leftists. You right-wing morons truly take the cake. Truly.
bapyou 1 year ago
@bapyou Don't put words in my mouth, about who's anti-American. That came from you...and I'm not right wing...I'm not far left either.
Keep up the good work.
bapyou 1 year ago
@bapyou We don't have AMD in southern WV. That's a northern occurance. Nice try. It has to do with iron in the rock, which is rare down here. For the record, West Virginia wouldn't even exist if it weren't for coal. We would not have had the industrial revolution if it weren't for coal. And we would not have won our wars if it weren't for coal. I am all for the protection of the environment - but at what cost? Losing all of our jobs? Yeah, that'd be a big win!
dgrub 1 month ago
@dgrub coal has long outlived itself as being worthy of a fuel source
even natural gas fracking is better
if coal disappeared today what would replace it
natural gas, nuclear, solar, wind, hydro electric and much more would just replace the coal.
coal companies lobby to prevent other forms of energy.
the coal companies try to keep jobs out of west virginia other then the coal jobs so that if a wv citzen speaks against mtr they lose their job.
we can have jobs and the enviroment. its true.
246alive 1 month ago
@246alive I agree that those are alternatives.. but what about areas without constant sunlight ,strong winds, large rivers, lakes, or reservoirs? What about the fact that the building block of the modern world, STEEL, requires coal to create coke? None of you environmentalists ever mention coking coal - but it is an essential part of industry. And who has the best and most plentiful stockpile of coking coal in the world? We do! Let's take advantage of what is at our fingertips.

WV24985 2 years ago

MTR is proven to destroy lands and precious eco-systems. we need to find a solution not only to repairing the earth, but to find new work for people of that area. threatening people with violence doesnt solve anything.
luckybitz13 2 years ago
It is critical that West Virginia and other areas that rely on coal are FIRST to get funding for wind power and solar development from the stimulus bill. These workers must feed their families- but every one on the planet will suffer from global warming. And what about the people whose land and health are destroyed by MTR? What about their families?
theoldclamdigger 2 years ago
I think you need to leave the coal miners alone this is the only way they have to support their family in these area's and there's no other work here i live in Kentucky and i know there's no other jobs here that would pay the bills most of these people who work in the mines would lose everything they have even their homes.Would u help get other jobs in these area's or would u continue on try to take there jobs the only they have to put food on the table for their family's

If what you contend to be true really is, why are coal companies about 2/3 less in man power then they were say 20 years ago? More mining fatalities occur on MTR sites then standard, underground mining sites. This year alone - so far - somewhere areound 6 or so MTR deaths, compared to 2 below ground deaths. (so far - at last count)
marcusvwvuspa 2 years ago
Very true Marcus... and in 2008, 28 surface miners died as opposed to 23 underground.
And let's not forget innocent citizens killed by flyrock like three year-old Jeremy Davidson from Virginia.

marcusvwvuspa i have actually been to a mtr site and i have seen what they leave but from your response you obviously havent if you want i will have my dad take me to his coal site and i will show you a finished reclaim and not stuff that is still being worked on.

This state belongs to us too!
marcusvwvuspa 2 years ago 2
Heres another point for you, tree huggers say that they want wind mills instead of coal but to put up wind mills you have to cut down trees to put them up and unlike with montaintop mining the trees wont ever come back so in what way is that better? And if you really want to bring God into this how do you know this isnt what he wants? For us to use what he gave us? At least montain top mining doesnt just leave it after they get the coal.
katie1991walker 2 years ago
Katie, you obviously have never been to an MTR site and seen the destruction with your own eyes. Wind Farms are a permanent source of clean energy - unlike MTR mining - and God did not put our mountains here to be blasted away from MTR mining. You are fighting a losing battle girl. And MTR mining does 'just leave' when they're done. They leave behind nothing but destruction and poverty, and damage that cannot be repaired. I'll continue to pray for you.
marcusvwvuspa 2 years ago

Youre a Jackass!
marcusvwvuspa 2 years ago
I'm assuming you mean my $80,000 per year is a lie. If so, you mean " farcical" not "farsicle". (Don't worry, we all make typos). And if you need proof, just let me know, I'll send you a copy of my paystub, ok? But, I'm sure you would never want to see it, because it would prove you wrong on something. You, along with our President and some scientists are scared to death of admitting you're wrong.
I will never have to tell my kids what you claim because it'll never happen.

Look around, Phil.
The world's not going to take this much longer.
Your children won't live on the same earth once you are gone.
Why do you oppose progress?
We have to work together to get our energy in ways that isn't going to effect us drastically down the road.
Keep coal until we perfect the efficiency and ease of alternative energies, but MTR is one of the most ignorant practices of all time.

The Charleston Gazette:

Additional damage happens because original geological structures that filter water are disrupted. Even more damage occurs when eco-systems dependent on the original contour and the geological stucture turn out to no longer be viable."

And notice that big coal cheerleaders never back up their lies with evidence. just insults, name calling and threats.

To me it's not really an argument. It's nothing but the truth. If you don't want to burn coal, turn your dang power off. It's simple really. Just as Katie said, take a good look at the reclaims that have TREES on them, not just the fresh mine sites. Your logic might work if I was on here protesting the use of electricity... I'm not.

Finish your scenario there pal. "of coal, then building the ridges and peaks back." See, you're trying another attempt at blinding people. That's not "inches" either. It's actually quite a few feet. bunch of tree huggers. grow the hell up. how would like it if people came to your workplace and tried to prevent you from doing your job? i bet you wouldnt like that at all would you now. get the hell over yourselves. really now. leave the miners alone and let them do their job so they can support their familys. if you dont like how west virginia does business then stay in your own damn state.
