Ok here goes... Years ago when I was a kid I was searching through magazine (road and track, car and driver, autmobile) and I came across a new vw bug that someone had taken a porsche 911 turbo drovetraihav 2 other Porsche n and motor and swapped it in. It has 450bhp and was AWD. I have been looking for either the article or actual car for a while now and cant find anything. I figured maybe this would help. ANYONE? I have two other Porsches and want to either build this for someone or myself
Dude? Beetles called Type 1 and not T1!!! This one is a Typ2 Split = T1. Bay = T2 Edge = T3 watersplasher = T4 the new one = T5. Beetle = Type 1 Bus = Type 2 Notch, fast , square = Type 3 411, 412 = Type 4. Learn it from the busdoc. Arne
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
OK but the turbo can provide more uphill power especially in a Bus where they usually suffer in high gradients. As I live in a mountaneous area this is a good option but would this affect the reliability of the engine as it will use slightly more fuel especially if driving above 2000ft from sea level with several passengers??
I don't give a toss about fuel consumption, its the fact that stopping off for fuel in a crowded station waiting for the owner of the car in front hogging the fuel pump and shopping inside to buy croissants and coffee for 20 minutes is intolerable. I would fit a 95 liter tank to reduce the amount of time in fuel cues.
It's ok, not tryin to knock ur bus or u or anything, just saying, I was under the impression that the backup lights were added right away in 67. May is pretty early in the year still, so I bet they didn't add the extra lights until halfway thro or later in the year... Cool bus btw, I bought my 71 bay window for my first car, I love it to death, but I still wish I had a splitty....or a Porsche engine...I tick alot of ppl off on the highway XD
@pedekiller u've got a bug not a bus my friend. If a bug started backing up, the worst it could do is stub ur toe :P Buses could do some major shin damage >:D No but seriously, 1968 buses had them for sure, i thought they put backup lights on the 67's too, but I'm too lazy to look for proof :P I've got a 71 bay window(oh yeah, I was the ****ing bees knees in highschool XD ) and that has backup lights...granted they dont work at the moment...but i'll fix that eventually ;]
Hi, is it true that injected motors are not as reliable as on with carb? also yours has one or two carbs? and finally I got a 79 T2 do you know how much would it cost a 2.0 Porsche engine for her?
I vowed to never have sold mine but, had to, due to some bad stuff. I regret that move still, til this day. I dumped $8,000, into it, & the interior was still not there. Good times though. I painted it 2 x. I learned from some mistakes made but, what I know now, just assures me,that my next Bus will be perfect. A V8 is just too much for the unibody of a Bus.Roll bar frame would be needed.I'm a stick with VW or Porsche&, just race that ship out.
Dude, the T1 is the VW Beetle, the VW Bus is the T2. I would have thought that someone calling themselves Busdoc should know the diff. That said, good work. Iv just swapped out the old engine in my bug for a 1641 with twin carbs and Porsche air system and exhaust and I'm building a 3Ltr aircooled for my 66 Split Camper (not bad for a blonde) that and a few other mods and some nice I.C.E.
If everyone owned a Vdub, the world would be a kinder place :-)
