The instruction books do say better downwind than downhill.

I have had the wind sock follow me in a 360° as I try to line up for approach - you can't just throttle back up and shoot the approach over again. Fortunately the wind is usually light when it is that extremely shifty.

it usually has to do with the terrain and trees and..

turbulence...and how much down hill? thats the big one! just a little more, goes a long...way.

Yup. Every situation is different.

Wasn't a bad crash anyways.

(I did my first high altitude flight on a 160 Duck, and had to run like hell to keep from whacking the nose... a fence in the way woulda made it a crash)
