  • The French revolution was the BEGINNING of the enlightenment period. OPEN A BOOK!

  • You forgot the part when France raped the whole Europe (HRE, Prussia, UK, Russia, Spain, Portugal..etc) from 1792 to 1802.

  • I was fooled... that was two minutes and six seconds.

  • 1:17 Nothing to do with the food revolt, that's the take of the Bastille

  • Economic issues were more a trigger of the French Revolution than its main cause. More than a century of tough royal regime was most certainly to be blaimed (among other side elements of course: enlightment philosophy emergence of a strong bourgeoisie class, lack of personnality of Louis the XVIth himself,...) In a nutshell, Louis The XVIth paid for his two autocratic predecessors. "Après moi le déluge" said Louis the XV. (litteraly "After me the deluge")

  • The Delacroix painting "La Liberté guidant le peuple" used here is not connected with the 1789 revolution but with the July revolution in 1830.

Besides, the parallel with the American Revolution shouldn't be pushed too far. It is to be only partly considered as an influence for the French Revolution since France has never so much considered it as a "revolution" as such but as an "Indepedance War". Indeed, in France it has always been known as "la Guerre d'indépendance" in History books.

  • @braniki1 I agree, the American Revolution was an influence and the French Revolution would've taken place regardless, mainly due to the social and economic problems France had already had

  • @Sbmma93 The French economic problems were caused, in large part, by their support of the colonists in the American Revolution.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 Ehh not so much. I was talking more about the problem with the 3rd estate paying the highest taxes and the fact that they didn't have a fair representation in the General Assembly. The biggest thing was the king's support of the 1st and 2nd estates over the 3rd estate. This lead to a divide between the classes which eventually errupted into the Revolution. And lets not forget the war with Prussia and Austria

  • You didn't mentioned anything about Robespierre and how the revolution finally failed, but except from these it was exceptional.
