  • Thanks for your expertise!

  • Hope someone can help me chose a nice barlow and a couple eyepieces. i bought a ioptron 6" telescope with gps mount. but it only came with a shyty barlow of plastic and 2 eypieces 10mm and 25mm i was wondering if i should get a 4mm 6mm 8mm another better 10mm and a barlow 2.5x and some filters. Please recomend me something, thank you !

  • lol the eyepiece that i bought is about 2 degrees range

  • thank you for the equation :)

  • I'm still confused about a few things, but this vid has helped fill in a few gaps in my knowledge of how the whole focal and magnification etc works with regards to eyepieces and barlows etc. I suspect when my first scope arrives and I actually start using it, I'll have a head start in understanding it all now, thanks to this series of videos. Thanks.

  • TeleVue all the way...

  • @hummerume Celestron are usually quite good. As far as I know, it's definitely a set worth buying. That being said, however, if you've got a Dobsonian or something big, a 2" eyepiece would be a better idea.

Personally, I don't use any 1.25" for anything other than the planets or the moon.

  • @AkiThePirate, Yeah you are right, actually I was contemplating buying the 2" eyepieces for my new project. am building a 8" F9 Dob, i wll surely get the 2" eyepiece kit for this.... also cud you pls share some of your thoughts of an 8" f9 dobsonian limitations?

    Best Regards

  • @hummerume An 8" F9 would be pretty forgiving on the eyepieces, and would probably give some nice contrast. And with a 40mm EP you'd get 45 magnification, which would be pretty handy for big DSOs like M31 or M42. I think you'll have a slightly narrowed field of view, though, which will just make tracking slightly more annoying.

But it'll be absolutely marvellous for the planets and moon, and should be pretty good going into deep sky things, too.

    Enjoy the scope.

  • @AkiThePirate Thanks a ton for responding :)

    Best Regards

  • Slow down, man, slow down. You're going too fast.

  • Diagonals are usually not used with newtonian reflectors, a 3.5mm eyepiece will give alot of mag with your scope usually lower powers are best with your model, wider fields of view. With a barlow lens the mag may be too much except for really exceptional nights when the air is really still.

  • really great video, thank you for the deatailed knowledge you freely sharing....

I appreciate that very much, helping to choose a decent scope and avoid the BS that was the one my missus ordered off amazon ....was 90 quid and not that good IMHO

have saved an have up to 200UK all done for something we can grow into, adding eyepieces and other accessories would like to be able to take pics an to have it connect to the computer somehow might be a good thing ? , ...I think ?

    help:)

    thanks agin

  • very nice post,, lots of info, could you help me w a couple things, first i have nexstar 130,, and bought the celestron 2 inch eyepiece kit, do diagnols work in reflectors,it doesnt fit right. also i am thinking about purchasing a vixen 3.5(3856) eyepiece as my first good eyepiece, is this a good all around choice for my scope for viewing planets,
