i agree with the dude that said it's up to you to figure out.. you've already failed if you need to ask. not to be rude, but im the same.. alot of times i wonder and want someone to show me the patterns, but ive realized different people play guitar different ways.. the way your body naturally wants to strum the guitar is the way you should groove it.. give it a shot, try to replicate the original as much as you like, but dont worry on perfection.

first let me explain a few things.

1) jack johnson employs a technique called chucking in many of his songs, its sort of his claim to fame. in this method on a down strum he slaps the strings.

2) the strum pattern is not complicated at all, it takes time to get it because it breaks all the rules of natural guitar rhythm.

3) the strum is down ^ X (chuck) ^ X ^ X ^X.
