I don't get the constant complaint about "hearing loss." I'm a student at our home football games at Autzen Stadium, the noise routinely hit the 125-130 decibel range when the opposing offense is on the field.
And guess what? It's not treated as some sort of public health threat, in fact most fans celebrate the electric, rowdy, noisy, atmosphere. Loud stadiums make for an exciting atmosphere and enhance the experience. European soccer fans need to man up and stop whining.

I really doubt your football games are going as loud as you think, at least not for any sustained time. These horns are being blown constantly.

I find the constant drone irritating. It is incessant- no ebb and flow to match the play on the field. I think the African fans have confused decibels for a measure of enthusiasm. It's the vocal equivalent of just screaming; I prefer singing fans.

I don't watch football matches but heard about this vuvuzela. I know almost nothing about South African culture, and for me it's a discovery, though I won't pretend liking it but it's impressive.
What I don't understand is, people annoyed by loud sound watching football matches. Hey, everybody's noisy at a football match, and that's how it's meant to be. That's a part of the experience. So why this one has to be "annoying"?
