Can someone help who`s speaking better englisch than me? What does he say at 1:56? He wanna use real submersibles and he wann use real what else? i need id for an work. I Hope somebody can help me!
You know I really would have liked to hear Mary's side on what she was feeling at the time, from early filming to her meltdown on set.. she must have held a heavy grudge on Cameron since she wasn't even on this documentary.. I'm sure they asked her to be in it. :/
@TK42100 is no USS Montana. I know it is from the movie and as a dedication to the movie it would be cool to have. Side note, the hull number on the sub in the movie is the US ballistic submarine USS Maine. This movie came out one year before the USS Maine construction began
this is not only a masterpiece from cameroon but tells the humans how to behave....humanity is gettin lost and this film can put a light into dat too...brotherhoodness stay among all...god bless
fuck i have this on DVD and i want a real 2:33 16/9 master for see those underated masterpiece in the best way possible. the DVD suck and are not a THX quality for me, im pretty sure that the special edition on laserdisc version was better.
@micosair Hello, I am interested by this video; I am french so unfortunately I don't understand a lot of what they say. So I have a small request for you...could you extract subtitles from that dvd and upload them somewhere, even if they are English subtitles, I can then translate the text to french...I have already searched on all subtitles websites with no luck. Please reply, thank you ;)
The Abyss is an awesome experience. One of Cameron's best. This documentary really shows how much passion Cameron had for this project. It looks like everyone aged a decade after finishing it, though. Hellish production.
I just received the ntsc theatrical edition laserdisc edition that I wanted to buy around mid 95/96 I have owned the PAL special edition laserdisc which I sold a short while after buying the region2DVD that I still have.
Been watching the laserdisc today as it turned up today and now watching the acclaimed documentary “Under Pressure” on second DVDdisc. Its one of his masterful works still to this day, the original DOLBY STEREO mix sounds so choice over the Avatar which I lofted from the start of the waste of space bluray in dtsHDMA.
The Abyss I can re-watch and re-listen to many times over Avatar.
I think it's funny and a little insulting that for the trailer for Avatar they said:
"James Cameron, director of Terminator, Terminator 2, Aliens, Titanic..."
But where's The Abyss? wtf?
Now, I can understand that today's standards the Abyss looks kind of tacky in the special effects department with the sea creatures, but that was probably because this move was made prior to Terminator 2.
I still love the movie though, they really need to give props where it's due, however...
i've read cameron's autobio about this movie. nice to see finally what i read about. and see what gale hurd looks like.

The actors bitched constantly during Production. I'm shocked this movie was completed considering what I've heard Ed Harris say about Cameron
