If the story and character of Max Payne are shallow enough to be destroyed by some aesthetic changes, you must not see it as a franchise of much strength. Sam Lake and some of that Remedy team were asked about Max Payne 3, and Lake himself said it will "maintain it's dark and gritty origins" and that fans of the series will be "in for a surprise." All that is on Max Payne 3's wikipedia page.

They took it out of snowy NY, and put it in bright and sunny Brazil. They took a grizzled and miserable cop and made him fat and out of shape.

Max Payne 3 will be awesome guys. They aren't gonna rehash the same thing over and over again. R* is trying something new. To people worrying about the noir feeling of the game, DON'T! R* capture the feeling of the Old West in RDR and the Noir feeling in LA Noire, which LA is like the "City of Sunshine." R* captures the atmosphere very well in games.
I'm not completely sold on Max Payne 3. It seems like they've changed the noir style of the game. Sao Paulo, Brazil? Max's shaved head? IDK. We'll see. I'm sure it'll end up being a good game anyways.
I love how the cello gives the song such mystery and darkness at the same time. It makes it so hauntingly chilling to listen to. My brother was playing the game and as soon as I heard it, I had to stop and listen.

To everyone worried about Max Payne 3, I think the gameplay will be fine. It's Rockstar: their ratio of good games to shit games is pretty damn good. What I'm worried about is the story without Sam Lake.
