Marvellous! Stupendo! Bravíssimo. I love it. By the way of art and music I want to show you what Brazilians and Argentinians are doing with the accordion in folklore music. Really fantastic. If you want to see, please search for these 4 videos whose titles is:

Hey Scrambler390 - I enjoy this music a lot, but I have never got the hang of 'Cajun French. I'm from Thibodaux, mind you, but ... not actually of 'Cajun descent. And I took French in college, which still doesn't help me much with 'Cajun.
Anyway, I have a question for you: Where can I find the lyrics to this and other 'Cajun songs? If they are printed out in French, I might be able to catch the meaning. If in both French and English, all the better.
@RustyH117 You can find the lyrics to many Cajun songs printed in readable French in a book called "Cajun Music, A reflection of a People" . Also, Ye Yaille, Cher (more complete and extensive). Both have readable French language lyrics. Apparently, this forum will not permit the posting of links but if you seach for "Floyd's Record Shop, Ville Platte, Louisiana" and click the "Books" tab, you will find many interesting book titles. I will continue suggestions in the next post.
This is such an awesome video! Man could these guys play and Nathan had so much soul and power in his voice. I don't speak a word of French but boy do I understand Cajun music!
Hey, Scrambler390, Thanks for the video. I am a Frenchman and, of course, LOVE Cajun music. Wish evryone uderstand the lyrics (I only do partly, because of the accent).
Many Cajuns also have German ancestry also....at about the same time they were arriving in Louisiana, Germans were also arriving and settling along part of the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, which is now called the "German Coast". The town of "Des Allemands" (The Germans) is near there and so is Schexneider, a common germanic name down there. So you may not know it, but you may have Cajun blood since several French families also married into German families.
@gootenslog That's very true. I'm a Cajun from Lake Charles, but I remember we had some neighbors who lived a couple of doors down and the lady's maiden name was Schexneider, even though she spoke French regularly and was from Kaplan, LA.
@MrGata2121 . Thanks for asking. He's explaining that a negresse is a term like "sweetheart" that you use for your wife. He jokes that if you don't call her that maybe she'll think that you don't love her. If you have any other questions let me know. For us in Louisiana, Nathan is our greatest rock star. If you think of Elvis for rock and roll, you think of Nathan for Cajun music.
Ive got a picture of Nathan playing my Grandparents wedding reception at the old union hall in Eunice, La. My Grandfather worked with Nathan for the City of Basile, La. What a treasure to the Cajun Culture Nat was. Pine Grove Blues, stills packs the dance halls of Mamou. It is a shame the PC culture has made its way into LA, and many new Cajun Artist won't say "Ma Negresse". It was a term of endearment, that also means a "black woman". Louisiana Forever, Geaux Tigers.
Nobody...and i mean nobody "pulled(an accordian playing term)" Pine Grove Blues like Mr Nathan....my Paw paw loved this song and would play it over and over on his 8-track player
Je ne sais pas ce qu'il y a dans cette musique, mais ça me met en transe à chaque fois qu je l'écoute. Il faudra bien que j'aille mettre les pieds un jour sur cette terre sacrée qu'est la Louisiane.
hard times created people who could fix most things, were no nonsense with a great sense of humour, and more. it's a shame they won't be around forever.
Love this video, seeing the dead "alive again", so many gone now. Fred, Revon, Sadie, Nathan, Jack fontenot, Pascal, Preston, Bee/ED deshotel, and so many more I can't remember their names. WOW!
Someone asked what Nathan was saying at the end. He was explaining the meaning of "ma negresse" as a term of endearment for one's woman, wife, or sweetheart. This was also touched upon at the beginning of the clip by Revon Reed.
There is still today, something very special about the old cajun music. Drive Highway 13 through Eunice and Mamou and is still thrives. I am a Proud 30 year COONASS from Evageline Parish. At Mardi Gras every year you will see beautiful 20 year women along side 68 year old women dancing in the streets to Nathan Abshire, Ire Lejune, and DL Menard. It is in your blood. Cold beer and Boudan. Forever Louisiana.
the first time i heard pine groove blues was on a saturday morning 6-9 am in houston and pt was the dj-he took request and this was one of the best so i recorded it on tape from the radio--thats before you tube--great music--you do not have to be cajun to appreciate good music
Indeed, after posting my comment that Bee or Ed was in the video,I discovered you had a video of them also. You are the man ! By virtue of the fact that you've chosen to post these specific videos,it tell me a lot about yourself. You are one PEDIGREED Cajun that loves REAL CAJUN MUSIC ! lol
What a treasure and a treat. The guitar player looks to be Preston Manuel, and if I had to guess, the fiddle player is Sady Courville, though I cannot be sure.
Whoever had the foresight to film this in 1976, thank you. Almost like being there! No doubt Nathan and company would be surprised to look some 32 years in the future and see this video playing for all the world to see. Magnifique et bien bonne!
Good eye! On guitar is Preston Manuel, fiddle Sady Courville, triangle Savy Augustine and of course,Nathan on accordion. Also seen in the background (green jumpsuit) is Ed or Bee DesHotels, local Mamou musicians. They were identical twins.
I want to thank you on behalf of Nathans family. I was able to relay these videos to them. You are a true blessing to them. God Bless you & thank you.
Thank you very much. If this is from 197506, it is just the kind of KEUN Mamou Cajun Hour I used to hear on the radio when I first started listening in earnest to this kind of music. Yes, Nathan Abshire at Fred's Lounge with Sady Courville and Preston Manuel! Thanks so much for posting this!!! I love the ending with Nathan clowning around on the accordion. The audience is mesmerized and the cheers at the end tell the story. A treasure for sure!
I know I posted this video, but it still AWES me EVERYTIME I watch it.... it Mesmorizes me. He was SUCH an underrated musical artist. I wish I could have seen him in person or grasped the importance of his contribution to the cajun culture sooner than I did.
@SCRAMBLER390 It awes me to tears. this is such a treasure to watch, especially with my family from Evangeline and Allen Parishes. thank you very much for putting this out there. What a genuine article Abshire was, and fantastic shots of Fred's and Revon. Gives me chills watching this!!
The other song, at the beginning of the clip, is the tail-end of "Let's Go to Lafayette", which i can't spell in French, but thats what it means in English.
Video is from March of 1976. The whole video I have is MOSTLY the interview with Mr. Revon Reed. I am posting the musical acts but other than this one the clips are very short. Thanks.
