Actually, what Lou is trying to talk about is a "meta study", i.e. a "a study of all studies done on a particular subject". Unfortunately, Lou provides no evidence that there do not exist studies that reach the opposite conclusion.

Hundreds of "studies" have been published asserting the opposite. But the media never talks about studies proving there is no shortage and USA doesn't need these workers. That is why Dobbs is using his show to reveal the studies that prove we don't need them.

Studies aside, 10 years of guest workers have wrecked the U.S. economy and the only PROOF anyone needs is the state of the U.S. economy.

And yes, H1Bs get paid less. You know why? Because the visa does not allow their salary to be raised beyond 5% or promotions to be given during the work period. That is why it works out to be less. I have been watching this issue since 96'. With the exception of Lou Dobbs, other media outlets do not even make an attempt at estimating how many jobs have been lost. Bogus reports from the Gartner Group always get the media attention however they are pro outsourcing consultants.

I think that Lou Dobbs oversimplifies a great deal. Are there plenty of US tech workers out there? Certainly. Progammers are not interchangable though, and neither are engineers. Merely having the right degree doesn't make you qualified for any tech job.

I fully agree that the H-1B program has been abused. However, we can't say that having a surplus of tech workers means that there's no shortage. It's all about finding the RIGHT candidate for a job.

I'd argue that Lou Dobbs is the one who doesn't get specific. He's the one who says that there's no shortage -- but that argument assumes that programmers are interchangeable. They are not. Having the right degree doesn't automatically make you qualified, which is why we should not be quick to assume that all these corporations are lying.

That's why I say that he's OVERSIMPLIFYING. It's not that there's no truth to his claim. It's that he's adopting an overly simplistic analysis.

The point is that recent graduates cannot find work. The most prestigious universities like MIT are seeing dramatic reductions in their computer science programs.
