I know every single actor and actress in this pilot and what makes it all the better is it's in the Barkley Mansion....sigh...nothing could make it better(:
When Bette arrived at the mansion, she should have said, "What a dump!" And by the way, underneath all of that tacky decoration on the front porch you can see the pillared facade of the Barkley mansion set from "The Big Valley".
what a pro. i am sure this is not what bette envisaged herself reduced to but she gave her all as she did with everything she did. having said that compared to the sit coms of today that rely on crudity and sexual inuendo to get laughs , this is a masterpeice of good clean honest humour.
Now we know what happened to Margo Channing after she retired from the stage and her marriage to Bill Sampson broke up. Bette was overdoing it a bit here because the script wasn't very good.

I agree with some of the other posters in regards to the laugh track on this failed TV pilot to be incredibly awful. I can see why this pilot didn't sell. I don't think a "larger than life" actress like the late great Ms Davis would have fit well into a weekly TV series. She came across as way too strong for the most part on the small screen. Poor Bette must have been hard up for money when she consented to appearing in this poor excuse for a "comedy". But thanks for posting it.
These a little bit of the 'June Bride" story in this. This pilot's not great, but it certainly wasn't awful or worse than most of what does get on the air.
There are some pretty funny lines in this but man, that idiotic laugh track just kills it. Aaaargh! But regardless, thanks so much for posting this. =^)

This show reminded me of "The Beverly Hillbillies," "Green Acres," and "Petticoat Junction." Fun stuff.

I love the taxi ride from the airport to the house. The long shot being a 1957 Plymouth and the close up a 1965 Ford. Wonderful continuity.

@arktrucker
You're right and wrong. The Plymouth was a '56 and the Ford was a '64.

Does anyone else think Bette tried too hard to caricature herself in the 60's?

1:35 Bette Davis hasn't cackled that well since she served a rat to a wheelchair ridden Joan Crawford. What a long lost gem of a scene!

Ugh! That laugh track is awful! They put the laughs in where the lines aren't even funny!
I just adore Bette's laugh! A fantastic cackle! Thanks for this :)
