  • I am sensitive to corn products, can the corn startch be substituted with something else?

  • I just found this video. You guys are so cute and you make this look so easy. I may just do this now. Thanks so much for your time and wisdom. I have two teenage girls and hope they will like it the same as your daughter!

  • Just curious, since you and daughter dislike tea-tree oil so much have you ezxperimented with lavender oil? Its darn near just as potent as tea tree and it smells better. Also, you could easilly distill your own lavender oil since the flowers contain so much essential oils. Just some thoughts, thanks for sharing!

  • Awesome video. Gonna try this out!

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing.

  • this is nuckin futs!!! gotta try that !

  • thanks i like it !

  • You go girl! Tea tree oil stinks! PU! Sorry, man but it smells so bad!

Good idea! I'm soo trying it out.

  • So does that mean you can use the edible coconut oil for it in grocery store today but not sure if it will work could you please let me know...Thank you

  • I have tried this & found that shortening (i.e. Crisco) works better than the coconut oil (spreads easier & has a nicer texture). Either formula works better than the commercial deodorant!

  • Black In Public, Black Out Loud, and Black On Purpose! posted this video on their FB page. Just wanted to give credit.

& thank you for your many post that I will NOW!! be checking out!!

    *Good Stuff!!

  • can i leave out the tea tree oil?

  • I've just made some of this, though I melted the coconut oil first and didn't add essential oils. I've had so much trouble over the years with deodorants that either don't work or irritate my skin to the point of rash. My underarms are super sensitive so I'll be happy if this works for me. So far it seems just fine. Keeping it in the fridge as it's hot right now where I am. Cheers!

  • Thanks for sharing your video. Just want to give some info on the cornstarch. Unless it is organic, non GMO cornstarch it can be very harmful to the human body.

  • wouldn't it be easier to liquify the coconut oil first then mix them all together?

  • THANNNKKK YOUUUUU so much this is GREATTTTT JAH Bless

  • Hi, um if you use the baking soda wont it be grainy last time i tried it turned out grainy so i had to take it out :I

    any tips to prevent that?

  • This is wonderful! I've been trying to find an aluminum free deodorant FOREVER and they're so expensive and don't work. This is great! And so cheap. I make almost all my own skincare and ALL my own cleaning products, so this is great to have one more thing on the list of things that are safe, gentle, and save me loads of money. Thanks! :)

  • i made this and it works amazinnggg! it is the best deodorant i've ever used. it doesn't smell and doesn't leave all that residue on my clothes and i sweat less or not at all. weird but true!

    thank you. all the best

  • i wanted to know if the coconut oil ever leaves and oil stain on your daughters clothes

  • Love your channels and your wisdom! I would like to know where to purchase the different oils, ( tea tree, orange, almond, etc) I would like to buy the products that you are using. Thanks for sharing!

  • I just subscribed to you. You and your daughter are so sweet.

  • would it be easier to melt the oil and add everything into it, stir it, pour it into the container and then solidify it?

  • thank u for this vid! men's version: add sandalwood oil!!!!

  • tea tree (used in deoderants)oil is a a great antimicrobial agent (helps w/ the yukky bacteria , that causes odor) not sure if your a fan of pepermint or eucalyptus, but they work well w/ tea tree oil (odor masking). Also , there are some great receipes on youtube that uses shea butter instead of coconut oil- in case you'd like to try another natural butter - and arrowroot instead of corn starch

  • how do u keep it solid in the summer when the coconut oil melts in the heat?

  • @FrozyWozy Under your bathroom sink should work just fine :)

  • its my first time watching ur videos!

    you're so cute and amazing!

I should definately try this :)

  • I made this and it totally works! I am thrilled! this works so much better than crystal deodorant. I will never buy deodorant every again!

  • @missbeckAUS YAY! Its so simple and easy :)

  • Your nails are beautiful. Nice color too. I hate fake talons.

  • You should try arrowroot powder instead of cornstarch. Cornstarch has talc in it, which is not good for you.

  • @f8thnjc does it work with arrowroot powder?

  • @limewolf3 It does work with arrowroot powder. This is basically the same recipe that we use, except for the arrowroot powder.

  • We make this home made deodorant, however I heat up the coconut oil and put it in a zip lock bag with the dry ingredients, and then put it in a container after mixing it. I've found it doesn't crumble this way. I have not had a deodorant that works as good as this, and it doesn't contain aluminum as with most manufactured sticks.

  • does melting the coconut oil in the microwave before combining it with the other ingredients alright?

  • So glad i ran into your channel. I have a 7 yr old who is wearing deodorant already so I get the organic ones without the aluminum but this is so cool and also would save me a bundle because they are'nt cheap in the stores loll thanks a mil

  • Oh the oils that are linked to estrogen disease and growing large breast/nipples in boys are Tea Tree Oil, Rosemary Oil and Lavender. I bought all of these. Ugh.

  • Absolutely gonna favorite this video but I wanted to tell you that I just been reading bad things about tea tree oil. It is a phytoestrogen and they are responsible to estrogen diseases like breast cancer, fibroid tumors, endometriosis etc. I'm upset because I just got a 16 oz bottle of 3 essential oils today that I found out later tonight are the very thing I want to avoid. I saw your other recipe but like this better. I'll try with a different preservative though. Not sure which yet.

  • I have trouble with hair growing around my nipples. What do you do to address this problem?

  • I love natural deodorant...wouldn't ever go back to the commercial stuff! great video :)

  • Is 100% pure edible coconut oil the same as organic coconut oil? and if so can I use the edible grade kind? Im intrested in making... please help..

  • @curves25able Edible :) go to armpit candy dot com

  • @curves25able no. Edible coconut oil is food grade, but that does not make it organic. It surely is not organic if is says 100% pure edible coconut oil on the bottle. Organic coconut oil if not always, then most always virgin or extra virgin coconut oil from plants that are USDA organic, which means free of chemicals. Many chemicals are used on coconut plants as well as potentially dangerous fertilizers used in the soil of many non organic coconut producers. I suggest you go with the organic

  • @curves25able It is the same, but you want to make sure it says unrefined, because the refined had the vitamins removed and your body needs the vitamins.

  • Where is the best coconut oil to buy?

  • Thank you for this video. You have solved my problem with deodorant. I hate any the antiperspirants and deodorants in the stores, so I stay away from them as much as possible. This recipe makes sense to me. It's from natural ingredients.

  • is it okay to use olive oil or grape seed oil or combination of the 2 instead of coconut oil (if coconut oil is not available)?

  • wow i just made it!!

as I was packing it in, I felt soo good cuz the realisation came to me that I just made my own deodorant. thanks!

  • would it be ok if I use honey since you mentioned that it is a preservative instead of the tee tree oil?

  • LOL shalom sis, continue being productive, creative, and original. Keep it simple organic, real and natural. We must be more producers and less consumers then and only then we begin to see how we bein decieved into spending our money instead of investing money. we can make, grow and even plant for own children necessities for life

  • how long is the self life of the deodorant?

  • Hey, just fyi...this video describes (towards the end) why tea tree oil is not good to put in your armpits. Check it out. :)

  • That's great! And so easy! Thanks!

  • Smelling Tea Tree oil is like getting punched in the face or walking into a brick wall... gross everytime!

  • Omg...I love this video. Thank you and your daughter and you make a cute team.

  • Great video, I will deff. try it! does this work as an antipersperant? Please repond !

  • If you don't like the smell of tee tree oil, Rosemary oil smells great and it can also be used as a preservative.

  • Happy Belated Birthday to your daughter first of all! I know this video is a year old, but I assume she has one each year. :P I have watched a few of your videos now and I love them. I love how animated you are, its great. I wish you wouldn't downplay what you do though. The world needs more moms like you!

  • Thank you so much for sharing! I just made this with Texas Cedar oil and i now smell like a cedar forest!

  • Hmmm. This could be a problem in a Southern Summer. Maybe I could use during the winter. Anyone know something to substitute for coconut oil?

  • @redeemed2bfree I just made this and it did start to get pasty but when i put it on my arm pits the baking soda and corn starch counteracted the coconut oil. Though my armpits are at around 98 degrees, i dont notice any dripping or wetness. Storage may be tough, but there is always the fridge.

  • @redeemed2bfree I substituted the coconut oil with pure cocoa butter. It was in the high 80's Saturday and it did NOT melt. I hope that helps.

  • thank you for sharing!! I've been looking for a healthy alternative to store bought deodorant. I will definitely have to try this one out. :)

  • By the way, your daughter seems like a really sweet girl!

  • Thanks so much for this video. I've been looking for someone that actually shows how to do it rather then just showing some vague pictures.

I agree about the tea tree. It smell bad! It does work miracles on skin though.

    I'm subscribing!

  • Oh! I keep mine in my drawer under my sink or medicine cabinet and it stays cool. The trick is not to OD on the oil...

  • Hello

GIIIRRRL! Lol...i made this the other day and i am never going back to the so called strong enough for a man deodorant. When it wore off i was smellin' like a man. This stuff is AMAZING! I believe the store boughg makes u smell even worse no matter how much you shower!

Thank you and my sons thank you as well!

  • Great video and your energy is pleasant :o)

  • WHY did you smell the Tree oil!!lol You know it stinks!!!

  • how many time in the refrigerator?

  • its a very good video Thankss:)

  • I like this. Am I able to use the coconut oil that is not solid?

  • Great tips. I LOVE face naturals cream deodorants for sensitive skin. It's amazing and works better that anything I've used before.

  • I tried making you deodorant. mine seems to be a little soft. I placed it in the fridge over night and it's still soft. what did I do wrong?

  • coconut oil is not a solid above a certain temperature. Either way you have to refrigerate it

  • @busybuzzbuzz Yes it IS a solid above 76 degrees.

  • @busybuzzbuzz

That's strange because in the susmmer, usually, my coconut oil is all liquid but I don't have air conditioning.

  • I am unsure where to get the coconut oil from. I have seen different types and I am not sure which kind to get and from where. Same for the oils. Please advise.

  • @confused31 Your local health food store or GNC :) I prefer the food grade kind. They also have essential oils at the health food stores and GNC as well. Hope this helps. If not, ebay to the rescue...lol!

  • @SPARKWISDOM Thank you very much. But I am considering the shea butter because the coconut oil melts. So I have to keep it in the fridge. I have no clue what to do when I need to go on a trip.

  • @confused31 Grocery stores, health food stores, some herb shops.

  • I've read some reviews on other websites saying that they had to use it for 6-8 weeks before their body "adjusted" to it and it started working for them.

  • @dsrtflwr It worked immediately for us. Yet we use black soap and it kills the bacteria too. 6-8 weeks is not avg at all.

  • I made my own batch but I think I used to much coconut oil. Right now, my coconut oil has liquidated in the deodorant container, and its a mess when I try to apply it now. I think I will stick to one 1bsp next time, because I used 3. The deodorant is working though. Next time, I will try your armpit candy version, I think that will work better.

  • @kthename08 Depends on your climate too. When it is warmer, it's less firm. Cold in the home and its nearly hard. Trial and error Luv!

  • @SPARKWISDOM thank you

  • I love these videos. Thank you.. :)

  • @questionsleadtotruth My pleasure! Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks! I just made a batch. I used lemon and orange essential oils instead of tea tree oil. I'm sure it will work very well.

  • thank you..ready to make it..and great things to try out!!!!!

  • Great video! I am allergic to tea tree and oh gosh neem oil to.You can get all this at iherb.com and new customers can get $5 off any order with ongoing coupon code TAW742 (valid for one person per household)

  • I added Shea Butter, Jojoba oil and liquid almond soap.

  • @mrpower328 How did it turn out? I've been thinking of substituting the shea butter for the Coconut oil. Let me know please :)

  • where can you get coconut oil i been searching online and at my stores for it and i cant find it i'm dieing to try this recipe!!!

  • Thank you so much for this video sparkwisdom My husband and I are definatley trying this recipe out keep up the great videos :)

  • @hughesmommy I hope it worked!!! :)

  • @nikozombie89 you can get USDA certified organic coconut oil at GNC

  • @nikozombie89 tropicaltraditions . com has the best virgin coconut oil. Buy it by the gallon. I bought a 5 gallon bucket of the Gold Label for less than $250! It's so worth it! Occasionally they have sales and coupons. Subscribe to their newsletter and find them on Facebook! Eat it every day, put it all over your body after a shower, cook with it. Endless uses!

  • i agree i really HATE tea tree oil scent if you want try adding a bit of basil bergamot clary sage clove eucalyptus fennel lavender lemon pine needle rosemary Spanish sage tea tree thyme essential oils they all contain antiseptic properties :)
  • @nikozombie89 Check your local health food store. I could ship you some, yet it would be cheaper for you to get it there (the shipping) :)

  • Where can you get coconut oil??? PLEASE REPLY

  • @coolcatthecat Check your local health food store. I could ship you some, yet it would be cheaper for you to get it there (the shipping) :)

  • Thanks to this video I have been aluminum free for over a month now. It feels great and I LOVE IT!!! The one thing that I had to do to tweak the recipe was to add a tbsp of pure cocoa butter. Cocoa butter has a much higher melting point so the deodorant doesn't melt when it's not refrigerated. I have been on clinical strength deodorant for 2 years b/c I sweat easily but THIS recipe works just as good. Thank you so much for giving me an aluminum free option.

  • Thanks for this, my 7yo is at an age where she needs deodorant, and it is hard to find a deodorant that is an not an antiperspirant b/c she is a child, she doesn't sweat like that, so this is natural and safe and I know what is going in. Thank you.

  • I do not know you however I have to say from what I see in your videos. You are a wonderful woman and mother. Its refreshing to see parents that really care about there children . Peace

  • hi, is there a substitute for the coco oil?

  • @iceboxlabradors Yes ma'am, use cocoa butter. Are you allergic to coconut oil?

  • @SPARKWISDOM No ma'am, Im not allergic to Coconut oil. We have 10 trees of coconuts actually. But the smell sometimes really gets to you, and where im from you dont want to be smelling like a coconut all day.

The Cocoa butter is a little hard to find.....can i use cold cream instead?

Im quite excited to make this, and share it to everyone.

  • @iceboxlabradors LOL! Wow 10 trees of coconuts? That's fantastic! I don't know about cold cream...you could use baking soda (alone) or alcohol.

  • @SPARKWISDOM Hola! I just watched one that used shea butter instead of coconut oil if that helps at all

  • Thank you so much for this video, I have always wanted to learn how to make deodorant and how I can make some naturally without the chemicals! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

  • @AylaCale LOL! Did you do it?

  • @SPARKWISDOM Yes I did and I love it! :)

  • I used to use Aromacreme deodorant from Lush which was excellent but as this product as been discontinue I need to make my own now.

Can I use Cocoa butter instead of Coconut oil for this recipe?

  • @masschambers Sure, use it. I'm not certain how you'll keep it soft enough to go under your arms though. Also, not too much baking soda. Let me know how it goes. :)

  • Such a great video! Thank you. Thinking about the mixing process, would you be able to warm the coconut oil (maybe in a saucepan on a low heat) so that it becomes a bit more runny and easier to mix?

  • @ForViewingOnly Absolutely! Yet don't warm it too much because it melts at 76 degrees. May be too difficult to get it into the container also. Have fun!

  • Great Video, I will try this. It's natural and saves money!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • @raineylee That's right! Save that money for something else you want and natural is the best!

  • thankyou so much for sharing.

  • @Teashwood Thank you for watching :)

  • CAN I ADD GLYCERIN TO THIS RECIPE?

  • @SpyGirlx1 Sure, is there a specific reason why though? Glycerin is usually a gloss for hair and adds a shine in cosmetics. It's sticky too. Just add a little.

  • I just made this except in way smaller proportions (teaspoon of each) It wasn't very powdery so I added more of each, but to be honest it still seemed too creamy. It's like 100 degrees out here and our air isn't super great so I put it in the fridge... I put it an an old Burt's Bee jar (there was a powder clay mask in there). Should it be more powdery or creamy?

  • @EccentricPuzzle Creamy, it's probably just too hot where you are right now. You can always keep it in the fridge too.

  • u seem like a fun mom

  • @lucianno01 thanks, we have a fun time most of the time:)

  • Fantastic video, i also had that problem other deodorants itch, and i love this natural deoderant, thank u for sharing it with us...

  • @cocinademaria Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks for this recipe. I look forward to making this. I have a couple of questions: Since coconut oil liquifies at ~75 degrees. ...

    1. Do you keep your homemade deo stick in the fridge?

    2. Does the deodorant stick melt down in hot temperatures? I mean would you trust travelling somewhere hot with it in your bag?

I love coconut oil. I actually use it alone as my all over moisturizer or mixed with shea ... it's so easily absorbed. So many benefits for the hair & skin!

  • @kdw4jc Yes, keep it in the fridge. When traveling put it in a baggie or it will melt! Thanks for watching. I put it on my skin every night :)

  • Have u tried softening the coconut oil in the microwave or a double boiler first before mixing? It makes it easier to work with, then just pop the container(s) in the fridge for a couple hours, and they will be smoother and completely solid for you and the other ladies of the house :) And if you are looking for a really healthful tea, try a Hibiscus tea, it controls cholesterol and blood pressure, it changes color on you so don't be suprised when it goes from deep purple to burgandy when u stir

  • @Oreocremerocks I'm going to try the tea! Thanks for the tip-you rock!

  • @SPARKWISDOM you are very welcome, I get my tea from Darlene's Tea Port ( name of her Ebay store) her Ebay name is theteaport, or directly from her website Chelmsfordtea(dot)com. Her prices are reasonable (especially on Ebay when she post the tea as an auction), her selection is phenominal, and free shipping on orders over $50. Her teas are always fresh and flavorful. My husband dosen't usually like tea, he loves several of the blends she offers.

  • Thank you for this! I have been desperate for a decent deodorant. I have extremely sensitive and allergic skin, so I am very picky about what goes on it, especially on the delicate areas like face and underarms. I kept getting rashes or worse from natural brands. I tried this, and it's great! I am a sweater, and this helps with that (although sweating is GOOD for you!) and it stays fresh all day. Very simple, very easy, although I recommend softening the coconut oil a bit so it's easier to mix.

  • @webbergail4 YEA!!!! I like it too and I do perspire, yet I don't mind. It IS good for you. LOL!

  • i hate tea tree oil smells soo bad u can use vitamin e oil as a preservative like me if u hate tea tree oil

  • @shelties100998 Me too! Thanks for the tip on Vitamin E!!!! I'll be researching this and making a new video. You rock!

  • i can't wait to try this.....does it work for excessive sweating?

  • @akiss84 I'd suggest adding a few drops of Dr. Bronners Peppermint Oil. My teen and tween wear it and I have not noticed that they have had excessive perspiring. My youngest used too.

  • what about lavender instead of the tea tree? would that work?

  • @WitchesHallow No, you need a preservative for the mix or it will mold.

  • I guess I can go ahead and post the reasons we should not use tea tree or lavender essential oils for our natural deodorants. The two aforementioned essential oils MAY cause estrogen positive breast cancer. Try lemongrass or bergamont instead. Resrarch the eseentials FIRST before using...happy creating!

  • FYI: You should NOT use TEA TREE OR LAVENDER oil under your arms. Research the properties essential oils FIRST. Great video!

  • I am going to try this. I also saw in Target yesterday they have the deodorant containers for $1 in the travel section.

  • Your daughter is going to be 12? She looks mature for her age

  • ok i made mine tonight and it came right on time because i used the last of the store bout one lol. But it is in the fridge going to try it out in the AM thanks again for the tut

  • @Marhia07 I hope you like it!!! It works so good!

  • Thanks for this Video I'm going to try this probably next week.

  • can i use shortening instead

  • Most Cornstarch about 83% quoted from Wikipedia is GMO or Genetically modified along with most Soy, Canola oil and other corn products. Many people in health world believe it can severely impact health and possibly even change the human genome. The skin especially the underarms absorb everything directly into the bloodstream . Organic Cornstarch is about $2.00 .

  • that is so cool, Will have to get the supplies and put away for our Economic Tough times ahead !

  • I found this same recipe online and I noticed it was really dry and powdery too...what i did was put it in a pot or microwave to let the coconut oil melt a little to make it creamy. This mad it easier to mix and easier to put in the container! it worked great!

  • happy late birthday! mine is the 15th too

  • I cant wait to try your natural homemade deodorant- I have tried many and none really work to stop my sweating but now Im going to try this for myself and my son.

  • This is such a wonderful idea! I actually made some of it yesterday, and it turned out great. I think I may have added a little too much coconut oil (I don't like to measure- I eyeball ingredients, Lol) and so it was a little unspreadable. But i've found that taking my finger and rubbing a bit on each day does the trick! I don't smell at all, and this is very cost friendly and good for the environment!

  • @mikithefrog Yea! I'm glad it worked! Yea!

  • Your a gem, your kids use it, but men are different...what does your husband say?

  • My soon to be :) doesn't even need to use deodorant! Can you believe it? He may use deodorant once in a blue moon...and he's not musky!

  • @faavor My soon to be :) doesn't even need to use deodorant! Can you believe it? He may use deodorant once in a blue moon...and he's not musky!
